🏀 Welcome back to the show, basketball enthusiasts! In today's video, we delve deep into the intricacies of bad offense in the NBA. A few weeks ago, we explored bad defense, and now it's time to shine a light on why certain teams intentionally target players on offense. Join us as we dissect offensive struggles, from missed shots to low IQ moments, and everything in between.
🛡️ Defensive Powerhouses vs. Offensive Liabilities
Ever wondered why teams keep players with questionable offensive skills on the court? It's often because these players excel on the defensive end. We kick off our discussion with the center position, where offensive shortcomings may be overshadowed by outstanding defensive capabilities. Case in point: Jaren Jackson Jr., an elite defender with a below-average field goal percentage. Is defense enough to justify offensive struggles?
    🤝 The Pick-and-Roll Predicament
Centers not only defend near the rim but also play a crucial role in pick-and-roll situations. We explore the nuances of effective screens, legalities, and the art of rolling to the basket. Some centers struggle with the pick-and-pop, attempting threes without the shooting prowess, while free throw shooting becomes a critical factor in close games.
🏀 Confidence: The Silent Offense Killer
Moving on, we dive into the psychological aspect of bad offense-players lacking confidence. Ben Simmons, once an All-NBA player, now faces scrutiny for passing up scoring opportunities due to shooting insecurities. We discuss the impact of fear of judgment on a player's performance and how it can lead to a complete offensive breakdown.
👊 Embracing Failure: The Poku Perspective
Taking inspiration from players who overcome adversity, we highlight Alex Pokujeski's journey. Despite early struggles, Poku remained confident, learned from failures, and emerged as a valuable NBA player. His resilience serves as a lesson for all aspiring athletes.
🤔 Low IQ Moments and Game-Changing Mistakes
Lastly, we examine instances of low IQ moments in bad offense, using Jayson Tatum's rare lapses in the Eastern Conference Finals as a case study. Even top-tier players can succumb to pressure, abandon plays, and make costly mistakes when emotions take over.
    🌟 The Steph Curry Standard
To wrap up, we reflect on the natural offensive prowess of players like Steph Curry. Analyzing his instincts, movements, and decision-making, we appreciate how some players seem born to excel on the offensive end.
👍 If you enjoyed our deep dive into bad offense, don't forget to like the video, and if you have additional insights or think we missed something, let us know in the comments! As a Celtics fan, Jayson Tatum’s biggest flaw on offense is his mental game. If he feels he should have gotten a call he will chuck up some garbage, and when the whistle doesn’t blow he turns to argue with the refs instead of following the ball for a potential second chance opportunity. His game would take another half step up in terms of production if he could just stay cool under pressure every game.

JJJ’s fg% would also be way worse since he takes more jump shots than most other centers. Rudy Gobert is gonna be more efficient if all he does is lobs and putbacks while JJJ is doing pick and pop 3s, elbow jumpers, etc

This is a guy that gets borderline bullied by media for his mental health struggles which i don’t think is right at all. It's kinda wild that someone can be a PROFESSIONAL basketball player and be so poor on offense (in any way, FG%, FT%, not knowing how to move or where to be on the floor). Even though, like you explained, their defense makes up for it enough that they're considered valuable enough to play on the team. Although, like you also said, *somebody* has to be the worst in any given category, it is still pretty crazy for those certain guys to have that big of a disparity. But I guess the concept holds true because I would still want JJJ or Wallace on my team. However somebody I probably wouldn't want on my team is lack-of-confidence guy. If somebody shows that they are clearly not ready or willing to at least try to be a threat on offense (in ways that they should be capable of) then it is rough to be out there on the court with them. Poor Benny(?), what the HECK happened?! With that same idea, I would take Poku on my team. Low b-ball IQ is always ugly to see too, again PROFESSIONAL player, this is your job, this is what you get paid (very well) to do well, gotta do better than the low IQ moments. I feel privileged to be able to watch Wardell Stephen Curry II play basketball. The guy is an offensive master, S tier level all time in the history of the game. Great vidzo, thank you, you da manzy.

    • @whatslaps
      @whatslaps  Před 4 měsíci +1

I felt a little bad about talking about triple J. He's by no means a wallace or rodman. He just happens to have the lowest FG%. Although I did let him off the hook for his rebounding. Simmons basically has the same problem that big ben who come into the league have. They've been good all their life and their self-worth comes from basketball. As soon as they start to lose their ego, they lose interest in the game. Better to be a TJ Mcconnell who has been told his whole life that pursuing basketball is bad idea. Poor Steph can't do it all, they're literally playing lester quionnes to solid minutes. Not sure what steph is supposed to do.

Love the video but the JJJ part needed a bit more context. He is a good defender but he actually provides a ton of value on offense as a shooter. His FG% is low because he shoots the most from 3 rather than anywhere else. Second is 3-10 feet and third is 0-3 ft, only being 20 percent of his shots.

Im not a grizz fan and I am not against JJJ being in a bad offense video. The reasoning is just moreso his shot selection. Maybe he shouldbt be taking 5 threes a game? Maybe he needs more looks at the rim? Either way, just recently found your channel and I love it. Keep it up!@@whatslaps
