You can light a flare instantly on PS5, just hold the touchpad button and press R1. Not sure about xbox.
For Xbox it is Select and RB.
There are combinations for flares And weapons. So you don't need a menu.

Am at the place in minute 30. I managed to go there at the same beginning of this level, from the other side. Water is not that high like on this film, ald the doors in the water are closed. Guess that is the first time in my playing in tomb raider where i reached point of no return.

What was the point of that Cathedral key at the end?
Good question. It was probably placed there to use in All Hallows level, but because that level was removed, they didn't replace that key by another collectible. Just guessing. Still, we need to get it in order to grab all secrets and unlock the bonus level All Hallows.

Some of these secrets and pickups are absolute jokes. There are literally NO clues that those areas are accessible, or even that there’s anything there.
Totally... 90s games were really hard. Now, if we play an Ubisoft game, everything is marked on map, even "secrets".
