Absolutely spot on explanations of Greases for RC Cars!! 🍻👌👏👏👏👏👏
AW Grease is used by some, to make the Diffs stiffer... I have a very different approach to improving Differentials - NOT locking them!! 😠😖 I HOPE to be able to finally make a video about my method.
You are very correct about using synthetic based Grease in your RC Cars. Most Petroleum based Lubricants can attack the plastic.
For my Gears Lube, I only use a product called Super Lube. It is 100% Synthetic, Silicone based Grease. It's A little thick, so I wouldn't recommend it for Racing... but it has a wonderful property. Adhesion!! It stays ON the Gear Teeth, and won't break down for many years! 👍👍 It's economical. I have a 350ml Tub, that will last the rest of my life!
On the TOUCHY subject of Bearings.... I hear in almost EVERY Video "I'm using Ball Bearings, so I don't need Lube."
    That is so WRONG!!! 😮
Bearings are a MOVING PART! Now, I would never use Grease... But I always use a light Machine Oil. Especially good in sealed Bearings, because the thin Oil stays in the Bearing! And it not only doesn't slow them down, it actually speeds them up!! Plus increasing the life of the Bearings. 😎👌 You should recoil the Bearings every 30-50 hours of running.
More importantly, never use non sealed Bearings in any position where they are exposed to the outside. They WILL attract all the Dust, and destroy it!!
    It's just a common sense thing. 😉
Dirk, thank you for this. Very insightful and will help many people! Take care my Friend! 😊

Hi there Carmine. Thank you for your great comment and sharing your value experiences. This'll help beginners to improve their cars.
For my excuse, I tried to keep the video short and easy so beginners get a good and quick overview. So specialised lubrication or for special perposes felt out of it. Maybe it was a mistake not to mention maintenance. I believe we're all thinking beings, but as I read ball bearings instead or without grease I couldn't hid a laughter.
Preparing the external bearing with oil was known for me from some crawlers and is a good base to make them work smooth and protected.
Speaking of the seals of the bearings is an issue by heart for me. I wish and I hope that ceramic sealed bearings are getting more common and cheaper in the next time. I would change the external bearings on my whole fleet immediately. But as long deep cleaning of the car after a hard run or periodly maintenance check-ups should help to prevent the worst.
Thank you again for your very informative comment. I really appreciate it. Stay save and have a nice weekend.

Dirk, Maintenance would be a great subject for a separate Video, given its importance!
Ceramic Bearings do seem like the perfect solution... but they are prohibitively expensive. Even they have limitations, like they're not suitable for very heavy vehicles, or in very high load areas. Mainly Axle Pinion Bearings on Comp Crawlers.
Yes, several people use them for this, knowing that they're life is limited. But in the U.S., there's been a trend towards actually using Bronze BUSHINGS for the Axle Pinion Gear!!
This is for older models that use 5X11X4 Bearings. Then Axial and Vanquish started using much larger Pinion Gears, which mitigated that problem! 😎
And yes my Friend, when someone mentions no need for any Lube on Bearings.... I either chuckle or get upset. Either way it concerns me. But of course, neither you, I, or anyone can make someone do something they don't want to....
Have a good Weekend yourself! 😉

What a great video ! White lithium, silicone, and dielectric grease all very very useful, Ive started using “anti seize” compound on my gears for a while now.
I save the tamiya antiwear grease (grey stuff) to make all my differentials tighter. Racers at our track swear by that stuff

Thank you for watching and your great answer Rex. Very interesting input. 👍
Please keep me up to date about your experiences with the anti-wear grease after a longer period. I'm really courios about it.

  • @AddamsPlayground

I have been using a aftermarket ceramic grease in all my builds and it works great and so much cheaper than the Tamiya grease. I do not grease up any external parts though, only the internals that are sealed up. Everywhere else I will use a dry lubricant that leaves a slippery but non-sticky film on the parts that is just enough to reduce the friction but not attract any dirt and grit, This prevent the lubrication from turning into an abrasive! I recently got a bottle of biodegradable dry lube that seems to work well. There are lot of options out there and you did a great job explaining them!

Thank you Addam for your great comment and bid input. This was one of my initial thoughts to this video. Tamiya's greases are very good but very expensive too, especial when you see how less grease you get for your money. And especial for the beginners I tried to keep as closed to the manuals of the kits as possible.
Your dry lubricant hint is very value for me. Issues with dirt are well known. I just heard from a buddy (I think it was Rex) that he even uses bushings in the suspension parts for protection against water.
I prefeer to do extra maintenance turns from time to time to clean and check the ball bearings on the external parts or a deep cleaning if the run was too dust-attracting. And this is the philosophy I mentioned in the video driven by the experience of each modeler. For this I love our little RC community here on youtube. Knowledge and Experience grows by everyone who gets into the talk.
Great comment Addam. Thank you and have a great weekend.

I only use grease on the bevel/diff gears and the axles bearing so that there is little to no water getting into the diff housings and leave everything else dry.

For my main gease it's easy. It's sold international. Go into the jungle (I don't name this market place here, but I think you understand😉) and write "LM boat grease" into the search. You'll probably get it in hardware or boat supply stores, too. Tamiya stuff over tamico.de. Hope I could help😊
