- When I first heard Dave Ramsey, I thought he was a little radical - and sort of crass - but Dave definitely grew on me. Let’s talk about the lessons which Dave taught us, because without Dave Ramesy, we may not have stayed debt-free.

Ooooo! I'm working his plan and almost out of debt!!! 🎉 He actually totally changed my mindset about debt!!
Changing our mindset was a huge part of what Dave did for us, too.
Discovering Dave Ramsey was transformational for me. It’s brought us freedom!
I'm a grad of Financial Peace U, and no matter what the critics say, it is a sound path to stability, savings, and a sound mind for living on what you earn.
I agree!
Dave Ramsey has given me the financial advice my parents couldn’t/didn’t. I don’t know where we would be without him.
Lol, congrats??
Debt free! 5 month emergency fund plus sinking funds. Sinking funds are a game changer!
I borrowed his book from the library 10 years ago. The audio version, his yelling at me is just what I needed.
You guys being able to pay cash for your second house… I called that a God thing!
Besides Ramsey, I thank Amy Dacyzcyn from The Tightwad Gazette, that helped me see how to be frugal so I could follow Ramsey’s baby steps!
Amy’s books made me unashamed to be frugal. I credit her with learning to not worry about what other people think of my frugality. I had all her books and would reread them. Then I loaned them to a friend and never got them back. I’d probably still read them today though a lot of it is outdated. But the principals are the same. As a civil servant my income was somewhat limited so I frugaled my way to financial success.
Her meal planning, and second hand purchasing, and all over glossary was perfect as I was a single mom raising 5 kids.
Before Dave Ramsey was a wonderful man Larry Burkett. His Financial planning and budgeting information was a godsend to us in 1996. I have lived on his plan since then. He changed not only my life but the life of my son as he navigated his finances and now does even today
We loved Larry Burkett, too!
I really liked Larry Burkett too. Everyday at 3 pm I waited to listen on radio on Moody Radio. I still have his budget percentage guide to income. I use it also.
His show has morphed into MONEY Wise on Moody Radio...90.1 Chicago.
I discovered Dave Ramsey back during the lockdown in 2020. I was unemployed.
I'm European and it was a big surprise for me to discover people needed his "baby steps" when those are just pure common sense.
My grandparents, who survived a war, told me always how to live on less, be frugal, pay cash for everything (including the house), and enjoy simple things in live.
But of course, I didn't realise how deep consumerism is ingrained in North America and how unhappy people are in general.
I really appreciate the job The Ramsey team is doing for you guys.
Debt free!!!!
BEST VIDEO EVER!!! You can feel and see the excitement you have about this subject!! Being debt free is the best feeling in the world. We have always been low income on one salary, but as Dave teaches, "slow & steady wins the race". On BS 7, retired and loving life! These are the BEST years, thanks to Dave's principles ❤
Yes Dave is blunt but we needed that blunt honesty to wake us up. Debt is so normalized nowadays we truly believe a car payment was normal only the rich didn’t have them. We are almost debt free and lots of the advice that helped us was from Dave. Also EveryDollar is a game changer.
I've never had debt or credit cards but dave has taught me how to be thoughtful with money and i would not be without an emergency fund now ever!
It's important to live below your means and be debt-free... have a financial cushion. But I learned that from my parents. My parents did the envelope system well before Ramsey! Every month they sat at the table, went thru bills and their written budget... and taught the kids as well. There are times when I find Ramsey out of touch with the real world for the "real people". I'd like to see him go to the grocery store, look at prices and decide what to buy and what not to buy. :-)
I still find him mean, rude and crass to this day but some people aka me in 2016 need that "You made this mess. Now what are you going to do about it" message. Debt free due to the Baby Steps. Current savings going to new teeth then Saving for land. One large goal at a time!
Gazelle intensity and intentionality go hand in hand! Worked for us too!
Listening to you two & also reading Dave Ramsey's books and also listening to his CZcams channel has changed my Husband & my life. So much valuable information coming from the best who is sharing their ups & down in getting out of debt and staying debt free.
Thank You!
Larry Burkett and then Dave Ramsey taught us SO MUCH about managing money!
I read total money makeover about 3 years ago and it totally changed my financial life
My husband and I were given this book as a wedding gift when we got married 11 years ago. We followed the steps and now we are a 1 income family with 7 children one of which is extremely special needs. I quit my job as a nurse to care for him when he was born almost 9 years ago. Our house is paid off, we have substantial savings. I obviously don't want my husband to lose his job but if he did we would be okay. It feels amazing to own everything and know no one can take your things away from you. If something did happen we'd cut down to the 4 walls again and live on savings until income was restored.
We’re on baby step 2, small balance on last credit card, then ready to start building up our emergency fund.
We have 4 rentals( 2 pd for, 1 small mortgage on 2 combined) .We will sell 3 of the rentals and keep one for income in retirement.that will help us fund the emergency fund quickly ( husband is 74 , I’m 67)to be able to start working on our home mortgage in order to finally be 100% debt free!!!
Thanks to the gift of my share of inheritance from the death of my beloved daddy in March, we will finally be in position to finally retire . 8:30
I really appreciate the way you explain frugality . It helps to understand why
Dave Ramsey's plan is instructive for many people, especially the first 3 baby steps. But it falls apart after that because it's designed for the traditional household - married people with dual income potential, children and home owners. That said, the general principles you outlined work for everyone.
baby steps 1,2,3 & 4 are basically for everyone. He does say that 5 is optional (saving college $ for kids) and he also says there’s nothing wrong with renting instead of owning.
Can't believe we've got to this place where it's so normal to be just perpetually in debt.
Dave isn’t crass, but he is blunt!
I sometimes see clips of his show and he can be a bit much but sometimes he is just the voice of reason you need to hear.
We did Dave Ramsey before we found him. We gleamed useful information from him.
I have his book and need to finally sit down & read it. I am so tired of living paycheck to paycheck. I am so ready to get out of debt.
I listen to you guys just because I like money talks and the occasional personal thought or photo. I have listened to a lot of Ramsey derivatives also. My one big issue with his advice is the no credit card philosophy. We have and have had credit cards for 51 or of our 53 years of marriage. We only had a debt with interest 1 time on the credit card when we moved to this house 38 years ago. Paid off very quickly. Now we use credit cards in lieu of debit card as they are safer and not connected to our bank balance. We get money back or points on transactions. I transfer money from bank to pay during month so there is never a balance with interest. Saving, wise spending and financial security are a mind set. I think you guys have that.
Thanks to Dave Ramsey I was able to retire early with an emergency fund and peace of mind.
Dave Ramsey is great but Hope and Larry, you both have helped me so much. ❤
Been depth free for over 14 years. Have emergency fund and fund for vacations.
Hope and Larry were the first step for me to become debt free. I only have my mortgage left to pay off
Dave Ramsey is very good. Have learned so much from him.
I,agree he's crass.
Hi Hope and Larry! I read “Making The Most of Your Money” by Jane Bryant Quinn when it first came out and I credit her book with my getting on the right financial track. This was before Dave Ramsey became a thing. I also occasionally watch “ The Money Guy “ CZcams channel; they have a Financial Order Of Operations which has more steps than Dave and they aren’t bombastic, which makes them more palatable for my purposes. Regardless, the keys to my success were definitely living below my means, setting financial goals, and being debt free for the most part ( I had a mortgage and for a short time, a car loan).
Dave Ramsey taught me to say no
Avoid peer pressure
Buy with a purpose
He is super cranky, good infor but my go to is Gail Vaz Oxlade. Books and tv show now on YT!
the hard thing is to be consistent; i try to save 50 euro a week; in a year this is quite a bit
Thanks for another great video! Can I please ask a question? I may have missed your stance on credit cards? If you don’t want to answer, I completely understand, but I only have one, and pay off right away, if I use it ( but am thinking about getting rid of it) I’d value your insight-y’all are awesome! Thank you!!
Never heard of him before.
Hi Larry and Hope, what is more important to do, pay down debt or have an emergency fund?
Spending on the no spend challenge book???
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
What if you've already bought the finance planner bundle last year?
The additional bonus materials are only for this sale. Sorry.
I'd honestly be interested in purchasing the additional, just not the whole bundle again, if you wind up making that an option. I really enjoy your content, advice, and even your relationship with each other and how you relate to things.
👍👏👏👏
That’s a real pretty top Hope! Looks like something Princess Kate would wear!
Thank you!
You’re husband at lest listen my husband never he considers me stupid
SAY IT WITH ME: DAVE RAMESY IS. NOTTTT. GOD.
The lack of comments speaks volumes that people are finally seeing through his shtick. Billionaire unchecked, who??!?!?
One of my relatives hates Dave Ramsey too!
Her financial plan consists of the following three steps:
Apply for a new credit card.
Run it up over the limit, mostly on things she doesn't need.
Default on the credit card - and dishonestly and immorally pass the loss off to those of the rest of us who actually sacrifice, plan, and exercise some self-control in order to pay off our debts, maintain a savings account, and stay current on our bills.
I’m not saying he is bad but he 100% profits off of the poor and religious ignorant….I was teaching these same principles in my class back in the 90s and early 2000’s….if you sell anything you are profiting plan and simple….
No one said he was. He is a man with a mind for financial stability and freedom, which is balanced and wise.
No one is saying he’s god. He’s just giving advice on “how to” plan your financial life. He has good ideas.
@@katethielmann4244 you people will believe anything! You are so embarrassing. Clowns.
Just do NOT follow Clark Howard financial advice
Joshua Becker is much better than Dave.
People don't need Dave Ramsey
Boo on you both! Dave Ramsey?! I like you're tips though hope and hubby. Anyways i like you 2 not dave ramsey.
One of the first lessons we taught our sons was to learn to "eat the meat and spit out the bones". Just because you don't like his personality, doesn't mean that Dave Ramsey doesn't teach some lessons that are worth learning. I would encourage you to watch the video. I admit in the beginning that I found Dave a little hard to swallow, but that we gained specific (and important) insight from him.
I find the harsh rejectors of Dave Ramsey are those who have no discipline. None. They live on debt and on waiting for their pay check.
