    - Yep, absolutely. And you'd find if they were on slicks, Montoya's pre-qualifying time at Monza 2004 would still stand as the fastest lap instead of Hamilton in his Hybrid Mercedes on slicks.

      They are changing the tracks all the time to make them safer, remove barriers, etc which makes the track generally faster. A modern day F1 will get trouced by an older V10 with modern day electronic systems.

    Great video Ermin, as always, but Monza was a poor track of choice. I think it is generally well known that the modern cars top end speed is not its strong suit. I would have gone more a more mixed up track like Spa, with decent straight, but still plenty of places for modern cars to show their true strengths as well.

      yeah 350 kmh down the main straight at monza proves modern cars arent good in a straight line, oh wait...
      monza is the perfect track to show off a cars power, unlike spa which is a power and handling circuit, monza is purely a power circuit, you're only going to do well there if youve got enough POWAH BABEH

      I think the corners at Monza do tend to emphasize the weight difference in the cars, mainly due to the long braking zone.

    I think the main reason the V10 cars are faster on the straights is because... since the hybrid cars gained a huge Downforce gain in 2017, it caused ALOT of drag, and drag decreases top speed, however the V10s ran on a lower downforce setup, therefore less drag, so they had a higher top speed

    The late 1990's to early 2000's were the best era after 1980's turbos. No ABS, no traction control, beryllium engine parts, 900-1000hp from 3litre v10, 19-20 000rpm, no max rev limit in the rules.

    I'm a bit bias on this, since I grew up with the V12 era F1 cars, so those sound a lot better to me than the V10s. Also, the added Kimi antics on the video had me laughing hard! Great video!

    Juan Pablo Montoyas record stood there at Monza for so long in that Williams V10 BMW. On grooved Bridgestones no less. Miss the screaming V10's so much! And as an IndyCar fan over F1 the days of the 1000HP twin turbo methanol breathing 256 MPH top speed CART monsters are of a bygone era. Its looking more and more like the early 2000K's was the peak 'Golen Era' of motorsports that will never be seen again.

    they are using grooved tires “makes you wonder how fast they are on slick tires“ - this is VERY easy to find out, in content manager chose the car and hit “replace tires“ and you can fit anything on any car! Please make a video with mid 2000 f1 cars on slik tires and also put that record breaking endurance porsche in it! (And put one ai with your car in the grid so we can see how far off the ai pace frim a human is, I think if humans drove on that race in alonsis and kimis car tgey would be a lot quicker but its hard to tell by how much if you dont have an ai competing with your car)

      I just tried that on my content manager, it doesn’t work… It keeps telling me to “hold shift to swap tyres” tried that as Well, didn’t work either. Would you care to explain more in depth how you are supposed to do it?

      @@lucabuzz2678 hey, I just tried it and it didnt work for me either. I didnt use cm in at least half a year so maybe I forgot how it works but judging from my internet search this broke some time in 2021. You can try earlier version of content manager from 2019 or use the “generate new tires“ option in the replace tires menu.

I had the feeling something special was necessary to make this tire swap work so I went back and played around a bit and it worked: Click replace tires - then on the right side where it lists all tires left click any tire and hold - then drag them to the left side where the cars current tires are-keep holding left click and right click under the #1 - release both mouse keys- then a delete box will appear - while this box is open - drag the tires you want to have from the right to the left. And now they are accepted. Try it several times it needs some practice :) Write me if it works for you!

    Very cool video !!! Wow so many memories watching this. I think F1 V10s of 2004 are the quickest ever. They had weird limitation on the tyres, 4 stripes in the middle to slow them. With slick tires they would have gone seconds faster. And in race mode as refuelling was allowed, they were absolute sprint machine lapping 5 to 6 seconds faster than modern cars. Alonso, Button, Schumacher, Barrichello etc looked completely destroyed at the end of races. It was another time, different context, different issues but it was nice 😎🙌🏻

      The modern engines have a LOT more torque due to the turbos and electric motors

    My only problem with this is that the mods for the older cars may be less accurate because they are made by single people unlike the Race Sim Studio official 2021 f1 car

      Well the mid 2000s cars are made by a well known team if I remember correctly, so that is really all that matters as they are the fastest cars

      The RSS cars (physics-wise) are made by one person too. That's... not a valid criticism.
      What is valid is that very little hard data exists in the public realm for most of these which will, inevitably, lead to problems with realism. Good point poorly made. ;)

      @@mch6367 Well that's not apples to apples. The V10 cars didn't have slicks or DRS. Yas Marina 2020 proved that the V10 cars on slicks still had the ability to keep up. And that's with an engine nearly 2 decades old limited to a certain RPM. Imagine if more R&D had been put into the V10. No doubt such a monster would scorch the modern cars built to be as micromanaged as possible.

      They'd be slower, you can't fit the modern package in the cars with a v10. You'd have to strip away the MGU which would leave you with 900hp compared to the v6 package with a whopping 1300hp

    A uniquely entertaining comparison, thanks for going to the trouble. I'm sure dozens of people have already asked, but I would like to see a comparison race between a few of the top 5 F1 cars and the same number of fastest-ever LeMans prototypes on this fantastic Monza track.

      In truth as we see with the track records that go down each year. In real life with similar tires the results would probably be the more recent the farther up the grid you would be. It’s not only about the engine, even though it makes a difference it’s not all. And with the changes to smaller engines aerodynamics solutions were implemented that completely changed the landscape year by year. Of course there would be black swan situations. But as a rule of thumb.

    The reason theyre so fast on the straights besides the epic 19000rpm V10's is they are less wide with thinner tyres, makes a massive difference in drag.

      lol yeah, this video is for the most part a demonstration of how inaccurate many of these mods are. But also this is a very setup-dependent track and comparisons are pretty pointless without working on that.

      @@Griffin283 I am comparing results of clean races, for example spain 2005 which was the last year of v10s, and spain 22 or 23. Race times are quicker back in 2005. You have to take into account they were faster in straights and the cars were way smaller and lighter. Tires were better too, since it was a performance competition between bridgestone and michelin, not degradation management for entertainment. Perhaps you are partially right and in some other circuits with more high speed corners v10 have worse results. Or if tire rules were different now they'd be faster all-around.

      @@magnusVarblomst The groved tires were miles slower than modern slicks.. did you ever watch the demo of Alonso driving his championship car on them? It was a missile in comparison to what it was back then. Also, the Spanish GP isn’t a good argument because the 2023 qualifying times were much faster than the 2005 lap times. Not really sure what your point is? Sure they’re slightly faster in a straight line, but miles off in the high speed. They’re not going to be faster on many, is any circuits. Maybe the likes of Baku, Singapore or Monaco. But not on a traditional circuit

    I wonder how this would've ended if it was for a full race distance. Also lots of the additional weight of modern cars is safety related. Impact and crash structures, the halo and wheel tethers. Also Monza is very geared towards the older cars. Let them all have a go at Silverstone sometime.

    The sound of that v10 gives the feels like as the rpms increase we feel that it's going faster and faster but i. The hybrid car's it's just feels we're going at a constant speed as we cannot feel the increase in speed and rpm as in the v10

    It all makes sense now. I was wondering why modern F1 races and cars look so slow - it's just because i'm used to the monsters that the early 2000s cars were. Smaller and less powerful engines with bulkier and heavier cars can't really bring something faster. Really miss the speed of the Golden F1 Era, but what i miss even more is the sound. Those howling V10 will forever stay not only in my mind, but my heart and soul as well.

    You can give the old cars any tires you want: In content manager click replace tires-then on the right side where it lists all tires left click any tires and - drag them to the left side where the cars current tires are-keep holding left click and right click under the #1 - and release both mouse keys - a delete box appears leave it open - now you can drag and drop any tire from right to left. Sounds complicated but it is easier than it sounds!

      Modern F1 cars actually have less downforce, but more weight and questionably "better" tyres. A large part of the so called "improving the racing" in modern F1 has been trying to make overtaking easier and safer. That means less high cornering efficiency (less downforce), more mistakes, but better slow cornering speed (higher mechanical grip) through the tyres.

    also, i wonder how a full length session might go. obviously wouldn't have reliability and such to worry about, but between tire and fuel wear, pit strat, etc, maybe the cars would be closer? especially on a track that suits corners and acceleration much more

      @@theodorechatzis7881 drs only brings them up to the older cars level, the rest of the time they're bombarded with drag due to higher weight and bigger dimensions and wrong aero setups (pointy sticky uppy beats everywhere). Truth of the matter is, in the years to come, you'll see more electric power given to the cars. 80Kw is laughable, but still they're faster than the old cars. Imagine when they put in a bigger battery and a proper 350Kw motor for the mgu-k and mgu-h to draw from it..... These cars will do 0-200 kph in sub-4 seconds easy.

      It's a huge fail to not have these on the grid. Especially the active suspension Williams seeing as that car is considered the peak of F1 car performance (meaning they had to start intentionally slowing down cars at that point).

    My first time going to the Australian GP was the last year they had the V10's, when they were quite possibly the fastest the cars have ever been and until the new cars come out when they plan to be smaller and lighter nothing will be as fast, but that's just simply due to how much power those V10's had.

    The sound of the V10s is seemingly a force of its own for making the V10 cars still come on top of these races! That makes me wonder why the heck F1 switched to the colourless Hybrid Turbo V6s and what the point was in the first place! 🤷‍♂️
    I mean, even the inexistent DRS and the grooved tires aren't enough to hold the V10s back! My Goodness!
    The historic Raikkonen team radios still get me laughing every time! 🤣🤣
    I think you should also include the Ferrari 412 T2, the last and ultimately best evolution of the Ferrari 3.0 V12 in 1995, the last season before V10s became the norm! Please include it in your next race against the 2022 F1 car and, also, don't forget the 1989 Ferrari 640, with the world's first 7-speed semi-automatic! 😉😁😎🤘🏁

      Because they're way more powerful, and because f1 wants to be as green as possible (i don't understand that well this choice)
      Bottas, in 2016 i believe, reached 378 kmh in the qualifying at baku, and that car had way more downforce than a early 2000 one. Those v10 f1s were more agile, but on a track like spa, or jeddah for example, the new cars shine

      @@oj7177 F1 is supposed to be a race of speed and agility against the clock, not a race of fuel management. If they wanted to be as green as possible, then they would either turn into that Shell championship with the small aerodynamic prototypes or stop completely. Makes no sense when every F1 race is held once a year and there's only 15 or so of them each season. Along with the stupid and pointless concerns of Ham about what we should do with our lives, that's also why I stopped watching F1: because everything has turned into a race of management.

      Thermal efficiency (50+ percent nowadays, definitely nowhere near as much with the V10s and V8s), torque, fuel efficiency, etc. Also road relevance. I can bet you're way more likely to see a road car with a turbo V6 than a naturally aspirated V10.
