As the son of a man that worked in the shipyards as they started to fall apart this doc hit hard. Really well put together, it really stirred up feelings that had long been buried 😢

I started my apprenticeship with Clark Hawthorn in Wallsend in 1981 and done my first year at the British Shipbuilders Training School in Hebburn, it was brand new and I used to cycle from North Shields through the pedestrian tunnel or in the winter on the mid tyne ferries, but its all gone now along with Clark Hawthorne along with all the other shipbuilding and engineering jobs.

I find these documentaries on the decline of shipbuilding and heavy industry in this country etc to be difficult to watch and that is speaking as someone who grew up in London. So many lost opportunities that everyone regrets now. What a waste of talent and spirit.

Very interesting footage, good interviews, no unnecessary over long intro ... well done!

I was onboard the NORTHUMBRIA when launched , I think it awesome it was launched down a slipway considering the size and weight .I know the keel blocks were cracking night before!

I think boats and ships of all types are engineering works of art

One of the ships built on the Tyne carried me from Australia through the Pacific and canal to England back in 1967, the Northern Star Ocean Liner was the ship, some may remember her.

I have no idea where anybody got the idea as to Consett being the largest steel mill in Europe. It was not even the largest in the UK. I used to work there.

Then the Witch came along her name was Thatcher she waved her wand, and the shipyards disappeared and the witch sang with joy in her black heart the followers danced and celebrated.
