Being happy does not always mean being without hardship. Sometimes it means just the opposite. That principle is brought to life in this story of a young husband who is only able to make it home safely after his load grows much heavier.
Elder David A. Bednar told the story in his general conference address “Bear Up Their Burdens with Ease.” A man became stranded in the mountains when his truck got stuck in the snow. It was only after he filled the truck bed with wood that he was able to escape.
“It was the load of wood that provided the traction necessary for him to get out of the snow, to get back on the road, and to move forward,” Elder Bednar explains.
When we face large or small challenges in life, we can take comfort in the truth that such experiences will build our strength and bring us closer to God.
“Sometimes we mistakenly may believe that happiness is the absence of a load. But bearing a load is a necessary and essential part of the plan of happiness,” Elder Bednar says.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
I am a Christian, not a Mormon, but i love this channel and its messages. God Bless
I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (previously called Mormons)
We are also Christians as you can see by the real name of the church 😊
Mormons are also Christians mate
Matthew, if you are still out there, please invite the missionaries to share the gospel with you and your family. You will come to know Jesus like you never imagined possible and the Sisters or Elders will become like sister or brothers to you, or, if you're older, like daughters or sons. You will come to love them. They will be emissaries of Christ like attributes to bring peace and warmth into your home.May our Heavenly Fathers blessings be yours, Matthew, in your homeward journey!

Elder Bednar ❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️
I'm not religious and I've always kind of looked down on Mormons. Obviously, upon reflection, looking down on anyone is not good, and is more about the person doing the looking than the person being looked down upon. But what a great message this video is trying to convey. The heavier the load, the stronger the person. It is only through carrying a heavy load that you can endure the pain and suffering necessary to develop the strength to carry it.
My sister passed away when I was 22. I often ask myself if I would be the person I am today without having lost her. I learned so much from her loss. I learned so much about myself and of the world. My sister always said that the existence of nuclear weapons and the fact that we are still here, acting in tandem, is a miracle and proof that God exists.
Anyway, this is a great lesson and I admire the Church for trying to communicate this message. I miss my sister. But I also learn from her every day. The load is heavy, but I have or maybe I have been given the strength to carry it. Perhaps I will open myself up to the possibility that she was right. She was a genius after all.
I was just skimming the comments and I’m glad I stopped to read yours. What your sister said about the nuclear question and the fact that we’re still here, I honestly hadn’t thought of that before. To me, it makes perfect sense though!
I’m sorry for your loss. You obviously loved your sister very much and I’m sure you think of her often. My mother passed away a few years ago. Well, actually, it was 5 years and 5 days ago, exactly. We were very close and not a day goes by that I don’t have a fond memory or ponder something she taught me (or did her best to teach me). I know that we’ll be with our loved ones again though. Sometimes I struggle with my faith but when it comes to the afterlife, that’s something I’ve never doubted. Kind of a blessing, I guess. Thanks much for sharing and may God bless.
I needed this today!! So true. Thank you Heavenly Father.
Who is watching this in 2020 during COVID-19 every one?😇😇

True 2021
I'm watching it in Sept, 2022
Still waiting for life to get back to normal 🙃
Hope is never lost and we are never alone. Our Father in Heaven is always there for us!

Praise the lord for so many blessings!!!😊☺️😄

Truly said, Thanks
So awesome
Anyone else have a rough day? The story in this video is simple and perfect for lifting someone up. :)
Yes! I am having a bad bad day.
I love this. This is amazing. You are awesome.
I was having a rough day and watching this video has uplifted me, I am in tears as I write this message. thank you Mormon Channel for this video!

Same as I do
@@thebigjaxon1757 qy that's a pretty good show me m
Another moral of the story is to be prepared. When I went into the forest to cut firewood I always carried tire chains and if I went in winter I carried a shovel.
👍
God is with us no matter the situation, that we may always remember him in all things in all times and in all places .😆 "Rockhill's"
My grandpa had one of those truckS and I had dreamt of he teaching me how to drive it. Now I saw this and it makes sense, for he also taught me about faith, and gave me his testimony on the power of prayer to the Lord. The day of his passing was the day I saw an angel and a couple days later I met with that angel and started to know more about Jesus Christ and his Church.
Amazing never give up faith and never give up hope and never stop praying🙏🏻.
The hardest thing is to recognize that burdens are essential for our happiness while we are facing them. I am glad we have Prophets and Apostles to remind us of this truth and these videos to gain the eternal picture to continue walking forward in life without giving up.
Samuel Patha ike
True :)
This has given me so much strength as I have to embark on a new journey in life with health issues; practice faith and humility as I watch my aging parents slowly drift away! What a blessing indeed to have the gospel in my life!
This analogy helps me remember why life is hard at times. I know that life was never meant to be easy, we were sent here to earth to learn and to grow. It's true that life might be easier without a load but we would be missing out our potential. We truly are capable of so much more.
It reminds me of the time my carburetor dis-assembled one winter morning about 5 miles from civilization and 150 from home. At the time, I knew nothing about why the car had quit running nor how to solve the issue. A guy came by in a Telephone service truck and stopped to help. He had the knowledge, materials and tools to pretty much rebuilt the carb in about 15 minutes and we were on our way. Blessings...you never know how the Lord will answer your prayers. Thank you again dear Father.
This is such a wonderful story. Thank you, Elder Bednar! 😄😍😇
Mormons are Christians too by the way. Only the proper name is Latter-day Saints. I was not born and raised LDS but rather am a convert from another Christian faith. Its because of this that I have a far greater appreciation for this Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints than most lifetime members I know.
I love my Heavenly Father and His son Jesuschrist and I admire and respect the leaders of my church for always bringing uplifting messages in the real sense of truth
I loved this, reminded me of the lyrics, "Does the load seem heavy you are called to bear? Count your blessings"
I'm glad we can have these videos, these messages from our lord, to keep our spirits strong, and help us to better understand his plan, and his love for us.
@5:35 this resonated too much with me. Indeed, there are still blessings in those really hard times. I have learned, that even though no one came.. or rather ESPECIALLY because no one came.. the only line of defense I had in the darkest moments of my life was the Savior Jesus Christ. What a wonderful lesson and strength to my Faith that the Savior is always there. He will always uphold you, and He will never give up on you or let you give up on yourself.
every time i watch this its like something new
This is a message for the world as we each need uplifted from time to time.
Something I have learned is, I do not have to do this alone. Our Father in Heaven and Our Brother Jesus Christ always have their hands held out and when I am struggling, I can humble myself and ask for help, because I do not have to do it alone.
Beautiful movie we all go thru this in life but with the grace of God we could pull thru any problems we face God bless everyone's that's hearing this beautiful message I love you God with all my heart and soul thank you thank you thank you 💖💙🎇✨🎆🙏
Thank you for this video reminder of His tender graces 🙏🏻
Thank you for sharing these beautiful videos. God bless you all.
I love the truck and that is why I enjoy watching this
I loved this video that really talks to me. I love the inspiration and encouragement that radiate from amazing stories like this that help me through times of distress when I am lost or stuck. Heavenly truly does always answer our prayer; however, they might not always be answered in the most obvious way. I will never give up on God, and God will never give up on me. I love you guys
❤❤❤
Chevy's they are always gettin stuck! Haha. But really I loved this inspiring message! May we all bear our burdens with hope on the Atonement!
!, lp op 8.
Only because Ford's don't dare get off of the pavement.😉
God helped me when i needed him.. Im living PROOF.. Never give UP.. Cause someone is looking after you.. Rejoice.. Rest assured
This message is what I need today. I will always bear my burdens with hope!!!
I have watched this multiple times and the words of Elder Bednar about bearing our load with the be Savior really really stuck out to me today.
I love the lesson this teaches.
My struggles helped me shift my focus from void to fulfillment. True satisfaction in Jesus Christ. That is not gonna be taken away eternally. Thx my Lord.
Recognizing, admitting, and appreciating that I had been able to get out of trouble because of those burdens is another challenge. But yes, heavenly help is there. It's there, it's there.
I so appreciate your lessons, and appreciate your examples showing how to live the gospel even more. Thank you.
Awesome truck / parable
I love that he keeps trying.🤞🏼😘😘❤️💔
Thank you Elder Bednar for your wise and inspired counsel.
Our heaven father is so awesome we just have to remember never to give up on our faith. Such a beautiful short story.
Inspirational? Most definitely. God bless everyone!
This helped me start Father's Day off on the right foot. These things that look like burdens and problems, I need to see them in a new light, as the means to my own salvation.
I learn that some time in life we feel we stuck in life and sometime we want are should I say I want to carry all my burden on my own. That sometime you forget that heavenly father tells us he will never leave us nor forsake us. That some when we feel like we are all alone and that they no one there to for us or that we are all alone with our load and burden. Be in tear in watching this video I love that the atoning sanctifies that My Savior done for me. That because of him He has already taken that load off my shoulders only if I just keep having faith in him. I learn that I can't have hope without hope in His goodness and love for me.
Praise the Lord! Amen!
Love u Lord for taking our burden n making free to us
Kelly McGonigal's TED talk "How to make stress your friend" is also a great insight into the topic of stress, and can be correlated to the gospel.
I think it was very cool how he listened to the spirit and went and got wood so that it would provide traction. I am glad that we can also go to church so we can learn about how we can listen to the promptings of the spirit and also about other good things so we can live with god again.
I think all of us face are own trials in life but god will always answer are prayers may come in different forms, however he will always give us inspiration to fix are trials.
Thank you 🙏
I am blessed with Spiritual traction to move ahead .. Amen
wow. He had a lot of faith when that happened. Thank u Mormon Channel for inspiring others to have faith!
Thank you for this video.
Brilliant teaching videos & Family time movie night viewing.
Great video. I also love the finely restored 1971 Chevy K/20 truck.
Todd S
smashing truck
I watched this years ago, and I received a different message from my perspective. Please let me explain, in my life I had done a lot of sinning, but I did not show faith in Jesus Christ. So the weight of those sins were weighed down heavy upon me, I ain't glad that I had sinned and I was not happy because of my guilt but because there was no other way out I turned to God and He helped me.
The traction I needed was eventually coming to a determination of knowing there was no other way out.
AMEN!
Man that old V8 sounds really good.
Wow, what a fantastic message about carrying our own load to get the full benefits of the Plan of Happiness.
Yeah....cause we were never asked to help bear he another's burdens.....were we!!!!
I love this message! It came right on time, too
i always wacth old vids but never give up
As soon as I saw the man and his truck, I recalled the Elder Bednar talk. :-)
Mmm
Hjh00k
I felt this, nearly wept. Thank you
This video is amazing!!!❤️❤️😂
Thank you Lord
Heavenly Father doesn't always answer our prayers in the way we think He will. But He does. "After all we can do...."
That's a sweet truck.
As soon as the truck got stuck I knew by loading his truck with wood would increase his probability of getting out, however spiritual traction can only come from thinking for ourselves in Christ & importantly acting appropriately on those thoughts, apposed to waiting for God to do the thinking for us expecting a miracle, for it is we are the ones who we're waiting for.
The video wasn't illustrating an ideal for us to follow. The point of the video wasn't that we should go mindlessly through life waiting for God to make good things happen. The moral of the story was that IF you find yourself in the situation that man did, bear it patiently and continue steady-on forward with the work ahead of you and bearing the burden you have been called to bear. Is it wisdom to think, to be aware, to try your very best to solve your own problems at the same time that you trust in God and have faith that everything will work out? You bet it is! But you shouldn't imply that the video gave an incorrect message. Your comment was true, but it wasn't a valid rebuttal to the video because the purpose of the video wasn't the message you rebutted. All the same, thanks for thinking proactively and taking responsibility for the outcomes in your life. We need more people like that.
This video was so inspiring to me at this time in my life! My gratitude is overflowing❤ Thank you!
Excellent. So grateful for comforting and instructive messages.
Amazing ! I loved it ! God bless to whoever put this togheter !
Woo I'm not momon, but,I inspired by this movie. GBU.
It's ironic how much this video speaks to me. I'm always finding myself in situations that I unable to fix. I live alone. No friends. No families. I have a lot of health problems. I find myself falling after becoming conscious, not knowing what happened, not knowing how to untangle myself, get up to my bed, wipe off the blood, etc. Without the constant prayers to my Heavenly Father, I would be lost. Thank you for this video that shows others the way to fix what is wrong. God listens and gives us the answers.
This story is actually my mission president from the Wisconsin Milwaukee Mission, Robert and Estella Wilkes. I'm assuming Elder Bednar knew them because Robert was a teacher at Ricks.
vampov Byu Idaho now
That's awesome!
@@joshjensen6509 Yup Robet Wilkes taught at Ricks College not BYU Idaho
I used to drive a Chevy pickup almost identical to that as a teenager (it was a blue '72 4WD, 5.7L 350 engine), and all I could think was, "Dude - there's no way that truck would get stuck like that." It's a great object lesson, though, about the value of spiritual weight - while giving you a practical lesson in what to do in the ice + snow. :)
Amen Lord
This story highlights the ill-preparedness of this person…the Lord will help us “better” when we prepare ourselves for life’s challenges.
As a Minnesotan, I can tell you this man is a fool.
I love this channel and its messages.
As we go through life, we will encounter burdens and sorrow. Jesus will remove your heavy burden of guilt and hopelessness and give you true rest in life. For He said for my yoke is easy and My burden is light.
how beautiful!
Thank you very much for this video =).
Lovely video, also a friendly reminder to keep a shovel in your truck 😀
Why am I crying is this real

Now that is wisdom
I don’t have any words to say but this is one of my most favorite videos. It is dead on to the point and there are many trials where our faith is put to test. It is up to us to maintain and keep our faith on our Heavenly Father.
Amazing video!
i love it
Wow...just beautiful. Thank you
Amen!
Excellent!!
That's very helpful and informative video.. God bless u the producers actors and all involved in this short film......
Thanks! We're glad you appreciated the video.
Thanks for this channel. God bless!
I love the fact that whoever made this video, was inspired to name the dog Shiloh. Read Genesis 49:10.
The guy was asking Heavenly Father all along for help, and was with the best help all time. You and I have access to Shiloh's power all long.
Best regards!
Old mate there didn't just park his butt and cry until someone came along to do everything for him. He used the resources available to him. Placed doggo to look for cars. Kept himself warm with gathering the wood. Consumed the lunch his Mrs gave him. Paced himself with his efforts. And when his ute was all loaded up, he tried the ignition again.
His efforts during his time of crisis gave his ute the support it needed to get traction needed to leave the area.
Great example of putting your shoulder to the wheel 👍🏿
It was the heavy load that helped him to get back home
These words are truth to all these videos or my gain of life
I know we hate them but the hard experiences are the best teachers
God said he would never leave or forsake us Jesus is always the only answer he might not come when we want him to but he is always on time keep the faith and trust in God 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 pray without ceasing In God we trust God blesses us all!!!!!
You have a cool message but remember it's about the load we carry the heavy load helped him to get back home
AMEM AMEM AMEM
I love this video. So timely for my current struggles. Where did you get that truck (70's)? Looks like it came off new from the showroom (loved the music you played on the radio - really put me back in time.) The whole thing was so well done.
That truck looked amazingly like the one I learned to drive growing up, down to the stickers on the back windshield. Tears of joy for those memories.
The one that made me cry was the dog
I was worried about his white fur and drivers wouldn’t see him on the snowy road!
Such an uplifting video! :) it's filmed in a place I visit, Island Park, Idaho!
