Possibly the most beautiful car ever
I saw the Astro II in car magazines in the late 1960s as a teenager and was amazed by the design. This overall design is what should have been the new mid-engine Corvette of today.
I just said the same thing a few minutes ago.....GM probably would have sold a lot more Corvettes if they went rear/mid engine years ago.
this looks absolutely gorgeous, had they opted to put this into full series production, you can bet history would have been completely different and today we wouldn't primarily associate and think Italian cars when talking about mid engine sports cars.
I can't believe they didn't use this
Thank god the Mitchell crew wasn't worried about old men and their goddamn golf clubs.
Been watching you for a long time. Keep up the great work man 👍👍
Thank you very much my friend!
This is a real L88 engine carrier !!
Like your bedroom cupboards... Joking apart are there any tech drawings of this car particularly how they adapted the Tempest transaxle to the 427 . ( Cannot think of Tempests without remembering ‘ My Cousin Vinnie ‘ , best car movie ever ! )
Beautiful car!
you cant even look at that car without getting sexually excited
it is gorgeous !
still crazy I saw you a year ago from the pagaini trip on april 1st on the road
FUN TO SEE. I HAVE TO WONDER WHY, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS GM FINALLY DECIDED TO GO MID-ENGINE WITH THE C8, SO LATE IN THE GAME.
The rear mounted transmissions in Corvettes that came long before the C8 offered great 50/50 weight distribution ratio & actually handles better on the track than the C8 & better than most older rear engine sports cars. So they weren't actually too late in the game. It's all about compromise, the rear engine C8 is like 40/60 weight distribution. So the more weight on rear tires makes it launch better for drag racing but it loses some handling/cornering ability. The main reason they built the rear engine C8 wasn't because it was an overall superior design. It was mainly because people unknowingly thought rear/mid engine cars were overall superior. So GM wanted people to associate it with other rear engine sport cars.
Now if GM had built rear engine Corvettes yeras ago, in the 60s or 70s before moving the transmission to the rear for 50/50 ratio. Then the old rear engine Corvettes would had rivaled all old rear engine European sports cars.
Sweet, thanks
Thank you Gm !!!!!
You have lost nearly 25 years of leading the sportscar market.
This babe could have beat all the european race cars
Only the gt40 would have been a competitor.
How does it feel to know
thats one possibly
The sports car market
Could have a say !
Even if they just moved the transmission to the rear sooner for a 50/50 ratio. They could have been in the game much sooner 🆚 waiting until 1997 to do so with the C5.
50/50 = Better on a curvy track
40/60= More weight over rear wheels, better launchs, better for drag racing but loses some cornering ability.
You can build a bad ass C5 Corvette that'll rival the current C8 & other mid engine sports cars.
I love it
Just found you channel great stuff. ....subed
Thank you very much for your support, very much appreciated!!
@@DtRockstar1 1st time I got a personal thx for subbing awesome retired lifelong mechanic and racer really like how much you know the real details and the old hero's like earl and Mitchell .I met bill Mitchell in 1975 and he was just a regular old hot rodder cool guy. Anyway I'll be watching
@@tragiclife9760 You met Bill Mitchell...very cool! The 50s and 60s had to have been some of the best times to be an automotive designer. No way in hell are we going to see any designs like Firebird III, Corvette Mako Shark, ect.
@@DtRockstar1 you look young to know all this stuff so well.yea 60s 70s even 80s were great cars .I was 16 In 69 and first car was 65 gto tri power paid 1250 for it in perfect 25000 mi condition .after that a stream of Pontiac then switched to Chevy nowadays daily driver is a 496 s10 it will go 960 all motor
So how fast was it? Any info on the 0-60 and 1/4 mile time?
I don't believe there is. They usually don't have that kind of information for concept cars.
Where is the Vector W8 footage?
I haven't created the video yet, but that will be up and running in the near future. :)
why isn't there a kit car for this thing
Only thing it needs is....headlights
I would have used a ZL1 engine
Who owns this car now?
GM still owns it, it’s at the GM Heritage Center.
1968 Dodge Charger III Concept !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tell me that’s not better looking than the C8!
