- Newcastle United lost to Manchester City 1-0 at the Etihad yesterday. Here I give my thoughts on the match and why NUFC fans shouldn't overreact to this defeat but being frustrated by it is fine!

How did you feel about the NUFC performance yesterday?
We just played the best side in world football and it was tiny margins that determined the game.

Also Gorden can't finish its a problem
0-1 at Man City ? No shame in that result. I think the players defended well but couldn't get into their stride, maybe we sat off them a bit / showed too much respect which gave them confidence. There will be much better performances. The positive was keeping it compact after going that goal down and that we grew into the match, finishing strongly. Can we imagine looking at this result with disappointment only 18 months ago?! That was on paper the hardest game of the season and we can see the gap is closing! I fancy us for a draw there next season and a win the following year.

In the past we would go to Man City and hope that we weren’t embarrassed by the negative score line. This time I thought we had a chance of getting at least a point and maybe we would have got that if only we were firing on all cylinders . We lost but I see the positives .
Yeah there were definitely some positives to take.
Frustrating first 60 mins - defensively we we rock solid. Burn and Gordon were our only weak spot, Walker demolished them. I wonder if switching Miggy and Gordon on the flanks may have changed things up?
Defensively we were ok but in the final third we lack quality. We got to improve on the basics like passing the ball as we played to many stray passes . Next week we will beat Liverpool which will be a sweeter victory 💯👌🏿
I hope we win next week. Tough game but the atmosphere will be rocking I think
I didn’t really think we would win last night Ian but I was a bit disappointed with the way we played.I think we probably played better last season at the Etihad, I seem to remember Joelinton missing a sitter and we had one or two other chances.I don’t think we ever looked like scoring last night.On a positive note we looked fairly solid defensively and limited City to only a few chances themselves.
The fact everyone has said for the last 3 or 4 years that city have 2 11's that can both win the league is the challenge for us in the future. It took city 15 years after the takeover to win the champions league it will take us less than that. Miggy is a problem for me in the short term as I don't think we have a right sided attacker who can elevate his performance from the bench. I will be disappointed if there is not a reaction for the Liverpool game
Hopefully we get a good result against Liverpool.
Not panicking I just look how far we have progressed because in the 21/22 season we conceded 9 goals against city, in the 22/23 season we conceded 5 goals against city and so far in the 23/24 season only 1 goal conceded against city so to me that sounds like progress!!!!
A bit down but on the end of the day the had Foden we did dent 😁😅🤪
