UPDATE: We heard from Cooler Master that the chair's casters are "Pressure casters" which prevent the chair from moving while someone is sitting on it for stability, and that the backrest's tilt structure may have been damaged during use as it is not meant to recline without using the seat tilt lever.

The chair doesn't roll easily with weight on because they're "braking" castors. so people dont roll around while sitting. Apparently a new thing. It moves easier when the weight is off.

Braking castors usually work the other way around, when you get up they lock so your chair doesn't go on an adventure.
But as Jake said, the castors can be replaced relatively easily. If the wheels were the only problem with the chair, everybody could overlook it.

As a heavy boi myself, and despite CM's update on the back rest, that chair clearly isn't made to handle leaning back on it...
It's been the issue for most of my office chairs, until i just got one from IKEA and asked someone to cut a steel "L" bracket to go reinforce the bottom cushion and back joint, between the cushions and the arm rests because again, when the only thing connecting those two is plastic, it's bound to break.
Likely this chair was rated for around 200 pounds which I think Jake exceeds .
I finally broke down and bought a sayl. Handles my 300lbs blob just fine. No signs of quitting, yet.

@@JustinDavis90 good to know! I had one IKEA Millberget fail completely at the arm rests (which hold the back of the chair) and a second one starting to go before I got the aforementioned steel "L" brackets. Those seem to have solved the situation though.
after going through several decent quallity office chairs, as a big tall but not absurdly heavy person i was frustrated with soposidly good office chairs just NOT holding up to my level of apparent abuse.
so i bought a 2nd hand recliner, it has a heavy metal frame thats sturdy and robust. im able to use it all day long every day, its wider than a normal chair so im able to switch seating positions, and it has held up for multiple years rather than less than 1.
It's crazy that it bends that easy, but what does the chair list as the weight limit of the chair? I like Jake's review. It's more of how a normal (non media) person would review it.
On the website they list 300lbs as the weight limit, and I doubt Jake is over that

I think Jake needs to do more chair reviews. I'm not as much of a giant as he is, but I'm DEFINITELY bigger than Colton, and "this chair bent during standard operation" is an important data point that our tiny fired friend simply couldn't have presented
6'4", 200-210 pounds at any given time- definitely feel you there, I had to go all the way into "four digit price tag office chair" territory to get a seat that was durable enough for my fat ass
I have a Cooler Master Ergo L and despite it's 200kg weight capacity, the metal frame that holds the back to the base has snapped. I really need to pull it apart and see if there is anything that I can do to "fix" it or, failing that, get a new chair. I will be keeping the wheel base and gas lift for any new chair though, that part is rock solid.

I would love to see more Jake doing chairs, I'm roughly his size and it's impossible to find good chairs of any kind, listings are vague about weight limits, build quality varies wildly, and worst of all, not a single one I've sat in has been able to keep the back perfectly vertical which makes you look so far down when reclined you get headaches from the neck strain. Please! More Jake chair reviews!
I'm a long time fan of The Buttkicker audio transducers. I have one on my couch in the living room and the gaming edition mounted on my Secret Lab. Up until recently you had to use something like Voicemeeter to split your audio output and adjust the amp just as you would for a sub. Buttkicker though just came out with their own software with hand tuned plugins for games. I tried it with Flight Sim and Forza and it's a much better experience since the haptics are specifically tuned (and you can adjust everything). I highly recommend it for anyone looking for that "4d" haptic feedback - no need to buy a new chair!

Since I just parked on a new SecretLab, I thought of Buttkickers as well while watching the video. Reading that they have their own software which works well, I'm seriously considering buying Buttkicker now =D
It's impressive what Voicemeeter can do for routing audio between interfaces, devices, and apps, but for god's sake somebody needs to grab those guys by the scruff of the neck and tell them to FIX THEIR DAMN UI.
It's not intuitive at all. It's convoluted and buggy. The system settings panel is a nightmare to navigate. Sometimes features work out of the box. Sometimes they require an interface reset, a system reset, a device manager refresh, and proper alignment of all the celestial bodies just to get a device to appear in a drop-down menu. And sometimes after you've set everything up _juuuuuust_ right, it says "fuck you" and reverts back to previous settings after a restart. God forbid you have a VB-audio cable in use somewhere as well, as that app also loves to make up its own mind about what the sample and buffer sizes should be, overriding all system and ASIO settings and requiring a reboot... which resets the voicemeeter settings.
I would kill for a very cut-down, simplified version of Voicemeeter with a single-window visual patch cable UI and the ability to run their own VST plugins. That's all most people need. And visualizing the signal paths, sources, and outputs as a series of patch cables would do a lot to clear up any confusion during the setup process, ESPECIALLY when something in the chain isn't working. It sucks having to scrap a setup and brute force it with a DAW every time Voicemeeter wants to throw a fit. Most of the free VST hosts out there are able to do great stuff to the audio with super low latency, but if the VB-audio apps refuse to recognize the signal I'm putting into the patch insert... nothing I can do about that.
If there's a lean, non-DAW alternative to Voicemeeter I'd love to try it. I wanna yeet Voicemeeter into the sun.

A lot of budget gaming chairs have that issue with the back bending over time. I think they get away with it by saying max capacity of 200lbs. But no matter what weight you are, you can bend it with your arms lol
Also, a lot of chairs have the exact same fixture (as in just the one metal bit in the middle) and it won't bend in normal use, it's meant to be slightly springy. I think it's a problem with poor choice of material and on a chair this expensive that's inexcusable oversight. And same for the caster wheels. Sure, you can replace them for something else, but at this price point these basic wheels should not even be an option.
They posted it in the video max 300 pounds for this chair. You wouldn’t think it would do this..

I actually just did a cheap under $100 transducer setup and its super easy to do. For racing games and vibration you should be using sim hub to configure it on PC.

They probably broke something.
Made of mild steel.
There's two possibilities: the facility that actually manufactured the chair is grifting and cheaping out on properly spec'd components (see also the trials and tribulations of the LTT screwdriver), or the underlying design doesn't support people over a certain weight threshold (typically 200 pounds in a lot of cheap office chairs).
Mild steel and too thin. Ideally you'd design reinforcement in there, like a stamped channel, or use a MUCH thicker piece. This is why basic cheap office chairs never use just a metal plate for that whole area where the backrest is connected to the seat base, it's generally a flattened tube on the backrest and a welded multi sided piece on the seat, and that's not a high end feature, that's what you expect to find for $40.

Had two CM chairs, the first last about 2 years and was comfortable, but I had to add a second cushion and arm rest pads after a few months. The second I only had for about 4 months before selling it because of how incredibly uncomfortable it was almost immediately, ended up just biting the bullet and getting a SecretLab like I should have originally. I like CMs comp hardware, but I feel like they're more interested in making their chairs look good than being comfortable.

2 years for a chair is very short, I'd avoid CM chairs completely. Get a secretlab something or pony up for an Aeron
@@kainan613 I ended up with a CM Ergo L because Secret Labs had a 6 months waiting list on their chairs and I needed a new chair now. I would have spent less on the Secret Labs chair while (hopefully) still having a working chair 3 years later.
Looks so cool and I was actually looking for a new chair but I'm a bit of a slouch and a heavy boi so the backrest bending is a no-go. Guess I'm back to waiting for SL nappa to get back in stock
Overall, it’s cool to see electronics added onto a gaming chair! I wish it was more modular where you could put your own designed or third party arm rests (and maybe even your own electronics like RGB arm rests).

Home theater nerds have been doing this for a while with bass shakers. If you really wanted to do this on a gaming chair I'd recommend just buying a high end chair from haworth, herman miller, steel case, or a similar high end brand. Then get 1 or two bass shakers. The BST-2 would probably be plenty for an office chair. The BST-1 would be a good upgrade. A small 2 channel amp would be required to power them. Something like a fosi bt20a or a nobsound G2.
Mount the bass shakers to the bottom of the chair. Ideally in the middle for 1 shaker, or offset evenly on the left and right for 2. Find a secure spot to mount the amp. Run speaker wire between your bass shaker(s) and amp. Run an aux from your amp to your audio device (pc, headphone amp, interface, etc...). You may need an aux y splitter and rca to aux adapter. Then plug your amp into the wall and voila. Bass shaking office/gaming chair.
The quality of your setup will entirely depend on how securely you mount your shakers. Clean wiring will also be necessary so you don't trip over yourself. You can get higher end amps and shakers if you want to go overkill but for a less than 40lb chair you probably don't need any more than a 35w shaker. This also wouldn't work to great on any chair with a mesh seat. So aeron fans, sucks to suck I guess.

I've had plenty a chairs from office depot to say that most chair manufacturers cheap out on that metal column on the back, and me being a heavy guy, gave 'em hell in no time. I had to return at least 5 chairs for the same problem. Until I finally went for an expensive "ergonomic" office chair from a specialty store which it still works after 6 years, then gaming chairs popped up and 90% use the same metal column so I stayed away from them lol

The smell comes from the off gassing of the plastic. The same thing that causes the "new car smell".

That chair definitely wasn't made for Jake's weight. I'm 200lbs and I'm pretty much at the limit of what a normal chair can take. Corsair for example says you should get the XL chairs for anything between 80-120kg. I'm not saying that the single piece connecting the back rest is a good idea, but I don't think it will get bent under normal use conditions with someone within the weight limit of the chair.
genuinely great to see comment on the packing material. I know its not a huge deal regards the final quality of the product but it jsut irks me when waste like that is given a pass because we dont see it. Right, onto watch the rest of this chaos

I'm quite happy with my Secret Lab 2020 Titan. The packaging was a great presentation in itself. The chair from top to bottom is excellent quality. I've conditioned the material a few times and followed all of the recommendations secret lab suggests and it still looks and feels brand new. Only mentioning it because it's the bar I set for me when I see chairs like this in videos.

Same here, I got mine after using a cheap one for 6 months.
The difference was night and day, those guys know quality.
Chairs that have a reclining function often are only supported from the middle and have no side supports. Often they can be set to recline if you lean back or tightened down to hold position. The question is are you bending it or is the adjustment tight enough to hold it in place but not so tight to prevent changing the angle when any force is applied. My chair has two recline functions, one you can lock it in place at any angle and another that adjust how much it will recline. If I don't tighten the lock down fully it will slowly recline if I lean back on it and it will stay reclined when I lean forward just like that chair did. I have the lock fully opened and max recline when I am using mose and keyboard I don't use the chair back and if I am watching something I like to recline.
You said it's pre production, while i probably can't bend it back like that, being a 6ft, 120lb string bean... it's probably something they can fix by hardening the steel that holds the back of the chair up, or thickening the metal used. something they likely will do for production.

@@vampirefox7 The "best" is pretty subjective when it comes to chairs. When I was looking for a new chair, I sat in a lot of very highly reviewed chairs at a local office supply store. If I were to review any of those chairs based on the few minutes I got to sit in them, they'd all be getting 1 star reviews for comfort. Most "ergonomic" chairs leave me with extreme lower back pain and numbness in my legs.

I actually bought one of those power bricks for my Christmas tree because the adapter died for some reason. As long as it's 19v and the brick can handle the load, it works amazingly
It would make a lot more sense if they were to use a battery bank to power it instead of a wall plug. That way you don't risk running over the cord and ripping it out of the chair or the wall. Maybe give you a pair of them so you can charge one without needing it plugged into the wall. Or if they were to partner with a power tool company like Milwaukee or Ryobi for powering it.
It does have an internal battery, they just didn't charge it after opening the box and before turning it on for the review so it only lasted a dozen minutes before they had to plug it in while testing. Jake even asked aloud "I wonder how much charge it has from the factory" before he looked for a charge level indicator.
Gotta say, this chair is... Well, it's a chair. Not really interested in poor build quality, janky operation, and odd gimmicks.

Those controls on the chair bring me back to sitting in the speaker chair on the floor connected to the PS2.
How does it know what kind of vibration it needs? It is based off audio frequency alone of it has software too?
The chair smells bad because of the quality of foam... this is why cheap mattresses also smell awful.
That's not actually true, the foam comes out nearly stink-free out of the chemical process. It's when the foam or the furniture is stored somewhere where they have these horrible mothballs against giant insects, that's where the smell comes from.
There's no way there isn't any long term health risks to inhaling plastic fumes from those extremely smelly plastics.
@@SianaGearz I would agree with you if that’s what they said it smelled like, but they specifically said ‘paint’ which is chemicals used to make cheap foam sadly. The rest of the review for sure also screams “as cheap as possible”

Seeing some brainlet comments here, so I just wanna say: If Jake is apparently so overweight that people think it’s his fault the chair’s bending, he must have Herculean arm strength to be able to bend it by hand.

@10:15 check the weight limit for the chair I bet Jake is well over the limit. Those things are usually only rated to like 240 pounds.
Checked their site. Limit is 300lbs and it's pretty obvious Jake is more than that.

I don't normally 👍 videos, but ya got mine for this one. Jake is pure Chaos mixed with Honesty is the best combination for a review. Side-note: as a gamer the arm rests REALLY need to be comfy and not hard-anything otherwise my arms get shredded over time. :)

Id be surprised if the chair was actually made to handle Jakes weight, most of these chairs are rated for 225-240 lbs, Jake seems to be above that.
He isn't THAT heavy. If he can bend it by laying down once, then it'll bend under a 100lbs within a few days. It's not acceptable.

I'd be surprised if this dude was not over the recommended weight range of the chair. Edit: the max weight for the chair is 300lb, Jake is probably close to that.

at 3:08 - Some chairs lock the wheels when you sit on them. Idk if this is by design or a flaw but I've seen this on several chairs, mainly cheaper ones. But it's worth it to keep in mind
