Hi, could you give me some advice on how to make off-white render. My client has requested me to do the render in an off-white colour is it possible or we have to repaint it.
How is it a mistake? Perhaps they've owned the house for a long time and were ready for something new, ever think of that? And really, it's probably going to look better than it did.
You better give him the full lime story as he probably thinks NHL 5 is the ancient non hydraulic lime rather than the natural hydraulic lime@@richardgrimbleby7853
Not good, but it could be the customer directed that - sort of thing I used advise on and leave to them to decide (I'm not a cable guy or an electrician). If it is electric, then it is a bad decision.
Ocr is the base coat for the colour render never seen someone use it as the finished product on a other note keep your tools clean when using cause this stuff will destroy your tools if you leave it on to long its really sticky stuff
Why not just dust off and dampen the wall before laying on the scratch coat ? I have never seen anyone use a primer for that stuff. Ive seen them use sbr for s&c rendering but thats it.
Does rendering have any bad side effects ? Like drainage or airflow ? As you can guess I’m a complete airbrain , my house badly need repointing as a lot of the like mortar is become flakey and I was looking into rendering rather than repointing ….. trying to get as much info as possible.
Nice to see that some new materials are made for multiple purposes. Seems like you know how it's supposed to be applied. I like your wavey scratch lines, most guys just scratch straight. But we know that there is a reason for the waves, which keeps the double coat ridged and secure. I haven't seen too many guys that have a traditional style ,and you have that style. Nice to see a real plaster man. Great video. I AM PLASTERER😎 1963
@richardgrimbleby7853 There is an important reason for waves. I've never had any problems with water in the waves. If a wall is too wet,we wait. But normally, if a scratch coat is too dry, we may spray the wall. It will make the double coat more workable.. I have never used straight scratch lines. They are not functional, and they don't look nice. Every step has to look good for everyone to see, even the scratch coat. If I showed you, you would understand? Hi Great demo can you re cement over a cemented wall? In ok condition but 30 year old needs a refresh would you have to take the cement off before rendering?
From what I know about Weber, you should be able to top coat it now. Just make sure your surface is clean and I would suggest dampening it so the top coat can stick better. I'm no expert, though! Rather double-check!
It’s definitely something that you can learn. But it’s totally different to skimming - there’s a lot more to it. With practice you’ll learn but it’s not as easy as Plastering in my opinion
is i expensive, and would it be worth it for garden walls, that need making look nicer? - they probably need re pointing, would just chucking this over the whole lot save me doing that? looking for a 'lazy' solution, tbh.
This should have had mesh in it, plus there was no reason to use that stop bead on that centreline, as a good rendering gang can easily work quickly enough to cover each lift without it going off too quickly. That bead would piss me off to look at
It is a lot more expensive to be fair. It’s probably 40% more expensive. However, I feel you make your money back with time saved. I wouldn’t go back to S/C now though 👍
I was asked to build a mansion for a billionaire. It was in the middle of nowhere, I'm talking the countryside. About 12 hours drive to the site. It was almost off grid. Most of my clients are high, so they want the best. And I work to a very high standard and give them the best.. and to to this day I have never had a single complaint, and I've been doing this work for over 35 years. Anyway I got all the foundations done and prepped everything ready for the build, got all the materials delivered for the whole build. My plan was that once I got on site I would stay there until I finished. There was a temporary Porta cabin, etc etc. I was going to start on a Sunday morning. So I turns up to the site.. only to realise I had left my tool bag at home. It contained most of my building tools. I contemplated driving back to pick them up but it would mean I would lose a day. And seeing as though I planned to finish the whole project off in 2 weeks, I couldn't leave. So I took out my flask, and poured myself a cuppa, and had my sandwich, cheese and pickle it was. Whilst eating, I thought of many ways to get around the problem. Then it hit me. I may have forgotten my tool bag, but I had other things I could use. I looked around and found a tablespoon, a Butter knife, a fork, toothbrush, scissors. I soon got to work. Got really stuck in. I ended up building the whole house, completely inside and out. Using the above mentioned utensils. Mixed cement, Plaster with the spoon for eg. Plastered and did the brickwork with the knife.. Painted with the toothbrush... Etc etc. The work was done to a very high standard as per usual. The customer was so pleased with the quality of workmanship, they gave me an extra million quid. I completed it in 2 weeks.
Why would anyone have their brick covered. Now, they will need to maintain it every 7 years or so. If anything, you should have just had the house brick pointed. You'd be good until the end of dsys.... Bad mistake there.....
Watch the full video from this link here. We’ll show you the full process on using this render, Webber OCR

Can you please do a new video I’ve watch all of your and get bored of rewatching them 😂
Hi, what maximum span would you render with ocr without an expansion bead? Thanks
Hi, could you give me some advice on how to make off-white render. My client has requested me to do the render in an off-white colour is it possible or we have to repaint it.
Did you have to wet the wall first and I didn't see you use mesh in the base coat??
I'm a 3rd generation plasterer. Been stuccoing and Plastering for 25 years. I'd love to try this product. You guys know your stuff
Fair play to you mate. Respect!! Thanks for watching 👍

Hi, is Webber always a sponge float finish? I worked with a plasterer once and he waited for it to go like K rend then scratch it back ??
What a mistake covering that good brickwork
How is it a mistake? Perhaps they've owned the house for a long time and were ready for something new, ever think of that? And really, it's probably going to look better than it did.
1 word... DAMP!
Lmao, That basic brick and Brickwork is horrible
American when they see brick work and thinks it's exotic
@@iiern8render is boring and ugly, there are much better ways to add character to a property
Covered brick?
Why does it hurt my heart to watch him cover the bricks with cement..?! 😢😅
Where is the mesh?
I used this acrylic pre mix straight onto primer on my block fence, just did 1 coat and used that dulux render paint over it, worked a charm
It's new for UK, but it's already used for ages in Europe. Great finishing product.
Looks like a creamy mix that’s how I do my lime render on listed buildings when it states 9 - 1 - 1 scratch coat lovely to use
That still sounds like a cement/hydrated lime ratio you would be better with nhl because it can breath
You better give him the full lime story as he probably thinks NHL 5 is the ancient non hydraulic lime rather than the natural hydraulic lime@@richardgrimbleby7853
He buried the cable in the wall....didnt he? It so good to see people take pride in their work.
Not good, but it could be the customer directed that - sort of thing I used advise on and leave to them to decide (I'm not a cable guy or an electrician). If it is electric, then it is a bad decision.

Why is the effect In a very hot climate how fast does the wall sucks the water contents
Looks amazing very professional finish 👍
outside wall. are there two coat, the first is cement and the second is stucco ? i don't know that is right, bro ?
Weber won’t and don’t spec Pva . The correct method is to use Weber rend aid then top coat in ocr
It’s not PVA pal. It’s Exterior Pregrit…a primer used for Rendering 👍
I would’ve used a render mesh in the scratch, especially on a south facing gable. Each to their own. Good looking product.
I thought the same 👍
Ocr is the base coat for the colour render never seen someone use it as the finished product on a other note keep your tools clean when using cause this stuff will destroy your tools if you leave it on to long its really sticky stuff
Your wrong my friend. OCR can be decorated
Why plaster that beautiful brick
People like paying people to paint their rendered house.
I was thinking exactly this
Madness!
brick houses are very common in the UK, render and paint is a more modern and appealing look
@@RedAndYellacuddlyFella man it still sounds crazy, unit price of that brick + its labour is more expensive than that mortar + labour.
Why not just dust off and dampen the wall before laying on the scratch coat ?
I have never seen anyone use a primer for that stuff. Ive seen them use sbr for s&c rendering but thats it.
I’ve never put pva on an outside wall but probably used a brush to get it in the mortar joints as well

Webber is definitely an easier process to sand an cement but a lot more messy in my opinion
Looks like colourful monocouche
Nice to see that some new materials are made for multiple purposes.

If your using a cement render your better with straight scratch if it rains water gathers in the bottom of the wave 👍
Ps ime a plasterer born 1963

Hi

Looks proper my bute, is it similar to johnstones bagged render?
It’s good stuff mate 👍👍
Thank you
Is it possible to top coat weber render that was scratch coated a long time ago? Or would I have to take it back to brick and start the process again?
From what I know about Weber, you should be able to top coat it now. Just make sure your surface is clean and I would suggest dampening it so the top coat can stick better. I'm no expert, though! Rather double-check!
It looks good anyway 👍
U not putting mesh over the facing brick ? Any render i do atall i always put mesh never take a chance
I agree on brick work most defiantly.. And other backgrounds.. but I know many who just do stress points like around windows and over the bead profile
mesh weakens the brick bond, strongest bond is mechanical to the brick, mesh is appropriate for non brick applications
I recently bought a float sponge .. just wanted to ask you .. do you soak the sponge as normal or just hit the wall with it
I'm not a plasterer by trade, but can get a very good finish when skimming. As such, do you think I could turn my hand to rendering 🤔👍
It’s definitely something that you can learn. But it’s totally different to skimming - there’s a lot more to it. With practice you’ll learn but it’s not as easy as Plastering in my opinion
That would look good on basement walls
Can i use this to patch in monocouche,? If so how would you create that monocouche finish? Thanks in advance👍
Good job bro my job same
Cheers pal!
Would you need to use pre grip if you were rendering block work?
I would, I prime everything gives you peace of mind
Can you do this over pebble dash?
Can you use sbr on blocks first..can you paint over it
.
What is the product please?
How do you find the power float compared to manual
When do you need to you mesh? Or don’t have to use it?
Over wood you would put paper then mesh/lathe the last couple times I did stucco over wood it had paper then a corrugated plastic then the metal lathe
Why "render" / "plaster" over those beautiful brick work...! Its a travesty...!
What is that green polisher you are using i am in america.
Are you not supposed to put mesh in the base coat with this system??
Could you use this stuff for roughcast?
No texture?
Can you napp the finish coat??
Did you use an afro comb to scrap it 😂 remind me to never leave that around your Trades 😂
It's it breathable this product,
Doesn't OCR stand for One Coat Render? Why do 2 coats?
Why didn’t you show us how it looked when it dried out LOL
Can you use thin set
Nice
Thank you matey!
Looks good. Do Weber not spec mesh with it?
Do you need render mesh?
No, you don't need mesh, that's not like sand/cement.
Do you use the same product for the scratch coat and top coat ?
Or is it a base coat first ?
Same product mate - Webber OCR
@@PlasteringForBeginners how long do you leave in between coats and what is the square meter age of a bag?
WHY would Anyone WANT to cover-up that lovely looking brick for in the first place ???
Agree. You open up the potential for problems (damp) and create a new maintenance issue.
Fair play lads I’d be jumping off that scaffold after 3000 attempts to get it flat and smooth 😅

Don't need.
You need to use Sto 😃

It stops there. He didn’t want the full gable end Rendering - it’s split in half 👍
What was the green circular machine matey?
It's called a Power Float. They cost about £360. Remember...if you can afford the float you can afford some mesh! 😂 🤦🏼♀️
No need to scratch when doing a second coat on wet the same day
What a good idea 😂
