  • Where the saxophone speaks: Maestro Kadri Gopalnath is an excellent album of Carnatic Music. This album of Kadri Gopalnath is a classic and soulful example of Carnatic Music Instrumental. Kadri Gopalnath was born on 6th December, 1948 in a humble family in Panemangalore, Karnataka. Maestro Kadri Gopalnath found himself exposed to music at a fairly early age being the son of Smt. Gangamma and Sri. Thaniyappaya who was a Nadhaswaram Vidwan himself. Gopalnath had to make certain modifications to the conventional alto saxophone to play Carnatic music. The maestro Kadri Gopalnath got so many distinctions such as Saxophone Charkravarthy, Saxophone Samrat, Ganakala Shree, Nadapasana Brahma, Sunada Prakashika, Nada Kalarathna, Nada Kalanidhi, Sangeetha Vadya Rathna, Karnataka Kalashree in 1996, and Vocational Excellency Award from the Rotary of Madras, Tamil Nadu State Award "Kalaimamani" and Karnataka Rajyotsava Award in 1998. He received an honorary doctorate from Bangalore University in 2004.
This compilation boasts of something rarer. Carnatic Music played by the maestro Kadri Gopalnath. This compilation has some popular renditions such as “Jaya Jaya Padmanabha”, “Raghu Nayaka” and “Biranavara”. Overall this is a beautiful compilation worthy of a connoisseur.

He came, did his hard work, became popular with his performances, played in ARR music composed movie "Duet", received Padma Shri award, performed in countless music events and then all of a sudden silently walked away from life.
We Mangaloreans and classical music lovers truly miss this legendary Carnatic Classical Saxophonist!

Miss the mesmerizing saxophone concerts of Shri Kadri Gopalnath jee, a very down to earth musician. Its always a pleasure to listen to his Saxophone. Innumerable times in Kadri temple and marriages held in Mangaluru in the initial years of his musical journey we have seen him playing saxophone. I am fortunate to attend some of his concerts held in various places later. After the concert held in Bharateeya Vidya bhavan was over, he had happily explained to few of us about his Saxophone which was shining like a jewel!
I had felt very sad upon hearing the news of his untimely demise. May his atma find Sadgati and Shanti! 💐🙏🌹🙏 He has left so much of wealth in the form of these videos for us 🙏🌹🙏💖
