  • CBD is so hot right now. The compound is being added to everything from gummies to lattes, attached to claims about how it can improve health in any number of ways. But what do we really know about the validity of those claims? And what are we actually getting in consumer CBD products?

I've _assumed_ that the CBD I take for my panic disorder is a placebo. Placebos are awesome. Regardless, in my case it took me from nightly panic attacks that would last between 30 minutes and _all night_ in length; down to maybe one a month at bed time. And it reduced daytime panic attacks as well, though not as dramatically. This was probably life saving for me.
And safer than other solutions. Before CBD I was on an antidepressant - which worked ok but was unpleasant for a host of reasons, and before that Xanax, which worked but isn't good to be on long term. CBD has worked better by far than both of those. I don't know why, I don't care why. I might not be here today without it.

Really? Most people find 30mg is fine for a dose against anxiety, actually vaping is a quicker way to deliver it into the system for panic attacks, otherwise 3 x 10mg gummies twice a day is sufficient, or an hour or more before going to bed for a good quality of sleep i.e. uninterrupted sleep meaning you feel refreshed when you wake up.
As to inflammation, I was surprised to hear from a customer who came to buy a bottle of 40% oil from our shop that she'd been finding relief with only 4 drops of a 20% oil (approx 40mg per dose) 3 times a day for rheumatoid arthritis with actual nodules on her hands.
Thanks for the heads up on reishi and Ashwaganda, I am still learning about the effects of these.

As a cannabis patient (for the treatment of ADHD, SPD [Sensory Processing Disorder], C-PTSD, ASD [Autism Spectrum Disorder] ) I found that CBD, when smoked, did absolutely nothing; the problem being that CBD doesn't affect your central nervous system nearly as much as THC. For example, THC helps to alleviate an overload of sensory perceptions as the problem lies in my brain and nervous system being too sensitive to external stimuli; imagine the dry, overheated roots of a tree suddenly receiving a wealth of rainwater an' soaks it up like a sponge for some cool relief - CBD, however... just splashes the tree trunk with a bucket

I have most/if not all of what you said. I love your analogy on THC, very relatable. I have been curious of the effects of CBD for day use/work. Do you have thoughts on being functional with the combined use, with a lower dose of THC? I absolutely love how my brain functions on THC, I get a sense of normalcy in focus, creativity, mood (likely better serotonin delivery) and therefore emotional regulation, and overall intelligence. Plus a huge confidence boost. My concern on using it for work is my slight lack of physical control; essentially the high. I’d run the risk of no filter too. This is on a micro dose of 10mg edible.
Would love to hear your thoughts, if any, on it. Feel free to share your experiences, even if it varies!

@@chantellelacey I recommend sticking with more pine scented strains that focus on pain relief, depression/PTSD relief (Indica dominant hybrid strains are lovely). Meditative exercises are a must (yoga and strength training help a bunch; "To train the mind to its potential you have to train the body." -FMA). The worth of 1 joint @ 20-23% THC per day fits my personal needs, yours may vary; I dose myself in the same manner as one would use an inhaler (as needed) - the joint is usually worth about 6 doses. Take the time to measure how far the effects go, how long they last, how long you're able to go between tokes/doses. I notice after about 3, sometimes 4 hours, depending on the environment and how active it is, my body starts to tense up with sensory overload and you definitely see my fuse burn Real short Real fast, and yes, it hurts. Eating it is another matter that, while I do prefer overall, is a might tricky as your liver can amplify the effects due to the chemical reactivity. Currently testing dosing levels using flowers boiled in olive oil as part of a pumpkin seed oil dipping sauce for bread and such. Method works well... maybe too well. Still testing.

Everyone is different! People just have to try it, experiment with dose amounts in small amounts and work your way up if needed. I am super sensitive, so there is no possible way I would ever need to take 300 mG of CBD! To put this into perspective, if I take one Advil, I can feel the effects for at least 48 hours!!! I do not need to keep taking it every six hours or so. I am hypersensitive to medication!

Awhile ago I saw a paper (an actual published study, not a random website) that said something about how THC can increase the effects of CBD, but I don't remember the details, and I don't think that particular study tested different doses of THC to find an optimal amount, either. But even if that's true, it would just mean an isolated CBD + THC combo-drug would be most effective, it wouldn't imply "unprocessed weed products" are better. Weed has TONS of other chemicals in it, many of which are biologically active, and most of which are usually not controlled for dosage, so smoking weed will never be the better way to get the benefits of specific compounds within it. But people who like their "unprocessed weed products" will argue until they're blue in the face because to them, they like getting high and therefore convince themselves their subjective anecdotes beat actual scientific investigation, so it's kind of a moot point.
(Case in point: there's a Facebook group / website called I Fucking Love Science, whose followers are ostensibly science-minded folk who, well, love science. And most of the time, they do. But whenever they post an article outlining studies which find potential negative effects from marijuana, all of a sudden the comments are flooded with people rejecting the science in favor of their own experiences. 🤷‍♂️)

@@wmdkitty they specifically asked "the differences between strains" which is such a broad sentance it doesnt even make sense. The strain is determined by what the terps are contained in the sample. If you ignore the terps you're ignoring everything that makes up the sample, THC and CBD are very different things and are also dependent on what terps are in the sample.
Maybe people dont care to get that in depth but it has completely turned my life around in a good way since I got my med card, knowing which terps do what is essential to finding a strain that helps with whatever condition the user has. That's why there have been studies conducted and there are more being done right now, for medical conditions

CBD is psychoactive in the brain! There are CB1 and CB2 receptors that CBD binds to, and that is what makes it psychoactive. However; while CBD is psychoactive, it is not intoxicating or hallucinogenic. Far too many people get this wrong, likely because otherwise informative videos like this one provide incorrect information.

I disagree on your take on not being against a placebo that makes you feel better. On of the reasons that cognitive behavioral therapy is effective is because it challenges the patient to actively process their symptoms and restructure them into something more positive. It is well established at this point that anxiety and depression can significantly amplify physical symptoms like pain. For example, most people have a memory of an food that made them sick and the thought of it brings back feelings of nausea. Then on the extreme side of the spectrum you have conversion disorder, where people can manifest extreme levels of disability from stress and depression. Placebo treatments externalize a persons focus and makes that “thing” the solution to their condition. Belief in that placebo can in the short term give temporary relief from physical symptoms. The thing is, placebos lose their effective over time and now that person has even more feelings of anxiety about their symptoms coming back and they can even get worse. Then the hunt for a new placebo begins and a cycle of dependency is created. We need to take the emphasis off placebo and instead focus on improving mental health, either through psychotherapy or a combination of that and physical therapy for chronic pain.

CBD is more useful in the seizure side of things! If you can get a 7 or 10:1 ratio of CBD to THC (delta 9) & take in low doses - 5 to 10 drops 3 times a day it helps anxiety much better! But also stoping coffee could be nearly just as effective! With any serious mental problems always see your doctor first.
