If you live with Bipolar Disorder like I do, you're probably familiar with the typical signs of depression... things like feeling hopeless, losing interest in doing things, crying, isolating, fatigue, low mood, trouble concentrating, worrying, fear... We're all familiar with these right?
Today I'd like to explore some “other” signs of depression. The unexpected ones. Symptoms which are often misinterpreted as someone being in a bad mood or having some kind of personality flaw. I think this video will help us - and our loved ones - to have a greater understanding of these symptoms - should they manifest.

WHERE ARE YOU GUYS FROM? I'm in California =)

You look great Rob ,Slay 🙌👍
You know how hard it is to stay on a weight loss routine with Bipolar and BPD. Pray for me. I'm 60 and need to get 90 lbs off for my health. Had VSG 9 years ago, still weigh 222, way to much for 5'3"
One day, I was completely overweight. 260 5’8 tall, depressed and had stayed home for 2 years not taking to anyone. I remember going for a run one day, and thinking “why tf am I even doing this pointless shit?” Then it dawned on me. When you have bpd, even the things you enjoy are pointless. There’s no reason to think about it anymore. Do things “because” they’re pointless, I started running 1 mile, then 3, then I’d do 3 more, then went on to doing marathons. Running turns off my brain, and hurts me. Both things I want for myself when I’m depressed. Go run your ass off, I promise it won’t be for nothing
I am so thankful for these videos. I was diagnosed late in life at 38, although I've had symptoms all my life. I don't feel so alone anymore 🥰
Hello I’m from Louisiana. I have read several of Julie’s articles. They have really helped.
I too was diagnosed late in life, you never know what will happen, so it’s good that you reach out to God sources and this is definitely a good one! Welcome! You’re never alone.
I’m 38 and am wondering.
I've definitely had it all my life too but wrongly diagnosed with depression and anxiety. 2 weeks ago my psychiatrist of 12 years, told me I actually have type 2 bipolar 😪
I’m 38 now and I was diagnosed 3 years ago. It ruined my life and still really suffer even when medicated. I have rapid cycling. Iv been in low mood now for what feels like months.
I could remember several years ago I was diagnosed with BPD. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my mom recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.
I've been looking to try shrooms for depression, just very difficult to get a
reliable source here in Canada. Really need!
Have you tried psilocybin while being on meds? Or you didnt take meds? Thank you for answer
This is posted just about word for word on soon many mental health videos. Seems very spammy.

I‘m from Munich, Germany. And I wish more than anything that my bipolar husband was still alive and we could put all your precious information into practice. I appreciate your work very, very much.
What happened to him? If I may ask
@@cinnyboy2943 Welp since im in the same shht with bipolar disorder, my bet will be, he did prob kill himself... Sometimes the downs in this god damn disorder, are so down, u feel like, u just want to end yourself, and be done with all this shht...
Hi Rob! I’m in Florida. Thanks for all you do. Helps knowing I’m not alone in this brutal disease.
Yes!!! It’s such an encouragement to know we are not alone !
Can i ask one thing? Do people with bipolar disorder know they are mentally ill?
@@AlJihAdIGuY They know when they are severely depressed and unable to be well in their lives. These people have often lived with the critical judgements of family members, friends and employers for decades. Many have learned to believe that they are - for example, reckless, thoughtless, uncaring, irresponsible, chaotic personalities - long before any consultation with a doctor or psychiatrist, and accurate diagnosis. /Just as your own physical and mental state can fluctuate across your life - so it does the same for a person living with BP. But - the fluctuations and triggers may be more extreme for them, and more challenging to manage. /When you look at historical records, all the 'varieties' of human being can be located. BP is but one of these versions. These people are represented amongst the talented, heroic, inventive and famous names - just as much as any other.
@@comealongcomealong4480 thanks for telling but can bipolar disorder cure
@@juliekooiker3408 it really is, im 16 and was diagnosed a couple months ago after a hospitalization. im too sad for most of my peers so its good to know its not just me =)
Hello Rob! I'm from Brunei but I'm currently living in Japan. For most of my life I was misdiagnosed with clinical depression but when I moved to Japan, that was when I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and it makes A LOT of sense.😺
The infamous “clinical depression”… hate those words. 5 years wasted trying to treat that what I did not have and making worse the unbalance of my bipolar disorder. During those years I destroyed my finances, made some very time and energy consuming engagement towards people I do not want to disappoint which ruins my self daily and most of all I thoroughly destroyed my mariage with the love of my life. By the time I was medicated and realized all that it was 2 years later and there was no way back.
Misdiagnosis is one of the worst things about this disease.
We are many here I think I have bipolar disorder. I have seizures , headache that comes and go , sadness and anger, anxiety as well. Not feeling my environment as I used to before. Joy and happiness is gone now. Only when I gamble and make money I feel a little happy or maybe when I play snooker and win then later I’m back to square one. 🤦♂️ God save me 🤲. Pull me out of this miry clay. I can’t even sleep.

Lately I have been feeling like a burden towards everyone around me. It’s really hard to manage this diagnosis while on bed rest for 3 months.. I hurts when I seek for help or express myself, I get judge on the diagnosis. It brings me so down that I feel worthless at times. I can’t stress this enough the people you’re surrounded with can either make it worse or help you for better. I thank you for this video. We are not alone! I hope we manage it so well we forget we ever had it, so we can become to best version for ourselves ❤

We're from Lebanon! Me and my girlfriend love your videos and it helps her navigate bipolar and helps me to know how to deal with it as well. Thank you!
Hi from Türkiye. I was diagnosed with major depression and over 10 years I got medication and therapy but it didn’t helped me. Also when I felt great I cut the meds and therapy and I got worse every year. Finally I met my current doctor and she suggested that I might have bd because of my some behaviours that depressed people don’t have. I’m taking my antidepresant as well as lithium. My lithium level is still low but I’m also having weekly thearpy with a psycologist. I feel better each day. I think correct diagnosis is the key.
Love the videos thanks ☺️
Have you tried Altuda?

Thank you for the videos. This all makes so much sense. I didn't know those feelings were part of depression. I really appreciate all you do. Thanks again from Ontario, Canada.
👋🏽 Hello from Texas! Thank you for the great videos, they always help me learn something new about living with bipolar disorder. I’ve been enjoying Julie’s articles for a while now and I’ll have to make sure to get a copy of her book.
Thanks for this very simple and easy to listen to video. I’m in this current state right now and found your video while I was scrolling thru Julie’s past articles.

Houston! Thank you, your videos helped me tremendously at a time I had no clue about BD, in complete darkness. It helped me better understand my husband and understand what I was dealing with. I know how overwhelming it is and that is why I am so thankful that you still take the time to do this work. Julie is amazing! I must have read everything she has said and written, I remember this article. You both have been tremendously helpful, many many thanks.

I'm from Nevada. Thank you for your videos and all the work you do to help bipolar people.
From the US in Georgia and I’ve been watching and studying your videos for 4-5 years now ever since my diagnosis. I always knew I was different but having an actual diagnosis on paper with a plan in progress really helped validate my feelings and perspective. Seeing vlogs like yours makes me feel less alone and lets me know that I’m not the only one who feels all sorts of ways sometimes.
Thanks!!

super informative!!! Thank you so much for this page
Hi Rob. I'm from Pennsylvania but I live in New York state. Thank you for sharing your videos. I have learned a lot from them.
This video has been so helpful. Thank you so much.
Jacksonville Florida. I've been following this channel for about a year now and am so grateful that you do these, thank you! I'm 57, was diagnosed in my early 30s... which explained so much about the behaviors I'd been experiencing my entire life before the diagnosis; my family and friends always rolled their eyes and made fun of my "moods" or blatantly told me to "get over it! Enough with your moods! Man up"
This video especially hit home for me; I am in and have been in the exact irritable/angry space you describe for over a year now, I know what the trigger was, and do my best to calm myself... but it's fucking exhausting.
As so many others have said, just knowing I'm not the only one is a great relief!!

Hi! I'm from Colombia! Your videos truly help me to understand my bipolar disorder. Thanks a lot!
Super helpful - thanks for sharing! I'm from Australia
Recently discovered your channel through my therapist. I've been diagnosed bi-polar II for a couple of years now but I never had the strength to face it, I've always been and still am scared of my diagnosis. But your channel has helped me understand that it's not so scary and I don't have to do it alone. I hope that leaving a comment will drive engagement and help grow your channel to the size it deserves, thank you
Iowa, United States. Thank you for the video. They make me feel less alone in struggling with bipolar disorder
Rob, your vids have been so helpful for our family! My youngest daughter deals with ultra ultra rapid cycling. A full cycle of manic to low and back again is 5 days, week after week.
Get her help, so she feels better.
@Freetobeme Me that comment, although I hope you did not mean it to be, sounded unkind.
Unkind, because it was stated without any knowledge of the time, effort, counseling, medical appointments, sleepless nights, difficult days and meds that have been our life with her for the past 5.5 years.
It's so valuable that you believe what she tells you about her feelings and problems and you do so much to support her! Just thank you and stay strong

I'm in Arkansas Robert. Sorry I haven't written in awhile. I have been finding ways to make it without med's and I thank you pointing out the agitated state of depression. I live in Germany 🇩🇪, but originally from Russia. You channel is the only one I support on Patreon. Your videos were (and still are!) the GREAT support for me when I went through the darkest time if my life in 2018. Thanks for that! 🙏 ❤️
Hi Rob! Here from New Jersey and I can’t thank you enough for your videos! I’ve known my SO since I was 15, we were BEST friends my whole life and for the past 10 years. About 2 years ago things started changing and I KNOW him so well I knew something was not right. Turns out after he gets the girl of his dreams apparently (me) and a family of his own…our fairy tale turned into a bi polar nightmare. I’m so grateful for your videos because they are truly helping me make sense of ALOT that didn’t make any sense at all. I can’t express how much that means and helps me currently!! Thank you a million times for your amazing videos! ❤ With things like the videos to help us gain knowledge I’m hoping we can make it through another 10 years.! Hope your well!!
I'm near Sydney in Australia.

Hello, please respond. I am also from Durban and don't know anyone in Durban who has Bipolar.
Glad I just found your channel. I was diagnosed at 14 with ‘manic depression’ known today as Bipolar disorder. Last week I was in my manic stage: having a ton of energy, goals and accomplishing them, on the constant move and positive thoughts. This week I’m down and have all of the systems you described. I’m 47 and the older I get with this disorder, the harder it feels to handle at times. Thank you for your channel. I’m going to share it with others so they can better understand me.

Washington State here. I seem to be most in denial about the depressive side of BPD I deal with if I am able to get out if bed, but this reminds me there is so much more to it and I need to broaden my idea and definition of a depressive episode. That helps me be less hard on myself, so often when I am behaving with some or all of these symptoms, I feel it's a moral failing... This reminds me I am dealing with something bigger than me and be gentler with myself. Thank you so much for this channel. 😊

Hey Rob, Netherlands here, was diagnosed type 2 when I was 16, and 5 years later they found out it wasnt bipolar, my meds where stopped and I fell down a depresion for about 20 years. Now im out of that and rebuiling everyting. Officialy I have nothing just and use pills (crissis doc gave to me) But when I came out of my deprsion I was almost instand in a hypo manie.. These days im well the most stable I ever been. I reconize so much but i lost almost every hope in the psychiatry world. Its good to see more people strugleing but make it work annyhow! Maby when im stronger ill go back and let myself test again, Thanks for your videos they really help! Big hugs
Hi Rob, I haven't commented on your videos yet, but since I came across your channel a few weeks ago I've listened to some of them here and there. I think through watching your videos I can now realize that perhaps I've been afflicted with Bipolar. I may never be able to get a diagnosis, but that's alright. Just the knowledge of that and admitting to myself that I have this is enough for me to take precautions. In a way, I already have been adapting to it for a long time, just not always in the most healthy of ways. I have my own routine that allows me to function in what I call a middle zone.
Anyway, I meant to comment on this video simply to say thank you for your videos and for making this channel. I appreciate it and it has helped.

Hi Rob! I'm in Nebraska. These videos help so much. On Sunday I realized I'm starting to crash again. The extreme sadness, the hopelessness, also the anger. I ran to the gas station for a pop and was pissed off at everyone and everything I saw. I said to myself, "I hate nouns.!" I see my doctor tomorrow and I'm nervous about that as well. Thanks for the recommendation for the book ❤

I am from South Africa. I am so grateful to have found your wonderful videos very recently.
My belief was I had been incorrectly diagnosed. Your videos have convinced me I was wrong.
The meds are a life long commitment and so are keeping in touch with my feelings and moods.
I was diagnosed at the ripe old age of 65 which is nine years ago.
It surfaced after a new relationship with a narcissist. The wheels came off totally, including an attempted suicide.
There is no white washing only complete honesty from you.
Thank you Rob for making me feel less of a pariah. I have lost the respect of my family, but fortunately have a few supportive friends.

I'm from Canada, thank you for these wonderful videos. You've really helped me. Understand bipolar
Greetings from California! I’m so glad the videos have been helpful to you. Stop by the channel anytime! If you ever have any questions or would like to connect, there’s a link in the video description where you can reach me 🤗☀️☀️
Thanks, you may have known idea that you were a chosen angel 😇
I'm so glad that I have JUST found your channel. I live in Tasmania Australia. I'm 56. At 30, I was wrongly diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder with Generalised Anxiety Disorder. After seeing the same psychiatrist for the past 12 years, just 2 weeks ago, he diagnosed me with type TWO bipolar and generalised anxiety disorder. I'm currently in a bipolar depression and only leave the house if I MUST. I get everything delivered to my house. I have 4 adult married son's and 7 Grandchildren. I don't get very much hypomania but absolutely LOVE it when I do. It devastates me when I crash again and YES I always attract narcissistic men who gaslight me. I wish I could just go off to sleep and not wake up. I have trouble GETTING to sleep but then sleep for HOURS. I also sleep for about 4 hours every afternoon. When I have hypomania, I only sleep for about 4 hours in a whole day and wake up feeling on top of the Earth !!
This lifelong illness just SUCKS 💔

This was really good to hear. All of these components to the bipolar depression resonated with how my own struggles have presented. So its good to know that this is apart of the illness and not a defect in character in myself. Although, I am responsible for what I may so, think, or even do, this helped me today.

Cheers and thank you so much for the amazing CZcams channel as always!

Thanks for watching!
I watched your videos years ago when I was in a terrible state thinking I may be bi polar. Started therapy over a year ago and we got through a lot of the trauma work just to realize I may have bipolar as well. While I don’t match a lot of the typical manic symptoms I do match all of these. I was referred to a psychiatrist but thankful for these videos in the meantime
Watching from Tennessee. Love your videos.
Awesome! Thank you!
Illinois. I am pretty sure I am bipolar and have never been diagnosed as such. It’s always dysthymia or cyclothymia which seems pretty under the radar. No one in my family accepts me because I’m moody. I just don’t fit in
Was born in L.A....now living in France,
long story! Sometimes in a depressive mode I can't see the wood for the trees! I know I'm depressed and it's so difficult to get the positive motivated...fight it or ride the tide??? Thanks for another insightful video :)
I’m from Santiago, Chile. I’ve been a subscriber to this channel since at least a couple of years now, very informative and relatable. Diagnosed with bipolar 2 although I suspect it’s actually bipolar 1. I also have BPD
