im going to have to try that recipe John, it looks delicious. cheers for sharing and keep up the good work mate really enjoy the videos.
A fisherman on youtube who actually knows how to filet and cook their fish! Thank god.
I am glad that you approve Joe. I was a fisherman long before youtube. 😉👍🏻🎣
I don't know about anyone else but that was so satisfying to watch the filleting process.
Ling is a nice meaty fish.
Thank you, and yes Ling is a wonderful meaty fish. 😊
@@TheFishLocker THANKS John & Hannah.
John, your skills of filleting different types of fish are very educational.
I've learned ALOT from watching you process various types//shapes of fish.
Hannah, it's ALWAYS WONDERFUL to see what you create in your kitchen..from
what John brings home from his outings on the sea.
Kind regards, Ben
I'm honestly impressed you did such a good job fileting such a fatty with that tiny filet knife!!! Well done brother! Would love to see more of this!
My other filleting knife was left on the boat by accident. 🤷🏻♂️🤣
@@TheFishLocker sometimes you gotta work with what you got haha well done
love seeing a fish treated the right way at the end of its life, well done pal
Thank you Chris 👍
We are having fish tonight - a New Zealand variety called Moki. It has a short season, so we bought in bulk and froze most of it! I won't be doing the curry tonight, but I wrote down Hannah's recipe for the next time - I think it will work well! Thank you. Tonight it will be baked in a spicy crushed cornflake coating to go with salad!
Love Moki, Pan fried with lemon & herb butter sauce.
@@roughopal9997 I did something similar last week - only one more meals worth left - we soon demolished 5kg! The final lot is more 'scrappy' looking, so will be ideal for the curry Hannah did! We are blessed with the variety we get here in NZ!
I hope it worked out well 👍👍
I've got to add my thanks for your excellent tutorial of how to fillet a ling. Caught my first one yesterday off the south Cornwall coast. Thanks to this great video, I think I did it justice when processing. So grateful. Thanks John.
Glad the video was helpful to you.
Great video and great curry! We learnt years ago fishing for Ling in Ireland, if you can fillet them at sea it's a dam site easier than trying to get rid of a huge carcass if you don't have crab pots etc!
They are a big fish aren't they. 🤣
The Fish Locker I think by the time it was bin night the entire town wanted to kill us!!
I dig a hole in the compost heap and throw them in. No smell and goes back in to the life cycle.
Great video as always John!!
Cheers Johnny. 👍🏻
Wish I never watched this on an empty stomach looks lovely. Look out ling
Haha never watch the cooking videos on an empty stomach, I get hungry going back replying to comments!
Thanks John the demonstration on cleaning, cutting and cooking was just what I needed. It's a very fleshy fish but as Hannah said it didn't break up which is good to know. I love curries so have pinched the recipe.
You are very welcome 👍
Great video John and Hannah. You create such a stress free environment. Thank You.
We do our very best. 😊
Thanks to the fishlocker family for all that you do, reminding me of when I had to fillet ling, bought not caught sadly, when I were a teen, just as good as cod, great big white flakes of fish, in onion, peas and cream, with flowery spuds and country butter! Steep learning curve with the john dory though!
Thank you! Hope you're well, stay safe 👍
I love the way you guys explain what you are doing in such a way that even I can understand 😄 great video as always think I will try a fish curry myself
We are normal uncomplicated people Dave. We do things in an uncomplicated way. 😊
I love these type of videos! A beauty of a catch John.
Cheers Bren. 👍🏻
A thoroughly enjoyable video describing what you can do with ling.... A video that has got my mind curious for a while. Well done to both you John and Hannah.
Glad it was helpful!
Beautiful fish and even more beautiful how well you filleted it. So glad to see how much meat came off it. Thank you so much again John and happy fishing!
Thanks for watching 👍
Another great recipe by Hannah and John as always providing her with excellent ingredients
Thanks so much!
can't say iv seen any other ling filleting vids from other channels and iv often wondered how to but never having fished for them
iv never known! thanks for another good un 👍
I haven't either, which is why I thought I would do one. 😉👍🏻
Great wee video John... Brought back memories of my Fishmonger days back in the 70's in Edinburgh (y)
Glad you enjoyed it
Love fish and chips with cod. Here in Florida we usually use grouper for fish and chips. Both excellent.
Sounds great!
Hi John, you guys are amazing! Well presented videos, must be a veteran! Fantastic learning. I have just retired, so looking to find a way forward. Boat buying next year, and your video's are truly valuable. Thanks you guys. Stay safe
Ling is one of the most underrated eating fish.It do's make fantastic fish curry but is also excellent to batter and fry with a lot more taste than Cod.You have to skin it, and eat it fresh.Once frozen it is only good for fish pies and fish cakes.I once fished a group of Wrecks off Scarborough called 'The Scraps", We filled the boat with Big Ling but as you will all know they don't like the trip from the depths and you can very rarely put them back alive but we could not give them away for free!. Stu Johnson who had the British record Cod once told me that if you want to target the real big ling you need to clear the wreck of all the small ones first! I also fished the well head of an Oil rig where the British record Ling was caught over 59 Lb..That was a long steam out from Bridlington.Love your vids Bud.
If you want REALLY BIG Ling you need to try up off Shetland. Monsters!!!
@@TheFishLocker Thats true enough. The late ,great John Brennan who had, as far as I know the only charter boat with a 150 mile cop which meant he could fish anywhere in the North sea was planning to fish some wrecks way off Scotland to target monster ling..Sadly it never happened.
Wonderful job the both of you! The fillets and the cooked product were amazing. Both of you are a treat to watch in your element!
Our pleasure! Thank you Daniel
I'll probably never fillet a Ling in my life time, but just loved watching John do it. As for the cooking it looked so simple and no fuss. I make lots of curries but I do prefer using chicken, it seems to absorb the flavours better. Thanks as always for posting.
Thanks David I am glad you enjoyed it 👍
It’s an art to fillet such big and anatomically complex fish. Great job.
Thank you! They aren't the easiest ones to fillet!
Perfect treatment of the fish that you caught, nothing wasted and a well prepared healthy meal. Roll on summer when I can get back into some good fish like that. Great video as always John and Hannah.
Thanks William 👍👍
Great video, efficiency filleted. Caught 4 Ling and a Haddock yesterday. Having loins for tea. Underrated fish, very nice fried with breadcrumbs too.
Waving hi from California, where we have a similar fish known as Ling Cod that makes a wonderful fish curry. They can get upwards of 50 lbs, come in white, blue, and green flesh 💙 . They all turn a beautiful white after cooking. Looks great John, love seeing what's going on in Cornwall's waters.
Sounds great! I am glad you have enjoyed joining us! Stay safe 👍👍
Masterclass from the dynamic duo!! I’m starving. When I used to do a lot of wreck fishing, I always buried the carcasses in the garden, great compost! Fresh Ling is gorgeous. Great recipe Hannah! Rick Stein, whose he!😬👍
Thanks James I am glad you enjoyed the video 👍
Classy fish curry from the Ocean to the plate!
Your videos are always excellent and have been such comfort during the past year .
Keep up the the good work
Paul from Cheshire
Glad you like them!
That is so cool that you have a wife that likes the outdoors of fishing and foraging and can cook spectacular dishes of food indoor and outdoor your a lucky man my brother God bless you and your family and God bless all of you who are struggling and homeless because of covid-19
Thank you very much, stay safe 👍
compliments to the chef. it looks good and i bet it tastes better .
It tasted amazing!!
Great job catching, filletting, cooking! Nice to hear some interaction with the invisible Elizabeth during dinner, but i really miss James here!?
Thanks for watching!
Thank you Fishlocker Family for this video. Well done for your filleting Skills John. Not sure i am confident enough to try such a large fish. I did ask what Ling tasted like, so thanks. I will defo be trying this! Best Wishes to you all!
With larger fish such as this it is easier if you simply break it down into smaller sections like I show. 😉👍🏻
One day I hope to catch a big fish like yours to take home to the family, our summer is almost over and I havnt had any luck with a big one.But I love watching you catch and cook!Always makes my day!
Our summer is just getting started can't wait!
Brilliant as always. Nothing wasted, great filleting tutorial.
Ling looks delicious, good alternative to monkfish. I'll be trying that, just missing fresh coriander.
Its a lot cheaper than Monk as well! I can't stand coriander haha 👍
I have never seen a Ling filleted before John. What an education! Thank you so much! And the curry Hannah... oh yes!! That looked delicious! I will be making a note of this one for sure. Thank you!!
You are so welcome!
Thankyou for take the time to pop onto the live tonight John!!! A dozen Dogfish in the end. Thanks again.
No drama mate any time. Just pulling my hair out with editing and admin so needed 10 mins away from it all. Tight lines mate. 😉🎣
Hi john another great video always plenty of info and a great watch always for anyone weather fisherman or not to see how to cut up fish and as curry yum 👍
Thank you Colin, I am glad you enjoyed the video 👍
Love the 'catch and cook' videos. Great team work!
Thanks Steve. 😊
Yum! That looked fantastic! Great team work! As a fellow co-worker used to say “teamwork makes the dream work.”
Love that!
Great to see how good you are at filleting. None of that fish has gone to waste. End result looks tasty as well! Cheers Ben.
Thanks 👍👍
The meat of the Ling is absolutely beautiful, never seen one cut before. Thanks for the video.
You are welcome, it is a great fish 👍
Great video John & Hannah. Love Ling but never had it curried. Might have to give it a try!! When we are allowed out and about again this would be definitely something I would try. Thanks for the filleting John. A sharp knife is always good to have when filleting. All the best. Graham🎣🎣
Thank you Graham, hope you can get out soon to get some 👍
Really interesting episode John! Superb job of filleting what looked like a tricky fish. Cooking segment the perfect follow up.
Thank you very much Jay. 😊
I never imagined "Ling parasites" would be in my search history.
Though I imagine it will be easier to explain to the wife. 😉
Almaco Jack's have them in plenty too. They are a great fighting fish but the ones I cleaned were wasted from midway back to tail. That might have been because we were catching them in the warm Gulf of Mexico out of Venice, Louisiana, around the oil platforms though.
@@mstrdiver Well, I'm in Houston so that's something I'll look out for. Never seen them in snapper or bullish, at least. Must be primarily larger fish.
What a team. Great job by both of you!
Glad you liked it!
Wow! my mouth was watering. That looks lovely.
Thank you 😋
great content john cheered me up
Thank you I am glad you enjoyed it! 👍
Very informative video John, I've never heard of Ling in South Australia & 'hats off' to Hannah in the preparation & cooking. It looked absolutely delicious. Cheers, Don from South Aust
Thanks Don, take it easy mate. 👍🏻
Great watch, thanks to both of you!
Glad you enjoyed it! 👍
very satisfying to watch! quality content! 😊
That is a very well done piece of fillet! So satisfying
Thank you very much. I hope the demonstration helps folks out. 😊
It's beautifully to see you guys having fun
Thank you, just sharing what we love 👍
I like your honesty about the worms (when I told my wife and son that the cod I catch sometimes has worms in it, they took a lot of persuading to keep eating it)!.
All fish have some sort of parasite even the ones you buy in the shops I expect they have eaten them plenty of times 👍
Nice done John, and good cooking from Hannah! Personally i would use some madras curry powder and in stead of the cream i use coconut milk, but as i said this is personal taste!!🐟👍🏻
👍
Excellent vid, the fish curry looked amazing.
It was! Thanks Tony 👍
The Filleting video and this cooking video once again very imformative, thank you both
Glad you enjoyed it Michael 👍

That's awesome hope you guys have some good sessions 👍👍
Great video John as usual. Hoping the weather improves so we can get out fishing.
I hope so too!
If ya haven't before, and you can find one to borrow, try a Deba knife. Totally different than a fillet knife but work absolutely amazing. Especially, but not limited to, large fish like that.
That curry looked amazing. Sittin here eating fried chicken and potatoes, I would have happily traded. lol
I shall have a look for one of those. I had left my usual filleting knife on the boat by accident.
Nice 1 m8 as always. Always enjoy watchn ya fishn culture. Mad respect!
My pleasure Richard, take care mate. 😉👍🏻
Great video mate! Keep it up!
Thanks, will do!
That has to be the best vid I have seen of removing bones from a fish 👍
Have you seen our other filleting tutorial video? That one really is a master class. Its tagged in the description.😉👍🏻
Just stumbled upon this, watched your other vids too, really enjoyed them, well done you two 👍
Thank you Michael. 😊
Nice fish that pal. I worked at a fish factory for 16 years. I enjoyed filleting ling real thick meaty fish. You did well mate. My knife was a boning knife solid blade. Couldn't use the knife you used to thin. But every1 is different mate. You tired working the knife up the fillet instead of down pal. A lot easier. Anyway enjoyed your video well done to your wife the curry looked lovely.
Thanks for watching John 👍👍
The fish curry looks great!
Thank you 😋
Looks amazing!
It was!
Looked delicious and fish curry is amazing it is my fav type of curry.
