    You should look into the 2020+ explorer hybrids. They have an ac compressor that is not driven by the engine but by a electric motor. It looks just as simple electrically as the p/s pump.

    Have you been feeding that boy miracle grow? Looks like he’s grown a lot since the last time I saw him. I have seen where people have used an electric steering module from a Saturn for cobra kit cars. Don’t know if you know about that or not or if you considered it? It would do away with all hydraulics as it is an electric motor that adds assist to the steering column. I have a Foxbody engine set up in a 53 F100 and the power steering pump whined from day one. I bought some stuff at AutoZone that worked miracles on it. I don’t remember the name of it, but it is a two-part fluid and you mix the two parts together and pour it in the reservoir.

    Did this to my 86GT a couple of years ago to get rid of that ford whine. I love it. Haven't had any issues with it. You may want to put the exciter wire on a switch in the cabin though. Other wise the pump kicks on in about 3 seconds and it's pulling a lot of amps about the same time you turn the key to start the car. I had it wired to hot when key on (not hot while starting), but it still kept blowing my fuse on the battery box. Also, make sure you wire those leads to the battery. Otherwise that pump causes crazy lights blinking and engine surge. 😅 Found that out the hard way.

    Looking good. I went Summit Brand PTFE hose and various fitting for my power steering rerouting and found that Summit fittings only work with their hoses. One thing of note, I have a SN95 (98 GT) and also used the MM rack fittings but noticed when you were hooking up, you put the high pressure on the top fitting and the low pressure on the bottom when in fact, that should be reversed. Is your specific setup requiring you to flip it? I’d hate to see you blow the seals on that new rack.

    How many Amps, "continuous and peak", does it draw? They used to say the average PS pump stole approximately 5 HP pretty continuously. So what will your alternator have to produce now and how many more HP will that take??

    • @HOUSEOFDULA
      @HOUSEOFDULA  Před rokem

      Hey man. So I need to really rate it myself, I don't know unfortunately....Ive been told these need an 80AMP fuse, and can run between 7amps to 79amps depending on conditions and load, so you need a good efficient alternator for sure, especially if you have this and electric fans. HP comparison? Man Thats a great question, and one for someone with more skills and tools for myself. I dont thinks folks would do this mod for a HP gain per-se, but more like myself to free up engine bay real estate, or has a motor without a hydraulic pump. If I had to guess both setups would need about 5-7hp to spin, for an average power steering pump. So likely a wash HP wise, BUT that same 5-7hp would also provide electric t the vehicle and fans...whereas running both your using 5-7 each, for the alternator and the PS pump. Im willing to be the ford pump on these foxes uses more than 8hp as well.

    • @SteveP-vm1uc
      @SteveP-vm1uc Před rokem

      @@HOUSEOFDULA My line of thought is that it needing an 80 AMP fuse/breaker means it can get very close to drawing that much power normally. If not, I can't see the need for something that big!! Of course that could be a monster draw at lock. (We have all seen people who don't know better hang on the steering wheel hoping to make a turn rather than back up and not take a chance), so it could be for that reason, I just don't know enough about them.. A hydraulic pump will stall and slip the belt in most cases. I have seen them stall an engine while being, umm, less than intelligent!! lol.. I'd sure like to know what the typical draw is! So going from (simple numbers), a 60A to a 90A alternator means a lot more HP stolen from the engine. The big question is how many amps typical draw and for how long would that typically rise??
