None of us know the situation but evidently it worked for all involved so who cares!
it would have taken him years to sell everything. and until he sold all the cars and parts he wouldnt have been able to sell the house. so for a buy it now deal he might have made less but he saved years worth of trouble and hassle trying to sell it all.
