COOL-The fact you can actually buy the Scout kit from Attack on Titan is great, but the little cat character from Monster Hunter that is unique to Universal is the true winner.

Cool! I love seeing how excited you are to the merch. So very clever and well designed. My favorite items were the Luna Cat purse and key chain. I am not really into Sailor Moon but I appreciate a cute black cat with an upturned crescent moon symbol on its forehead!

Took me a second to remember but OMG the conan watch has the bullseye that he always uses to drug his uncle, that's such a cool detail!
The purple color matching merchandise from Detective Conan and the blind box Sailormoon bracelets are so COOL~ I'm really tempted! There were so many people when I visited so I didn't get to visit the Cool Japan area in Universal Studios.
There's so much colour coordination, I love it.

Few questions
1. Are the earrings/ jewelry good quality? Like will your fingers and ear turn green and itch
2. Can you buy universal studio merch online? Does this apply to limited time items as well?
I remember reading on your blog about Tokyo disney merch and was wondering if universal did the same.
3. If there is extra limited time/exclusive merch, what do they do with it?
I'd imagine they're decent quality, but I can't speak to it since I don't wear it (maybe someone else here can). You can buy some USJ merchandise online but not the Cool Japan stuff (it also only ships within Japan; you'll need to use a proxy shipper): www.onlinestore.usj.co.jp/
As for what they do with the merch afterwards, good question. Some get discounted, but then it just disappears.
I wish Artemis was in the Sailor Moon merch!! But I would get the Sailor Venus merch since she's super cool! Also all the AOT stuff looks amazing!! ^^
Favorite Cool Japan items were the AOT though I have many AOT merchandise already. also thanks for the info on how to convert the Yen to USD because I plan on going to Japan someday.

Do Japanese people ever ask you what you’re doing or who you’re talking to as you show us the merch?
I really feel like Universal Studios (in general) underperforms on their potential!
Maybe this idea is just too expensive (for comcast? Yeah, right!) They make this "Cool Japan" thing be a temporary event when it should be a real park feature or land inside the Park. (Possibly even expanded to all their parks) It could feature rides, costumed characters, and everything!
I mean, first off with Attack on Titan, that could make an Amazing Horror coaster! The ride could have you harnessed in speeding in and out around prop buildings and trees, potentially even though some of the actual structures as you dodge, twist, and loop around Titans popping out from several places, giving a handful of jump scares per ride. I imagine the secondary park features could be an Attack on Titan store that lets you buy merch and officially licensed costume pieces to let you look like you are in the survey corps, and they can have a link also to a VR ride that allows you to fight the titans back with the sensation that you are flying around fighting as a team with other riders to take on titans in your ODM gear. They could save your score and print it on like a fake war metal to give players, and even keep the scores, maybe even the photos of the best players in the lobby of the ride or area, as well as the horror coaster could also sell you commemorative photos of your group on the ride like some rides do.
I think with Sailor Moon, you could do something like Disney's Princess castle, where they dress you up and do your make-up and hair, except use wigs and extensions to dress you up like your own unique Sailor Scout. Rather than be based on a Planet or The Moon, instead using your information on your birthday (and/or blood type) an AI will match you to a Star in your Star-sign constellation or in rarer cases a moon of one of the planets in the solar system (besides earth) then you can pick your color dress or suit pants, and the person gets to work getting your transformation ready, while concluding by using the star sign they gave you to match you with a "Sailor Wand" that can react to places in the park. One of those places could be a ride where you fight monsters similar to the Toy Story Ride, as it goes through a narrative of a Sailor Moon adventure in a carted adventure, then at the end of the ride, Sailor Moon joins you and you have to join in and pose with her to defeat the main villain. (You are given a generic rental Wand if you don't want to do the Sailor Scout Transformation salon) They can take your photo on that ride, they can take your photo at the changing place. There also could be a stage show where audience participation with the magic wand can change the outcome of the story. Of course it also would have a shop and a cafe with Sailor Moon themed food and drink items.
With Hunter X Hunter you could theme the area to maybe getting a provisional Hunter Exam license. Maybe it can have 5 parts to it, an intelligence part where you solve a Funhouse Maze (that can randomize some parts) that features some quizzes and riddles in it as obstacles. There can be a Ninja Warrior/ Sasuke's Castle/ Wipe Out style aquatic obstacle course/ playground with challenges for different skill levels to get a "Physical" certification on the License. There can be one of those old-fashioned kind of magician's parlor or trick rooms to give you "Nen" certification and give you one of the selected powers that goes into a VR arcade ride that you play to prove your proficiency. There would be a store for this section as well that allows you to print your own laminated Hunter Card with your photo on it. When you pass one of the test, you are given a sticker for passing, (while the nen-based on also has information on your Nen-type embedded into it) you can take it to the other games to take on harder challenges increasing your hunter points (maybe they are tied to an app). You can also use your card in the last attraction, which is the Hunter's Arcade, which has VR booths to take maybe 16-24 players at a time to have them participate in competitive VR games. They can form teams or go solo and compete for missions on the "virtual greed island". They can buy Greed Island Cards from the gift shop, letting you scan in upto 5 cards to assist you per game on the Hunter's Arcade, as the cards themselves come in packs of 5, and you can win them in the Arcade. I think in the future it would be great if this ride could function online and connect you to other parks (but the time zone delay might keep that from ever working), The Arcade would be the main attraction, you could also watch the games going on of all the players in the food court. (I also imagine that for the game, when you make your License card it would do a 3D scan of yourself to put in the game, even though it shows only the face on the card, and players are allowed to design their costume and augment their looks before printing it, which also would be used in their game. There would be a fee for first time printing a license, printing a record of your license (maybe recovered by your smart phone app), and if you want to retake your picture for printing a new card.
Finally with Detective Conan, I imagine you could take one of those small roller coasters, Disney's Haunted Mansion, and Escape Rooms and combine them to create a ride that haves you work with Conan to solve a mystery during your ride. Elements would be randomized for each group rider as you progress through a big covered building of set pieces. You find the "missing" Ride Operator murdered at the start and follow the clues as you chase down a mysterious suspect. Every so often, the ride will stop briefly and Conan will take you to a place where you can vote for an answer on your ride car, the more of these sections you get right, the better it is for your chance that you get to catch the criminal and then see the right ending to the ride. I think it could use Mario Kart-styled Augmented headsets to let you see characters and possibly even interact with clues and things.
I dunno, I feel like there is always a lot of potential for these sorts of things at Universal and they don't do them, this is even before saying they should try to also get an IP like Dragon Ball, Naruto, or One Piece to add to the park (Let alone their own IP, I really think there should be a How to Train Your Dragon land). I can't speak to the long term popularity of something like Attack On Titan, but Universal Studios has rides Jaws where the movie will forever be iconic, but the IP means nothing really today, and I see at worst, that is the future for Attack on Titan... where similar to Jaws, the ride itself adds to the popularity of the IP 10-20 something years later.
