    My two cents: Celebrity culture has taken on a more cult like behavior amongst fans. While fans have always been determined to underplay their favorite celeb’s bad behavior I think they have become more fanatical than ever. In the case of those Uber rich celebs not sticking their necks out on anything their fans can then say they haven’t done anything. Do those celebs care? I’d say some would say better safe than sorry and continue counting that bread.

      The term "Stan" came from that Eminem song about an obsessed fan... Stans are obsessed fans who seem to not be able to understand that these people are just people, too. They treat them literally like they are gods and it's weird. Shoot, I don't even like saying I'm a fan of anyone because Stans make fans look insane a lot of the time.
      Shoot, I joined a Beyonce forum a couple of weeks ago and it's full of people who literally LIVE for this woman. Stay up late watching her social media for a hint of anything and then will analyze it for days. If you say anything that is not praising her, they act as if you went to her house and threw a shoe at her and her kids or something. Like, I stopped even posting there because of how they act (literally said I didn't exactly love a song of hers and they came for me, saying I wasn't a real fan and blah blah). And I know people are fans of other celebs to that level (the Barbs and Swifties, a swiftie told me to ksm multiple times for saying I didn't really enjoy her music, lol, and Beliebers come to mind), so it's not just Beyonce. It's just crazy how people get so obsessed. I can happily say it couldn't be me acting like that out here over ANYONE.

Being victims and survivors of injustice doesn’t shield us from all the images and messages we’re force fed under capitalism.

    I think it also comes down to people having very low self esteem and feeling as though they’re either living vicariously through their fav celebrity or worshipping them as a deity bc they’re in awe of that person’s artistic talent.
    -The second point is pretty straightforward but it’s still silly at the end of the day because although someone may have put out songs that touch us or can sing phenomenally..that doesn’t actually speak to the person’s character! And just bc someone is artistically talented doesn’t make them better than the rest of us. I believe everybody has a talent, it’s just usually not also paired with fame and that’s where people get lost in the sauce. Like these people believe celebrities are some kinda majestic class of superhuman and the rest of us are peasants lol when if you go into ANY Black church, you’ll hear at least five women who can sing better than or just as well as most famous singers today.
    - The low self esteem one really is sad bc some everyday people genuinely just feel like they ain’t shit and so they look at their fav and project onto them, as if this person was their avatar into the upper class/world of fame and adoration…it’s particularly sad to me bc these people don’t care about class loyalty bc they actually literally hate themselves and don’t care about any exploitation or anything the celeb is doing.
    -Third group are those who are delusional and truly believe in their hearts that their fav is their bestie/would be if they ever had the chance to meet 😳

    Im gonna get some heat for this, but I just came from another video on this. Beyonce and Kelis. And to be fair, I have always been a huge Kelis fan. But, let’s not pretend that her criticisms of Beyonce were not valid. Beyoncé did not ask her permission to use her song influence on her album. She did not pay or credit her properly. She didnt even give her a heads up. Yet people were all up in arms and upset at Kelis that she was like, hey. Please dont steal my music. Why? Why are people so for Beyonce and feel the need to protect a literal billionaire that they have most likely never met and will never meet? Why is she above criticism? Why is it okay for her to steal, embellish, or whatever other similar term you would like to use to justify unfair practices in the music industry? Why was Kelis attacked? Because you dont vibe with her music as much? Because that’s ridiculous. And then be told that we should be grateful that we were even mentioned at all.

    • @Five20three
      @Five20three Před 6 měsíci +4

      This is the problem with this entire Kelis situation. Kelis does not own the rights to her music. Pharrell does and that's who cleared the sample and is actually credited on the damn song in question. That should really be the end of this but because it's Beyonce, people want to skip over these basic facts that should end the conversation.
      If Kelis has an issue with Pharrell having control over her music, then she needs to take him to task for it. Calling Beyonce a thief(when she is not) doesn't change that fact.
      BIA sampled Kelis too. Guess who signed off on it...
      and there's not a damn thing she can do to stop it if she has no legal rights to that music.
      Once again, this ain't protection. This is about aiming the vitriol at the right people. You mad a song you have no rights to got sampled. That's between you, Pharrell and the record label.

      There’s another artist I love named Ashnikko. And Kelis has made note how nice it was that Ashnikko asked her permission to sample “I hate you so much right now.” Just because she didnt HAVE to ask; it doesnt mean that she shouldnt. It would’ve been nice is all I’m saying. 🤷‍♀️

    I definitely need more context for this. I think people look to celebrities to be more than what they are which are entertainers. This leaves the actual people responsible for social positioning unaccounted for. This is why we have career politicians in this consistently eroding country, but instead of taking them to task, we rather hop online and tell Oprah(or whoever else) she doesn't do enough. Or we want to tell celebrities they don't speak up enough, when we really just want them to agree with us. We must stop placing celebrities on pedestals and give our focus and attention to actual elected officials whom are actually being paid with tax dollars to make this country better. I will NEVER take any celebrity to task over social issues. It's not computing for me.

    Okay however true this is we just don’t want people being exploited by some few individuals. We know it doesn’t help us regular people . But to whom much is given much is expected it’s about ethics . When you are working for someone they don’t have to treat others or you like shit . Example Rihanna we are saying your music and make up is dope however we ask that she should create better working conditions for Savage Fenty employees . Because it’s below standard .

    • @Five20three
      @Five20three Před 6 měsíci

      Rihanna does not run Fenty...
      But this complaint(I don't know what it is) needs to be taken up with Fenty's parent company whom should be receiving pressure from local government where they employ people.
      That's the issue people are having with "going at celebs". It's a spray and pray tactic because you're not aiming at the right entity. If you want real change, you have to take the right people to task or it looks like faux outrage.

    • @BooDotBoo
      @BooDotBoo Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@Five20three Rihanna is THE FACE, though, and it is HER company. If she wanted, she could definitely say people need to fix the working conditions and pay better wages or she would X the company... and, guess what? It would happen because it is HER company. Y'all act as if these celebs, even if they aren't the exact people who run things, have absolutely no say or power behind anything. The reason they have these companies is because of who they are and their influence, they would not have it otherwise... if they said they'd pull out from a company for not doing something to help employees, that company would either drop them (which could cause a huge PR nightmare) or do it because they would lose the face of the company. Be real. Now would going after one company fix things? Maybe not, but if we could get a few celebs standing up, then more would follow suit because, let's be honest, celebs tend to follow trends. Because trends and their fans KEEP them being celebs.
      Like, if we led with these attitudes y'all have, slaves wouldn't be free, we wouldn't have rights, but y'all turn every which way to excuse celebs, like we keep saying.

      It's because people will excuse black billionaires because they, somehow, see it as uplifting for us all. I could agree with that IF these black billionaires were actually putting that money back into the community, speaking on our issues with more than empty gestures (yes, even if they donated $500k to Africa, it won't do much), but they don't. They're literally just handing their money over to more white folks (white designers, white business owners, etc), so the power never really shifts, but black billionaires have fooled many into thinking it has. Having a $2 million chain and driving a nice car isn't doing anything for anyone except the people they bought it from. And that, somehow, this stuff will shift power for us regular folk... it won't. We've had rich black people for a long time, even during our worst times as black people, but has that changed anything in all this time? Black billionaires and capitalist never saved us and it never will.

They are better off than most of us on their WORST days. I'm not trying to say they don't go through things, but think about the difference between you and them. And the fact that people act like you can't give rightful critiques on them or even just not like them without being called a "hater" is annoying. And, yes, unfortunately, your favorite can cause harm to the environment, the certain groups, to whatever and it can and should be called out. None of these people are above anything because they are just people and I think way too many people forget that. Enjoy their work, think their work is amazing, but they are NOT perfect. And, tbh, a lot of rich people have sucky politics BECAUSE they are rich. Things that matter to us do not HAVE to matter to them. You really think Oprah is caring if your school discriminated against a couple of black/gay/female students? Maybe back when she was coming up because it was highly important to making her into who she is today, but now, she couldn't care less, despite what she says she stands for. Money changes people in most cases... and often their politics right along with it, sadly.

    I don't resonate with what you're saying. I think there are a lot of us who don't see capitalism as "bad", the problem is when the owners of capital are greedy, selfish, power hungry. Because of this, leaving it up to everyone's discretion to be fair doesn't work but on an individual basis capitalism is not bad. Entertainment is a great example of this because most of the people you name got their wealth by exploiting themselves and their art, not by exploiting people. So going after them just feels nitpicky when there are actual people with actual power causing actual harm. Unless, of course, these celebrities are inflicting harm on others, then I think most people are happy to critique and withdraw support. Maybe, I'm missing something?

I will always respect Taylor swift for how she outsmarted the industry, but that doesn't mean she hasn't been a mean girl and still can be even now. Look what she did to Olivia Rorigo just because she was unsecure about being replaced by her. But black people are the worst when it comes to black powerful men. We should hold people accountable but it always seem that we hold other people to a higher standard than we do ourselves and a lot of the times you who give much of the criticism aren’t even constant across the board. Every screamed about Beyoncé not speaking about palenstine and Israel and her moving being played there. Yet, majority of the people have not said anything about color purple. Taylor swift concert movie did not get reviews mentioning Israel but Beyoncé did. Y’all didn’t even hold drake who is one of the most well known Jewish people more accountable for not doing more and Dj Khlad who has ties to Palestine. Y’all didn’t say anything when rihanna new shoes are now selling in Israel. So my issue with you guys giving criticism is that it’s very pick on 1 person for a week and then you move on with your life. You guys hate billionaires but Beyoncé isn’t a billionaire but rihanna, jayz, Kanye are. But most videos about billionaires are centered around Beyoncé. Y’all hate billionaires and Taylor and Beyoncé tours making all this money but they have contributed to giving billionaires of dollars to the economy which in turn help you. I work for tax revenue. I see the money both artist brought in and it got sent out to cities all around the world to help with running those cities. I’m not saying anyone is above criticism but let’s be consistent for one in criticism for ALL and let’s not get mad for one week and then y’all forget. Let’s also not hold others to a higher standard and then say well I can use Twitter even though it’s ran by Elon, who openly supports Israel just because your a regular person and not famous. Regular people have buying power and the power to protest.

      Ahhh. That's what this is about?
      Beyonce is doing the right thing. She doesn't have to side with anyone. If she comes out in support for Israel, people are going to be mad. If she comes out in support for Palestine, people are going to be mad. In reality this has nothing to do with her or any other person(fuck a celebrity TBH) that have no ties there. That war is between to foreign countries that have different governments involving themselves. Celebrities are pedestrians too.
      Our government is the one that voted against the cease fire. Beyonce saying something changes that? Our government are the ones supplying Israel with weapons and money and possibly even troops. Is Beyonce saying anything about this war changing these facts?
      This is not about protection. It's about the same people with anti celeb rhetoric being pure hypocrites. Why do you care what Beyonce FEELS about a war she didn't start, is not profiting from and has no direct impact to? I'll tell you why. You want what she "feels" to line up with what you feel. If that's not placing someone on a pedestal I don't know what is. This is why people are picking and choosing who they take to task for not speaking.
      I watched Selena Gomez get dragged up and down SM for saying she wishes healing or something very generic not taking a side, but rather saying war is bad. People wanted her to take a side. Society today is unhinged.

    • @BooDotBoo

      And this is always what puts me on the fence with this. I completely agree with what Kim said, but why is it that Beyonce and black folks (or often just black women, in general) get the MOST smoke when it comes to ANYTHING. Like, no one bothers Taylor Swift about this stuff and I even asked a black TS fan why she was upset about Beyonce, but not Taylor. And you know what she said to me? "Well, you know we don't expect stuff from her like that, she's white and just a pop girly." Okay, but why is SHE EXEMPT??? That's what never makes sense to me when it comes to these discussions. Black people or any person of color is always asked about their culture and any issues going on in their culture/community, but we NEVER see white people grilled like this about anything. Why don't people ask what TS thinks about why most mass shooters are white?
      But I will disagree about these billionaire helping us in the economy. Okay, these tours gave SOME people jobs, but it didn't give us all jobs, it didn't put money in all our pockets, it didn't make groceries go down, so while I get what you're saying, I also don't think you're seeing the big picture and why these people are being rightly hated... billionaires don't help us, at all. If they did, we wouldn't be where we are right now, with more people in poverty than people living comfortably. Not rich, but just not having to worry about money. And you say you work in tax revenue, so you should know this better than anyone else.
