    This subclass is so cool I absolutely love the flavor of it and I love the flexibility of the mechanics especially it's very forgiving when it comes to damage and resistance and I really like the fact that we can mount the drake while being the same size as it but I still want to play as a kobold I still like the creativity freedom though and I am really excited to make a build in the next video Friday is gonna be so awesome

    The thing about "cone" spells is if you can fly (cough dragon cough) and you are at 30 feet above and aim strait down, it becomes a 30 feet circle.

    I had this concept for a character, who was this Cowboy Knight. He'd be this armored sherif, with a whip, and hand crossbow, and he'd have this horse sidekick, but then i saw this class, and though it would just complete the character.
    A knight who is a cowboy/sherif, riding a dragon that is also his deputy.

    I used thaumatergy as a way to call my drake while it was hunting or flying. I'm not sure if that was the intent, but it works well at our table

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  Před 7 měsíci

      That's fair. It's such a versatile spell that Im not quite sure where it's intent lies. If it works, it works I guess

    Also, that mount losing its flying when Mounted by "you" is strictly you.
    Also also, have the Drake Grapple you & Drake can STILL have flight.

    It's Hiccup from HTTYD

    I've used thaumaturgy primarily to emphasize a character's presence. Make voice more powerful, make eyes more penetrating or even glowing. To my mind this should enhance charisma skills, but my dm never seemed to play it that way. For a ranger, who often dumps charisma, it would be nice if dm bought in. Still a ribbon.

    Counter argument: The Drake getting the buffs is BETTER than you getting the buffs because you can use Ally tanking. The drake can block off passageways to the ranger while providing some passive support to the ranger. People live the dragon rider aspect, but they should be looking at it like the awakened mind that scribes get.

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  Před 7 měsíci

      This is a fair point. The drake is tanky enough to reasonably take a hit or two and the cost to get it back is small.

    • @Razdasoldier
      @Razdasoldier Před 7 měsíci

      @@DapperSnapperGaming It is actually better to lose the drake. Resummoning it with a first level slot is better resource wise than healing it back up. So you can use it for death affects from the party too. (I am thinking features like Vampiric touch, the healing from fiend warlock, or temp hp from a long death. This resummon also makes changing the drake to the fight more optimal.

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  Před 7 měsíci

      I would have to agree. Unless it's part of a rest then topping it off probably won't be the play since Healing Word/Cure Wounds are the same cost as just bringing it back at full

    • @Razdasoldier
      @Razdasoldier Před 7 měsíci

      @@DapperSnapperGaming So we have a resource that you can use 8 times a day at high levels (3rd level and above slots not counted as they are more valuable).
      With it being that available, I say buffing that resource is better than buffing the ranger.

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  Před 7 měsíci

      That's a totally fair argument. I'm with it

    Picking up 1lvl of order cleric and fey touched + silvery barbs is worth the detour. For I recommand Eladrin, since they get you extra teleports and you could develop a theme between your seasons and your drakes element. Now we just need to pick up vortex warp.😊

    • @xiongray
      @xiongray Před 7 měsíci

      Luckily, Quandrix Student has you covered to grab both Silvery Barbs & Vortex Warp.

    • @xiongray
      @xiongray Před 7 měsíci

      With Fey Touched, I'd grab Gift of Alacrity. Going first is always good because Drake goes immediately after you, unless you go Mounted Combatant, which still is relative.

      It also gives haste which always nice for a fanger. Makes me drool for action surge. 😁🤤

      @@woutvanostaden1299Absolutely. This could buff you or Drake.

    That's why for me is no more than 8/10
    No expanded spells, sharing spells at lv 15 (Pally since lv 5), flying mount even later than Pally and such...
    Still wanna try this subclass and 3/4 more (I only played Gloom Stalker)

    Boost for the algorithm

  • @xiongray
    @xiongray Před 7 měsíci +2

    I believe this subclass is 10/10. I will say, there is one adjustment to elevate the power level of Drakewarden: Spell Points.
    1st Level Spell Slots: Summons Drake (not a Spell)
    3rd Level Spell Slots: 8d6 30-ft Cone. (not a Spell)
    By the time Drake's Breath comes online, the Ranger's avaliable Spell Points is 27. You can fire off 5 of these (3rd level Spell Slots = 5 Points). Versus a traditional Spell Slot System's three 3rd level Spell Slots.
    I find that Drake's Breath as an Action is actually kind of useful if the Ranger & Drake are not mounted as Drake moves immediately after you. You can Ready it and release with the Drake. Or if you are Mounted but let it be independent.
    There's two builds I can see: Traditional Sharpshooter and Snipe OR Shillelagh & Polearm Master & Sentinel & maximise that WIS. Both could benefit from Mounted Combatant but Melee Builds use more of it. The Drake is already Proficient in Dex Saves, so this has the potential to prolong that with Evasion.
    The Drake can attune to Magic Items... & Carts. Best to get Land Vehicle Proficiencies!!
    Thaumaturgy to ROAR like a Dragon! And to open doors at blitzing SPEEDS!
    Also, with the lack of subclass Spells; go for Strixhaven Student. You can't go wrong.

    • @xiongray
      @xiongray Před 7 měsíci +1

      I'd suggest Quandrix or Prismari Student as they both have access to Silvery Barbs through Strixhaven Initiate. As well as your choice of Cantrips. But the reason I suggested these is because the access to Haste. I'd prefer Quandrix for Enlarge/Reduce & Circle of Power. As well as their Mascot can become Huge. Then Enlarge it for Gargantuan. Or Summon a Beast.
      You got friends.

    Hmm how can we exploid the drakes ability to speak? (Draconic) Could they use ranger spell scrolls.🤔😋

    • @xiongray
      @xiongray Před 7 měsíci

      RAW, no they can't use Ranger Spell Scrolls because they're not Rangers but the DM can waive that. However, they can use Magic Items & presumably any that requires a command word.

    No magical attacks from the drake

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  Před 7 měsíci

      This is very true but the extra damage gained at levels 7 and 15 are not piercing so that is going to get around a lot of resistances, unless it is just nonmagical attacks which isn't the most common thing. I think it's passable since the damage isn't also piercing

  • @nathanh2664

    The concept is great but it is too weak as a subclass. An expanded spell list would help.
