@@JAYY_JAYY The school was called IMAC. This was more than a decade ago. At the time I enjoyed both the school, their recommended accommodation, and the city but it's been so long that I can't make a recent recommendation as things may have changed dramatically since then. My knowledge of Spanish was nothing more than a few words when I started studying in Guadalajara. Afterward, I studied in other locations but for much shorter periods until I reached an intermediate level. Guadalajara wasn't overrun with tourists, nor with foreigners, so practicing Spanish was essential while I was there which is a good thing.

I was initially going to study Spanish 30 days in Roma Norte .
@@JAYY_JAYY Yes, several years ago I visited CDMX as a tourist for 2 weeks but never studied there. By then my Spanish was intermediate. I fell in love with CDMX & my accommodation was in Juarez. Roma Norte is a beautiful area. Enjoy your trip.

My Wife was born and grew up in Colonia Americana. We stay at the Plaza Velvet when we visit from our home in Bucerias. We love the area for all the reasons shown in the video even though my Wife misses how the area was back in the 70s and 80s.

7:28 when I was in Guadalajara about a year and half ago this is what I did. I went to the miBici office, which is not far from the neighborhood being discussed and purchased an annual pass, which was cheaper than a one month pass at the time.

Your english is perfect with no accent and I'd like to know if you've lived in the states? My Mexico born husband who has been here in TX over 30 years still struggles with words and his accent will never go away although we speak english at home. I enjoy your videos. My best friend retired to Baja La Paz area and I'm so jealous!

Kinda feel honored about the coolest neighborhood in the world mention, HA! Most my life has been marked by this lovely neighborhood… Used to skateboard in Chapu in the early 00's (pre-remodeling), dad had a business half a block from it, and I currently live 2 blocks away from Templo Expiatorio. Gentrification has been playing a big role in the last 10-15 years, lots of high rises and poshy vibes, it certainly IS the place to visit while in Guadalajara! Not so much to live in; beggars, theft and pollution are not rare, as you'd expect in any major city centre worldwide, not only in México, sadly.

Lake Chapala is a boring place. Most of expats there are retired people, same goes to Ajijic.
Lake Chapala is a great place to retire for me I want to completely retire, away from the crazy Hussle of the US., It maybe boring for some but it will be perfect for me.

I was there for a week recently and pretty much walked every street. I liked the area, mainly west of Chapultepec and over into the adjacent Arcos Vallarta neighborhood. The more north side of the neighborhood bordering Santa Tere starts to get a little sketchy. Easy to get around by bus and many dedicated bike lanes. I also liked the Chapalita and Monraz neighborhoods. Spent a week in La Estancia and although it has a Costco and large mall within walking distance, it was not for me.

I've lived in the Lake Chapala (Ajijic & San Antonio) area for 4.5 years and will relocate in November. I am interested in Colonia Americana - I would like to find a 2br furnished apartment with off-street parking. I am a single senior and walk with a cane. would need a flat area and if a tall building, also, an elevator.

Sure- but México is a very large country. The safety situation is different depending on where you are or what types of crimes take place
Es mala y en esa zona y sus alrededores casa día peor, desde que te roban el celular, la bici y lo que pueden. Cada día hay menos árboles, no es seguro caminar. El gobierno se los vende como muy bonito, pero eso no vale si es inseguro
i find these safety questions funny. Last night i ran into old friends i knew when i lived in Oakland. I asked them why they were in my town and they said they didn’t go out to eat in Oakland anymore as they were sick of having their car broken into. This is the entire west coast of the US now. Mexico is safer

Its also the neighborhood with the most crime in GDL according to a recent newspaper article.
There does tend to be more petty crime because there is a lot of money. So the trendier the neighborhood, the more it becomes a target.
I was there in June and wasn’t a fan. The air quality is horrendous. When you are landing you can see the smoke in the air. Evidently Mexicans open pit burn their garbage. You feel it in your eyes and can smell it as soon as you leave the airport. I stayed downtown in very nice hotel. Stepping out onto the street it felt like a big city like it is. Again the air quality is tough. A lot of older vehicles spewing unregulated exhaust. Bustling with people and tourists however many empty storefronts and graffiti. I walked into several restaurants but there was absolutely zero level of service. It was odd. Finally found a restaurant with a line and the service was awesome and the food good. Evenings different story. Was advised not to walk alone. And hotel staff told me not to walk the fifteen minutes to the nightclub but to Uber. Everything is shutdown. I know different areas have different vibes but I was not impressed on my first visit
I'm preparing to move to Guadalajara by the end of the year, or sooner. I'm use to living in a house with some space for a small dog. Preferably away from the city. Any suggestions?
You could find a house anywhere in the city with a small yard. But if you need a lot of space, perhaps you would prefer being in outskirts of town. There are dozens of gated communities

From Spain, Mexico is a wonderful country but from my point of view it has a great drawback, insecurity. I have been once as a tourist in Mexico and I liked everything, its people, its food, its landscapes and its wonderful colonial cities and pre-Hispanic monuments, but I always had a strange feeling of insecurity. It was very strange for me to observe that there many middle and upper class neighborhoods live almost shielded, that in Spain only happens in very certain urbanizations in Madrid, Barcelona or the Costa del Sol where ultra-rich or very famous people live and I think that This is more to maintain privacy than for security reasons.
I mean is only cultural, to be honest we have no problems with carteristas, it happens but not as EU levels, We always have this kind of security because We have done this since early 1900, every construction do it no matter if it's a rich, poor, middle class neighborhood.
I don't understand. It is true that in the European Union there are pickpockets in tourist areas, but a pickpocket is not a violent criminal. The evidence cannot be denied, Mexico is one of the most insecure and violent countries in the world, only in a large Mexican city there are more homicides than in the entire European Union@@VNDREW7
I feel safer everywhere I’ve been in Mexico than I did in Barcelona. I do agree though that there seems to be more physical separation of the nicer areas.
I am sure the old grey beautiful building facade that you saw, with what looked like Condos built on top of of it and behind it is protected by INAH. I call it Federal Hysterical Society. They have a death grip on all old historic buildings in all of Mexico over around 150 years old. Can not even paint the house your house later, without paying for a permit from them, and they have to approve the colors even! I am sure they did not give the Building Permit to the Developer before seeing the whole plans on reconstruction of what was left of the old building, which was the facade, had to be completely rebuilt and fixed first, before they even let them start construction on the condos. They have done a lot of good throughout the years, but they can be a stupid pain to work with if at times especially if you get a Socialist Engineer going up against you. I say against you as they are 100% clueless as to the Economics of making a Building Project profitable and they do NOT care. And, the work can not be done by just any Architect. No, no, no! Has to be on their approved list of Historic Architectural Engineers that know exactly what INAH Engineers will and will not allow. Basically when they start the reconstruction, your Architect is working for INAH, NOT you. It can get expensive.

Being there and let me tell you. Is not that cool to live there. Scatter nice houses among graffiti abandoned blocks with constant traffic is not cool at all. You want cool, hip and eclectic romantic yester year vibe. Go to CDMX Polanco or Coyocan.
Coyoacan and Polanco are very neat. But let’s be honest- That’s not the real Mexico .
