  • Hello Skaters! Welcome back! Today is an exciting day because we are learning footwork for our 3rd annual Christmas Program! Last week I taught a more simple footwork sequence and this week I am teaching a challenging one. You are welcome to learn either sequence, or smush them together or simplify them, to suit your skating abilities. Work on making these smooth so that next month when we learn the rest of the Christmas Choreography we can just pop this footwork sequence in.

Been waiting for the notification to show up 😊
I spent the weekend with the family for my daughter’s very first competition! 🎉
It was a few hours’ drive out of town, (actually, it’s the very rink Yuna Kim skated at during her days) with competition time in the morning, so had to stay at a hotel…making it some sort of a “skating trip.”
The competition was “everyone wins,” giving out gold/silver/bronze medals per group, where the groups are 3 ppl max. My kid got bronze 😂 But regardless of the results, I must say it was one of the happiest weekends I spent in a while.
So here’s a big thank you to you who have made the journey so much fun. ❤
Now, I go to watch the advanced footwork…though I should stick to the easier version. Just in case…

I am glad you and your daughter had a good experience at the competition this past weekend!

Thank you so much! I've been looking forwards for this version! Definitely very challenging for me but I'll try my best!
A question though: after backwards cross steps - is it a RFI bracket or a 3-turn? Because I keep rewatching and I see a 3-turn...
    Thank you in advance!

Hey! Thanks for the question. It is indeed a three-turn! Good eye. By the time I filmed this I had already filmed the beginner one just before and my Rights/Lefts, Insides/Outsides, brackets/three turns, courters and rockers were getting jumbled in my mouth as I said them. Just after that there is a bracket though.

Thank you for sharing. I am not sure if it is the camera angle but the 1st and 2nd brackets in your sequence appear to be 3 turns. Please can you clarify?

Good eye! After the back cross steps I called two brackets, but... the first one is indeed a three turn, the second is a bracket. I was getting so jumbled at that point having already filmed the beginner one just before. My apologies.

That back inside edge 3 turn is tough! I can only do it on my right skate.

The back inside 3s are the toughest 3s. Keep working at it!

I get counters and rockers mixed up too.

Speaking a footwork sequence is like a tongue twister. I always mess something up! 😆

Hi.I have a question. Before starting jump lessons, what does a coach expect from an athlete? which movements ,skills? for example backward crossover? and you can say "yes you are ready to start to learn jumps" thanks
