  • Being from a country famous for its line of Cadbury products, I came to America with an unhealthy addiction to chocolate. I also came with an unhealthy bias as to what good chocolate is. That said, I recognized the importance of immersing myself into American culture, from its laws and customs to its mysterious, err, cuisine. And so, here are 7 candy bars I only ate after moving to America.

Damn, it's almost 3:00 in the morning. I'm whiling away the night because I have nowhere to be in the morning and no reason to get up before or after the sun rises due to the coronavisa. As such, here I sit reading other peoples comments about chocolate, which I don't even like that much. I do like Lawrence though as he makes me laugh...a lot. I didn't realize people take their chocolate so seriously until I started reading the comments here. Thanks for the laugh. Do you say that from experience? lol. Or, is it just a guess? I understand some parents literally forced their kids to eat soap as a punishment back in the day. Either way, I loved the comment. Very witty!

My favorite American candy bar, which I don't think they make any more--haven't seen one in decades--was called the Seven-Up Bar. It was like seven individual chocolates that you might pick out of a chocolate box, but all fused together into one bar. One item was always a Brazil nut, chocolate covered; one was an orange jelly; and then there were, I think, a chocolate cream, a vanilla cream, a couple of caramels, and I'm blessed if I can remember what the seventh one was. We used to get these all the time in California in the 1960s.

Lindor truffles are mostly palm oil anyway. Look at the ingredients. Many "chocolates" aren't even made with cocoa butter anymore. Legally something can not be called chocolate unless it is made with chocolate liquor or cocoa butter. Dove is one of the few that is still made with cocoa butter. Dove dark chocolate is my favorite. Junior mints are a close second. 😀
