REAL Interview Questions I asked - When Hiring a Clinical Research Assistant [Hospital Trial Asst]

  • A few months ago, I was tasked with the hiring of a clinical research assistant to join our team working on a pharma-sponsored trial at a hospital site. I worked with a research associate to develop the job posting, screen the resumes and conduct the 1st interview independently before recommending my top 3 candidates to the principal investigator for a second interview.
    In this video, I have shared the process of resume screening we use with tips of what to do and what not to do when applying. I have also shared all the questions I asked during this preliminary interview and explained what key elements I was looking for in the answers I received. I hope this helps you to prepare for your first interview or to prepare to hire your first candidate.
    Below is the link to the video where I shared the questions I received when I
    applied for this research / trial coordinator position:

    Happy holidays! Maybe I missed it? Is it possible to do a video about your new life in Ottawa please? What are some of your favourites places? Things to do? Or avoid! How to make friends. Moving there shortly and would love any tips. xx

    I was wondering what kinds of questions you would recommend asking as an interviewee applying for clinical research assistant roles or what kinds of questions you thought interviewees asked were good. Thank you!

      That's an excellent question. Theres a few type of questions to ask, some that demonstrate your interest, others that will help u decide if u really want to do this job or not, and a few just to show u have done ur homework. I think i'll make a video on this next week and post on the channel :)

    Great video! How would you answer the question about having experience with data entry/collection, processing blood/bio samples, or ethics renewals if you don’t have any experience with those things but are more than willing to learn?

    • @thebrownfeministcanada
      @thebrownfeministcanada  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Hi there. One potential answer would be : "While I haven't had the chance to do data entry for clinical studies, I have had other roles in retail, client service, cashier roles, admin assistant or clinic assistant roles etc where I have had to learn new client relation databases (CRMs) very quickly and meticulously collected and entered data in a timely manner, responded to any queries or errors etc.
      I have a good concept of how research ethics works at the institutional level but haven't personally submitted a full ethics application for a trial yet, although I am happy to learn on the go. I did do a crash course on it and am familiar with the processes of applying for initial REB application, continuing reviews, amendments etc. I am sure each institution's REB portal is a little bit different but I am confident I can pick it up fairly quickly.

    Would they train you to do blood draws if you have other experience but no actual experience with specimens?

    • @thebrownfeministcanada
      @thebrownfeministcanada  Před rokem

      Some places can. Others prefer hiring someone who already has that experience or certification in phlebotomy. That is why nursing background people do so well in these roles.

    Within how many days,we get reply either yes or no after 1 st interview with HR?
    And if i send one follow up email after 5 days of interview, how long will be the process in general?

    • @thebrownfeministcanada
      @thebrownfeministcanada  Před 2 měsíci

      Typically the preliminary interview should let you know within 5-7 business days. But you can also ask that during your call about when to expect to hear back from then.
