Hey! My name is Hafu Go and I'm a dreamer. For the past year, I made it my life mission to study patterns of success for students. I traveled across the world to interview students from top schools like Harvard, MIT, and Stanford. These college tips are what I learned from them combined with my personal experience. If you're a freshman about to enter your first week at college, then you should consider watching this video, twice!
Here's my list of college tips and tricks for incoming freshmen. Some of these might not make sense just by reading the headline, so you gotta watch the video to understand.
1. Don't cling to your high school friends.
2. Make Friends the first week or you'll be forever alone.
3. Don't do all of your reading. But do read books.
4. Dress nicely for class.
5. Your grades will be deflated.

1. Dont cling on hs friends, dont rely, Explore
2. Make new friends, introduce yourself.
3. Don't read, scan over the documents, and take note, textbook introduction, and conclusion. Slides . Read about you dont need. Skip optional reading.
4. Dress nicely, 1 you feel more confident, 2 no cute gonna notice.
5. Grade drop, not the same in Uni,
6. Seek out fun, have fun be spontaneous.
7. Befriend a prof, previously experience on work field. Connect work experience,
8. Study alone, and not at home. or small groups.
9. Study abroad, get different experiences, research study abroad.
10. Most important, dear to dream and seek for other dreams.

As a third year student I got to do most of these and the coolest thing about studying abroad is that it forces you to follow this list😊 so go out there (after the pandemic) and give it a go 😊

Actually, in junior college, the lectures aren't useful. So, exam questions come from "assigned" reading. At a university, reading often isn't "assigned." Exam questions usually come from a study guide or handouts.

@@hafu Oh yeah that definitely went viral haha the combined efforts of 85 flutists being shared by those same 85 flutists! I think it shows that musical leadership and direction really IS my calling in life. I've only met like 4 of the participants in real life before (they're friends from high school and college), so it's pretty amazing to see how people can get together for music like that!

I really want to apply your video to my college experience since I'm going to college as a freshman this coming school year, but I have a really hard time seeing how having things such as a social life and making friends as well as passing college is even possible.
Before you read below, please understand that I'm a first-generation college student, so I have no family to ask what college is like and maybe I'm just being super negative idk
I tried taking college classes in high school last year, and they were a very steep curve in difficulty. I never really learned how to study since I got almost perfect grades in high school anyways and 90% of my senior year was spent working and studying, I even had to drop out of the Yearbook club so I could study more. I didn't really have resources at my school to get help, so it was me and Google alone trying to comprehend the work that I was given, and I barely passed that year. Honestly, I was expecting my entire college experience to be me struggling in my math class and staying up until 2 AM studying, so I really don't know how I'm going to do anything else in college.

I study applied maths in my high school. Is it possible that I can study core maths in my college? Since I haven't taken science!
Not sure how I feel about the prospect of making new friends just for the sake of it then ‘ghosting’ them when you have determined that you have other stronger friendships or if you realise that you don’t gel as much.
If you have a brief chat to someone and then realise that you don’t have much in common or your personalities do not mesh then I leave it be (leaving them alone) and don’t waste their time only to dump them later on.
I hope my crippling social anxiety clears up in the time I hopefully make it to college
Another important thing I'd like to add about grades, as someone who's done AP, DE, etc.
-If you know what core classes your college/university requires of you, take classes that are the prefaces (prerequisites?? XD) of them. Like Calculus, high school has pre-cal. Take it. It's going to be harder, but you get a foundation for a course you're going to take later. I asked my Adv Algebra teacher, "what class would be better to take? College Algebra, or Pre-Cal?" And of course, he said Pre-Cal would be better, because Calculus is a class you're going to take.
-(This is more a personal opinion) Between AP and DE (Dual Enrollment), I find DE is harder, but more rewarding than AP. Bc DE is literally a college class. So you get to dip your toes and feel how college is kinda like, in terms of work. It is harder, but you get college credit, and if you go to a college that accepts them, you will not have to take it (saves money too).

I have a question for you, Hafu. I am planning on going my first year to a cap program, which is pretty much going to a school that's in the same system as the other schools, but you only go one year to transfer the next year to the school that you want to go ( if you get the required GPA). Now, my question is, will I be able to make friends in college if I transfer to a different school in my sophomore year? Will I have challenges, because everyone is already in their own group. I had had this struggle before in high school, where I moved a lot as a kid and never made any friends. I still, to this day, do not have any friends. Cheers

I was going to try my junior year to make an effort, but COVID really put a wrench in that🙃I don’t want to leave without having done steps 1 and 2. My time might’ve passed, but I’m anything but stubborn
I can relate with the "don't read" tip HAHAHAHA because I did not really bother opening any of the pdfs that were sent to us and I still passed the semester.

I was wishing to have a University life when I was in high school cuz more flexible than high school but a pandemic happened and a lot of things got limited such as having new friends in physical way, hangout with new friends, club activities and so on. Very disappointed due to the limitations. I hope pandemic disappear ASAP cuz I'm already in Semester 3 of 5 semester of pre-uni study. Study at home is boring.

How do you just drop friends once they are your friends they are like forever. In high school I had a kind of fake friend but you just feel bad dropping them if you are good at heart(no offense, hope it's none taken). Some people just ignore these friends which you should not do just tell them the truth that it might hurt but time....time heals everything. Good luck everyone!!!
