  • Welcome to the first part of Warter Priory Estate's 'Best of Farming' series. In this multi-part series, we look back and showcase the best video clips we've captured over the last six years.
    To make this happen, we've spent hours looking through our archived camera footage and selected the best shots specifically for our 'Best of Farming' series. You will see our favourite clips that have featured in previous videos as well as some footage that never made the original cuts, and therefore has not been seen publicly, until now.
    It is worth pointing out that in our 'Best of Farming' series, we haven't just taken our past videos and put them back to back... Everything has been freshly edited from scratch, so the videos you see now have a completely different feeling than the originals.
    The first video in this new series is called 'Best of Ploughing'. As the name suggests, it features our favourite ploughing video clips, starting with the very first video we ever filmed.
    When we filmed and uploaded our first video, we never could have imagined that our channel would grow to the size it is today. We've been very lucky to connect with some incredible people and companies and we look forward to continuing this journey in the future. We would like to thank everyone who has helped us along the way, especially the manufacturers and dealers who have let us film their demonstrator machinery working at Warter Priory Estate.

    As this video is much longer than our current format, we have broken it down into chapters below. Each chapter marks different machines working. Feel free to watch the whole thing or skip about using the links below. We have also linked to the original videos too.

    Warter Priory is a world class farming operation set in the heart of East Yorkshire amidst 12,000 acres. At Warter, we pride ourselves on our reputation for quality and efficient farming. The main crops we focus on growing are wheat, barley and oilseed rape. We also grow peas in partnership with Birds Eye and some of our land is used for growing potatoes.

    Excellent to watch the progress of drones video quality as much as farm kit. Got to say my favourite bits are watching the kit pirouetting on the headlands,, something quite satisfying to watch!! Great work, great videos, great kit & excellent channel!!

      Thank you. Yeah it is really interesting to see the camera quality progress! Was really fighting whether to start with the older footage or not... didn't want to put new viewers off with the lesser quality clips... but it seemed more fitting to stick to date order as much as possible. Managed to tidy a lot of the older footage up as well, with horizon correction, stabilisation and colour correction... but the newer shots are still loads better. Glad you like the video, thank you for your comment!

      They really like them... much newer than our Claas combines though! So I think anything would have been a huge improvement... but the New Holland machines seem to be doing great! Thanks

    Love the video. Really liked the 38furrows! Do you plough all ground each year or is there a min-till element too. One question it raised with me was "Why the huge increase in horsepower used?" The 10furrow plough has remained a staple but the tractor on the front was a Challenger MT765 (circa 360hp if memory serves me right) in 2012 and now it's a 540hp Quadtrac. That's nearly a 200hp increase. Has the output raised 50+% too?

      Won’t burn that much more fuel if there’s a good operator in it. I think most of it will be them pulling a vaddie topdown and needing 600 horse on the hills. Also Iveco engines don’t seem to go bang as much as the cats do.

    I'm intrigued how AGCO let such a large and loyal customer switch to CNH. Not that Case is a less desirable product but Fendt was always the 'Rolls Royce' of tractors, great to drive and pulls like a train. You obviously liked them so I'm curious why the complete switch in one hit?

    • @WarterPrioryEstate
      @WarterPrioryEstate  Před 4 lety +3

      We contract hire some of our fleet and have it on a five year rotation, which is why we did the big switch all at once. When we looked at all the different options, Fendt was no longer the best deal for us so we went with Case, who came out significantly better in price and service promise. Not really anything else to it, just a considered business decision.

    • @kennywasgod
      @kennywasgod Před 4 lety

      Makes sense. CNH are very aggressive with their deals down this part of the world, however they face stiff competition from Deere. I bet AGCO were 'taken aback' when CNH offered a better deal. Not that you need to say but I'm guessing CNH gave a very generous service and warranty package which lets be honest all adds up.
      One last question, why not Case combines as well?

    • @WarterPrioryEstate
      @WarterPrioryEstate  Před 4 lety

      We thought the New Holland combines were the best fit for what we needed.

      West Amesbury Farms the really new (and really old fendts) with man engines will probably pull very well as they have an extraordinarily long stroke for modern engines. But the deutz engines (although seemingly reliable) are pretty gutless IMO. In my experience a 6130 deutz is no match for a 80 horse zetor! Part of this is because of all the clutter in the exhaust (egr scr def) and partly because low revving high displacement engines aren’t as fuel efficient or environmentally friendly. On paper (and having driven with all of these engines) deutz is outclassed by FPT (Fiat CNH) which in turn are far outclassed by sisu engines. For example a valtra t174 has a 7.4 litre engine and fendt 939 only has a 7.1 litre engine. So in short deutz engines tend to have a “worse” torque curve and torque to hp ratio than their competitors.

    When you are gang ploughing,why do you keep the press on while the others don't.

    • @WarterPrioryEstate
      @WarterPrioryEstate  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Mark. The 'gang' ploughing is set up for the video and not something we would normally do. Once we finished filming all the ploughs went back to different fields and carried on as normal.
