No. Richard was collecting bicycles from the trash and fixing them as a kid, selling.
He started flipping cars at 14 before he had a licence.
He was a police officer and a volunteer firefighter.
He started a printing business with a loan from his first wife's 401K. Sold the business paid her back in full.
Started a Gas Monkey in the Fired Up Garage location.
Took a loan from his Sister Daphne and bought the current shop. Daphne owns fifty percent or more of the whole GMG empire not just the garage.
The merch, the licencing, the hotel event centre, all of it.
Richard bought the warehouse next door.
Richard kept his used car motor dealer permit.
Dennis is not in the same buisness.

Black Mountain equipment aftermarket. Restoration of classic Jeeps and sports cars. Because of the service shop Dennis could stay open during Covid.

In 1998 I was 17 years old when I purchased a cortez silver 70 Chevelle SS LS6 4 speed for $5000. I purchased it from the father of a girl I went to school with. Her father needed money to catch up the property taxes on their home and selling the car was the only option he had and he never intended to sell that car. He sold it to me for less than other offers he had because he knew where it was going and knew I would take care of it and he was helping me out since that was every penny I had.
Both got a steal , both watch out for each other , both legends , buying them with repeatedly certain success

Hmmm…. Richard just made $30,000 just by transporting ONE of the 3 cars. He profited $15,000 total, before taking out what he paid for employees fuel food etc on the entire trip to go get those vehicles. Time is money especially in a business. But he made such a decent return on investment already without having to touch that split window coupe Vette.

No one ever orders it at Meribo but switching to white sauce on the pepperoni pizza kicks it up to level 11. It’s definitely my favorite pizza in town.
I love their relationship, genuinely best friends and one of the few people I’m sure Dennis would basically buy something sight unseen from.

Friend bought a house with a pile of 63 split window Corvette parts. They are in storage and he is wanting to sell. Rear window trim is supposedly all there along with seats and other parts.

Yeah but 5k then, isn't what 5k is today. 5k in 1990 is 12k of today's money. Still a lot cheaper than 35k lol but don't feel as bad.
@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism , I agree with you on that one. I still kick myself in the butt for passing on a 1966 big block coupe that had it's engine and hood stolen. Everything else was there and in perfect condition. It was Nassau blue poly with matching interior. Asking price was 6k. The other was a '67 427 Coupe with a front end hit. No frame damage, just fiberglass nose. Guy wanted 8k for it. Like I said late '80's, early '90's when I passed on them.

Crazy that Richard got the car for $5K and crazier that Dennis shelled out $35k for it! My dad bought an all original '63 SWC fuelie, sebring silver with saddle leather interior in 1998 for $30k! Still has it, running like a top in near mint condition. Dream car!
