I agree with you. It is not bad the V6 but it's not proper for an F1 race car. I remember back to the V10 period when I went to Monza for friday practice. I could hear only one engine when fired up in the box while I was still one mile far from the circuit. Now I can't even hear the cars if they are on the opposite side of the circuit. Very sad thing

This footage still sounds very different from what you'd hear in real life, as I'm sure you know. There's a very distinct turbo whistle you can clearly hear in real life but video doesn't do it justice. Its still nowhere near the old engines in real life but its a nice sound :)

@@yar2000 mmm I partially agree with you. Clearly the sound in the video sounds different from the real one but talking about turbo whistle I do not agree.
There is a whistle, as you can hear a bit in the video while cars are coming with throttle released but they actually do not sound different from that in real life. Maybe you can hear it more clear but not different. And it also depend on the engines, some are more turbo-noiosy, some others less.

@@EnginLurens Oh yeah the engine sounds themselves are definitely close to real life in the video (much closer than the TV broadcast, that doesnt even sound like its the same engine), but everytime I've been to a hybrid race I've noticed you can really clearly hear the cars sucking in the air in a very high pitch. Its a noticeable sound and I personally really like it but not a single video I've seen does it justice. It does depend on the engine though I agree, you can hear the difference pretty well.
I visited the Austrian GP in 2019 and the Mclarens made a very weird high-pitched sound which sounded like a lower volume V8 from a distance, but the Renault with the same engine didn't produce that same sound. Its weird. There seems to be more to the sound than just the engine but I don't know enough about the tech behind it all to know what it is.

the 98t's v6 was a 1.6 liter v6 if im not mistaken, porsche's 919 made somewhere around 750hp on just the four cylinders alone, the thing people dont realize that they dislike about the v6's of todays f1 is that they are extracting so much from the exhaust gases these days that the pitch and tune of the exhaust note has changed dramatically.
remove all the electronic power supplements & those engines would sound pretty similar to the old v6's of the 80s, though they wouldnt be anywhere near as fuel efficient as they are lol..

As a teenager I attended the British GP at Brands Hatch in 1968. Back then the safety protocols were lax (to put it mildly) and the spectators could literally stand along side the track behind a bunch of hay bales. You would be a few feet away from the cars as they screamed by and the V12 Matra engine used in some of the cars sounded just like a dentist’s drill amplified to an ear splitting decibel level and it was so “piercing” that it felt like someone was drilling into your skull. I developed a migraine headache that afternoon from the intense sound of the cars the likes of which I have never experienced before or since.

I think it comes because it’s a bit out of step. Engines with multiples of four cylinders sound very smooth, as they slot neatly into the stroke cycle. The V10 can’t do that, so it sounds like it’s slightly off-beat and that’s what gives it that almost angry sound. I have to agree, as sweet as the V12 sounds, the V10 is something else

I think the V8 is very underrated, the V10 can be seen as overrated, and the V12 doesn’t get enough credit. I love the V12 because it has that deep high pitched noise that can never get annoying at top speed, as the V8 and V10 only sounds best at upshifts. I also think with the V8 and the blowing diffuser at its best is really nice as well. I don’t know if it comes with the engine or the car design but that is great.

It's not about amount of cylinders, but rev limiter. Current cars have fuel flow limit, so they don't rev too high to limit fuel consumption. FIA has attempted to encourage higher revs by removing fuel limit after certain RPM value, but, i guess, teams have already adapted to using lower revs. But, for example, in 2020 you could hear McLaren getting close to that high pitched sound in qualifying. I assume, they were using that exact high revs rule.

is F1 creating climate change all on its own? no, but as time progresses so does technology and more importantly, rules, good luck trying to get a V10 to the end of a race without refueling.
