    This almost happened to me while I was working at a grocery store checking. A girl in her mid 20s approached my checkout line as I was finishing up the customer in front of her. She left the line to grab an item that she forgot, while leaving her her purse in the cart unattended. She came back a minute later and immediately checks her purse and looks at me hesitantly and asked me “where’s my phone?” I responded with a “like really stare,” shrugging my shoulders, idk. She began to get flustered asking me a again a few more times while looking around. She either believed that I took it, or felt that I was responsible to keep watch on her property. “I told her I don’t know, but if you aren’t ready to check out I need you to step aside so I can keep my line moving.” She left the store to her car and came back 5 minutes later, and tried apologizing. The only other words I spoke to her after that was “your total is $187.35” after ringing up her items.
    It’s sad, but when ever these situations occur I don’t even flair up and get defensive, I just nonchalantly state the facts and let shit play out. Although it is frustrating when you’ll always be looked at a certain way because your skin color.

      I've also had to do this as a cashier at a kroger affiliate. She was screaming at me for probably a solid five minutes, only to be gone for less than 3 before getting back in my line. I was helping the same person when she came back in and HE asked if she found her phone yet, she was eyeing the great buff job on the floors after that 😂I didnt get an apology, but that interaction had me busting up laughing when my line was gone lol

    The number of times I've "lost" my phone while out in public and I've never thought anyone took it is too high to remember... my first thought is where in my bag did that phone go.... everyone knows handbags have black holes that hide everything and anything at any moment.
    I've searched my bag for things and not found them until I've emptied everything!
    And it is racism as she accused the man and not the woman.... I use to think racism didn't exist as much as it does until I hired a Filipino support worker and I've seen it happen to her before my own eyes.... when you are genuinely not racist you can't imagine other people being racist but once you see it you can't un-see it.

    • @Pebbles803
      @Pebbles803 Před 2 lety +1

      So you don't think it's possible she did look and overlooked it.. I know most people have done that before as well.
      She thinks her phone is gone. She thinks maybe that the guy was standing close enough that he could of taken it, she gets embarrassed when she finds it and doesn't know what to do.. the brain makes people do weird things in stressful situations that aren't always rational so she probably did stall after realizing her mistake to prepare herself for the humiliation/guilt of it especially if she know's she's being recorded. I know this because it's happened to me before.
      and your last statement works in the same way as a double ended sword.. once you have seen real racism you see it everywhere even when it's not there.

      You a damn fool. 'Satisfaction' means nothing when your pocket is empty. You shoulda taken their "mistake" all the way to the bank, but you'd rather have the SATISFACTION of having taken the 'high road', right?! Why do you need THEM to believe that you are a moral and upright man??? Aren't THEY the same people who falsely accused you??? Something is wrong you, brother. Don't you see that they NEVER EVER learn from these things??? The behavior continues on with some other brother who they happen across. Haven't you realized yet that all that 'take the high road' bullshit is a damn con?! They don't actually believe that themselves. They invented that for US! So we'd learn to take the shit they dish out and not make trouble.
      The only way they learn is when you hit them where it hurts....THAT POCKETBOOK. And seeing as how the wealth gap has increased drastically during the pandemic, our community should be considering all methods of closing that gap. I was confused because the sensor didn’t go off. I walked back and handed him the receipt of what I just bought. He was looking at it while checking EVERY single item I had just purchased. After he saw that everything was in order he actually seemed frustrated that I didn’t do anything wrong. He proceeded to ask me to empty my pockets! I went from calm to FURIOUS! I start going off at the guy and my parents came out of nowhere because they were waiting for me and were wondering why I was taking so long. As soon as my white Step Dad started going off at this guy, the security panicked and started apologising desperately and making the excuse they had a lot of theft recently. I don't think she a racist, she just fucked up. I think she seems genuine that she thinks the dude took her phone just based on how insistent she was.. and they started filming to garner attention online to shame her because they felt it was racial which is unfortunate. But maybe it was i wasn't there so i don't know but she seems believable to me. I know because i've been there. When they don't act guilty because they didn't take it she realizes that they could be telling the truth and then she starts to doubt and go into a social shock and then the embarrassment and guilt comes because it was in her bag the whole time. I work in IT, and in my last job, I worked at a college doing support etc. Our man office was on the 1st floor of the main building, but I also had a satellite desk on the 2nd floor where the staff worked (so they could come to me with issues). I would often go between that desk and the main office throughout the day. We had a dress code of sorts (a branded polo shirt), but it was fairly relaxed, especially out of term time, as it was at the time, and as such, I was wearing a hoodie that day. This is an important detail.
    Anyway, on this particular day, I was on my way to the main office from upstairs and needed to pass through one of the many secure doors in the building. Typically you’d swipe your card to get through, something I had to do many times every single day, even just to get in the building.
    I approached the security door next to my main office and noticed another staff member who is never seen before going through. As he did so, he let some students through and was about to let me pass until he realised he was looking at a black guy wearing a hoodie, at which point he got confrontational and asked to see my ID. I told him I was also a member of staff but he insisted. I then told him that as his equal, I didn’t have to prove myself to him. I’d also been working at this place about 8yrs at this point and had never seen this guy before which meant he was a new member of staff. I pointed that out but he wouldn’t drop it so I just walked past him, only for him to literally follow me into my office demanding I show him ID at the top of his voice. It’s only when my boss approached, wondering what the commotion was and said “This is a joke, right?” did this guy realise his error and, in turn how stupid he looked.
    Now if this was his perception of a fellow staff member, imagine how he views his black students.

    I remember being in college and my roommate and I went to a dollar store to get some supplies. As soon as we stepped in, I was told to take my bag off and leave it with the clerk, before I protested - my roommate (he's a few years older than me) - told me to just give them the bag. So I did. As they were pressed about us, out the corner of my eye I saw a white couple stuffing their bags with things, obviously stealing in plain sight, and then walking out - setting off the alarms. Guess who they decided to accuse of stealing despite JUST walking in the store?

He was literally the manager who was handling the return & he asked the white lower level of staff to go get the item off the shelf so he could scan the code. It took me ages to realize what was going on, as his responses were so ludicrous. I think A- the tosser customer assumed the white guy would be the manager not the black guy, then had a problem adjusting to reality. B- as you say all logic went out the window & he wanted to be able to make the black staff member the bad guy somehow, even if he was doing his job perfectly normally. My friend said the customer was probably embarassed but that doesn't give him an excuse to embarrass other people, make accusations or generally act like an entitled, bully.

The second I started to say "Ok I can't take off the whole tax myself, I just need a manager to do the rest" he absolutely exploded and called me a racist. She essentially waited days in a freezing cold hospital and being given cold food just to be told she needed to go home and drink Gatorade. They hardly gave her any IV fluids, they just put her in a room and left, but they wouldn't let her leave. My dad was pissed. All of that b.s. for $10,000. Good thing they have good insurance.
