In this fishing video I'm out trying something new again; topwater fishing for whiting. We head out on the sand flats north of Adelaide in South Australia topwater whiting fishing. At home, the day before this fishing adventure, I made a DIY "floating" wading basket. Many people use simple clothes-washing baskets but I invested a little more so my basket could carry lures, a bucket for sunscreen, pliers, fish measurer and also carry 2 fishing rods. This was a great opportunity to try it out.
Using salmon oil on a sponge in a burley bucket I was able to attract a number of mullet but it was a tough day to find any yellow fin whiting. Unfortunately, the wading basket didn't perform to expectations and ultimately ended up being an expensive day out fishing with the basket tipping my GoPro and DJI microphone receiver in the water.
I'd love any thoughts and help in the comments on how I can improve my outcomes with this new style of fishing for me. How can I best improve my wading basket? I nearly didn't post this onto CZcams as it was such a fishing fail. I hope you enjoy it, and I'll take every failure as a lesson to improve as we do as anglers.

For those interested, the guys at D1 Store quoted me $230 to replace my DJI Wireless Mics... So that TopWater Whiting Fishing adventure was definitely a Costly Disaster.

Better to try an fail mate than not try at all. Once you get the box sorted it will be awesome 🙌

A good learning experience Matt. I don't know if it would work but the tub I use for crabbing I put 2 pvc axles underneath with the large white net floats which keep it afloat and work as wheels too. I also use the tub to hold a battery when floundering with a light down the Coorong

Thanks Kevin! Certainly a costly experience. Yes, I am looking at that sort of setup for sure! I think that will work.

Fish Parham on an incoming tide or dodge.
Fish Thompson's channels on an outgoing tide and incoming.

I don't have Facebook but you should try using 150 or 200mm PVC pipe around your box. if you use 90 elbows it would be waterproof and float better

That sounds like a great idea too! What an amazing brains trust we have here!

90mm stormwater pvc would probably be big enough, cheaper too. Use 4 x 90° elbows to make a rectangle so your tub sits in it without being able to fall through. Cable tie it on without putting any holes in the pvc. Wouldn't have to modify the tackle tray either as it would stay above the water line. Stability might be an issue if the current model tipped but bit of weight in the bottom or a clip on outrigger on the side the go pro mounts to stop it being side heavy
