I stopped using FL, but this carries over to anything you use. Also for cutting the low end on you're instruments...cut accordingly. 808 driven beats yes cut a good amount...some beats you just want a little more low inthe instruments.

      @perazzibeats9559 Pƙed 2 lety +5

    • @xKrizel
      @xKrizel Pƙed 2 lety +11

      @@perazzibeats9559 Yeah but you would master the finished song for the album, not the beat. Mastering is much more than cleaning up the sound, for example setting fades and pauses between tracks, leveling and arraning tracks to give a coherent listening experience, inputting metadata, creating a ddp image and more...

    • @perazzibeats9559
      @perazzibeats9559 Pƙed 2 lety +4

      @@xKrizel Obviously. But go listen to a bunch of beats online. You can tell those that just put a softclipper on and think it slaps because some dude on genius told them to do it and now everyone thinks it's all you need. Compare that to those that use compression properly, limiting and M/S EQ and there's a world of difference in terms of the quality. That is what I meant by "mastered" it clearly is not mastered hence the quotation marks.

    Why would you put a soft clipper on the master? Just turn down the volume of the tracks, gainstage and you don't need anything on the master track.
    After you're done with the gainstaging, you can add compression to them, sidechain the 808 to the kick, compress the snares to actually make them hit. I recommend using Waves R-Bass on your 808s.
    So yeah, remember, louder doesn't mean better.
    And also a great tip: mix on super low levels, it will help with gainstaging.

    You have really good tips. I will give you and the people in the comments a word of advice:
    This advice is not as matter of fact as he is making it out to be. For trap and hip hop type music this stuff is pretty standard, but if you want to have more unique beats, I'd say push complex. Do not ever take mixing advice as anything other than a style. There is no right or wrong way to mix something. Do what sounds good for your piece of music. This guy is giving advice for more poppy, trappy type music which definitely is great advice just be wary when applying this to other genres!

    I think the bigger mistake is the bounce (808, kick, snare/clap, hihat, rim, openhat and your drums sounds fine), you got it with time. In boombap the problem changes a little bit, because the drums needs to sound more realistic (like using open hats, rims w/ more frequency to get the bounce)
