Unfortunately it is a slum. And as a society we have to remove those slums or make them habitual for a normal living human being. I've visited dharavi multiple times and even if the people living there dont realise it, their living conditions are like rats.
But our politicians have made dharavi a vote bank. They won't let you develop it and as long as guys like you are protective over things like- "Oh dont call it a slum dont mock it!" These politicians are counting money in their bunglows
some of the richest people are from those slums okay

Imagine Indians just walking straight into an American house with another American stranger without any permission and then say that he was just interested in how they live. That Indian person would probably be shot as a trespasser.
I personally won't like if any foreigner would come uninvited in my home. Dharavi is not some endangered ethnic tribe that has different customs or traditions that people should be interested in them. They live like how most Indians live, it's just a bit cramped. Calling it 'Slum tourism' is insulting.
So they basically find or say feel pleasure by seeing other people suffering... that's the only thing come to my mind when I hear slum tourism...or why else any sane people go to another country stay in a below average hotel ( not even average) then complain lack of amenities ( I mean what do you expect, you get what you pay for) then they will go to the shadiest part of the city ( which even the locals will hesitate to visit) travel on tuk tuk and they will act as if india do not have metro or uber or ola ( also they will complain how the tuk tuk wala "scammed" them !!!) , Eat questionable streets food ( which even we will think twice about ) and then will complain about stomach problems etc .....to travel all around the world ( that too a country rich in architectur and culture) then focusing on slums and how people live there and that will make them ( foreigners) feel good about them is just pure evil .. remind of Roman terresa.

Sorry for you misunderstanding but sir I'm from dharavi and I have toured over 45-50 tourist from all over the world and they all had such a great experience. I think the guy who toured you dharavi was not able to show you the beauty of dharavi and The Humble and Kind people,they all just see you as a guest may be you have met some bad guy who made your experience bad,but that doesn't means that dharavi is not a place to visit, People are poor from money but not from Heart my brother! BTW was not expecting giggles from ranveer after hearing slum tourism he would have just stand for us and supported us.
I'm coming with a friend from south korea. We landed in delhi and booked a hotel there.
Next day my friend I ask him to go india gate. But he want to go old delhi, chor bajar. Where poor people live. He said to me that good places never give us views.

Do you know how much money the Dharavi slum people make? They are hardworking people. 85% of people have a job in the slum and work locally, and some of them even became millionaires. They are in pretty good condition than many poor of developed countries.

Ya Dharavi is the favourite tourism place for foreigners not Tajmahal, Goa , Jaipur , Himachal, Delhi.

Dharavi people don't earn anything. Sites like Trip Advisor earn money. There is a legit Slum Tour that you can book on the website for 2000. People living in Dharavi may act as max to max a tour guide or show them around for some money. Also, Dharavi is not as poor as these people think. Their standard of living is surely low but they are not dirt poor. Also, so much manufacturing revenue comes from Dharavi. They need rehabilitation.

What a life i had i stayed in Dharavi for 6 months i got opportunity to see life so closely with these great people. They are so good and helping..while i worked there every night i had a food plate given by neighbour to me as i was bachelor.they have pure love hate agony kind everything is 100% so it's imp what you want to attract for yourself in Dharavi

Slum tourism.. is popular. Even though it's terrible for people living it, mostly westerners from developed countries visit just because things will be affordable plus main reason when they go back they will be more thankful for what they have in developed countries. It gives them new perspective. It's for the same reason people join survival games, because when you have to save each drop water you know it's value similarly when food is scarce, you waste less. That's just my opinion 🙏🇮🇳
It's not slum tourism it's slum terrorism
Please also show the positive side of slums too. A big industry that flourishes too.
