I love this game so much! It is my second favorite FF, FFVII being the first
Dion saying "I ask not for acceptance. Only forgiveness!" while going toe to toe with Ultima at half strength is the biggest power move of all time. He was the most iconic character in the game.
Tbh I feel all dominants were “eikonic” and well done, but Dion really embodies the regal way of Bahamut and the Empire.
He wasn't at half strength. Generally Eikons are most powerful when thir dominats are not in control

Though he was never prominent in the trailers, I still never expected Dion to be such a standout character in the game. Truly a testament to incredible characterization, dialogue, and acting. Three brothers wasting no time and doing what needs to be done to save their world. A phenomenal scene.
Tbh Bahamut is one of the most epic eikons of the franchise, and I had a feeling he wouldn’t just be some boss fight but a big character.

Dion was so freaking good during the whole game, really wish we had a couple more side quests to interact with him

I think Dion survived too because Dragoons don't suffer fall damage. And he wasn't completely depowered.
Joshua and Dion are dead. Everything points to Clive surviving though
@@justing4794 Joshua freaking wrote the book the kids are reading at the end, he 100% survived. Clive might have survived if they feel like making a DLC and telling that story, I think it cheapens his journey a little. Dion is 50/50

I mean, Ultima manipulated his father and caused him to become a bloodthirsty tyrant, made Dion kill him, and later forced him to unleash his Eikon on his city and kill hundreds of innocent.
At this point, Dion really had enough XD.
While the brothers where getting thrown around DION!! did the first bit of damage. While the brothers had to save one another DION!! Was the one that saved them both in the end. DION WAS THE TRUE MVP

Man, the slowed, somber segment that plays right as Bahamut sacrifices himself brought me to tears.
3 demigods against a God with all their powers.
They for sure took a beating, kinda reminds me of Arceus in Pokemon the Jewel of life.
In that movie Arceus whooped Girayina, Dialga and palkia's ass to Kingdom come.
Tri-disaster gotta be the most badass names you can come up with for an attack
It was also in ff14, but nowhere near as epic as it is here lol. Its more fitting of the name here
I just noticed that FFXVI Bahamut does have a friggin' Third Eye on its forehead. I always thought it as a mere dot before, but after carefully examining it, it's indeed an eye with pupil and all.
Dion was the MVP here, if he could have made another Zettaflare against Ultima, it would be a fast win
Keep in mind that even greatly aged and weakened, Ultima retains all fraction of the power of all Eikons.
It's not possible for a single dominant to beat him. Clive had to absorb all Eikonic powers to have a remote chance.
Dion can’t do another Zettaflare, he was only able to do that because he absorbed a bunch of aether. 2.) Ultima is not going to sit there and let him charge that up😂
We should start calling the three of them tri disaster trio from now on even tho it’s a move that already exists lol
0:32 does a considerably good job of conveying just how out of your depth you may be. Just screams that you're not fighting to beat a god, you're fighting to survive against a god. Then during all of it, you see the health bars come up, then you suddenly remember you need the combined might of THREE Eikons (including one who whooped your ass in base form) to stand a chance. Then there's the fact that after every failed attack and Ultima's counterattack, the song suddenly sounds hopeless again.
This whole battle is basically ultima goes : you thought cinematic strike gonna save you ? nah ...

I absolutely love the use of the instrument theming here, because it sounds like the earlier Ultima fight themes, with Ultima's part using the same familiar melody, but Clive's part being bolstered by the instruments for both Joshua and Dion, to the point that the combined symphony of power completely eclipses Ultima's part once Tri-disaster begins, and then they also swell again more heroicly with Dion's taking center stage when he makes his big sacrifice, only for it to get overpowered by Ultima's theme at the end.
NO BODY = NO DEATH!! Dion survived, found Terence, they adopted the medicine girl and lived happily ever after!!! 🥲❤

Dion was a great character that I wished we got more downtime with, like as a party member and specific quests for him. We also never saw how he looks semi primed.
I believe he is the strongest dominant outside Clive just based on all his feats. The zettaflare was mothercrystal amp though. Still, under his own power he stood up to Ultima to the point Ultima had to actually put true effort into overwhelming him.
His will is super strong, too, as it was stated that when Clive takes the power of a dominant, should they even manage to prime, chances are they will lose themselves like Benedikta. Also, he gets bonus points for one of the very few human characters that doesn't use a sword. I found it so annoying that almost everyone used swords in the game.

I believe he tied to Barnabas, but yeah he's just so badass even without his Eikon power he could wiped out army of akashic just by his Dragoon technique.
Also I've always wondered why bother bringing your weapon when you are priming/semi, then I see what happened to Kupka who got dis-armed (hehe) and realized you can't just go without weapon or you'll be defenseless after priming.
id really love a ffx 2 style prequel with dion ❤
Soken really went extreme on the 16 OST, even more than he did with 14, and 14 is full of amazing soundtracks.
Yoko and Soken truly deserve to be called Nobuo's successors.
tbh I feel 14 has better track's but "Away" lives in my head rent-free, so it has that going for it.
@@RuneKatashima oh I agreed, like I said 14 is full of amazing soundtrack, it just Soken went hard on 16.
I love Yoko Shimomura, but she doesn't put out nearly enough music anymore. KH-3 an FF-15 are great examples, she maybe has 30 songs altogether in the entirety of both those games and to be honest it feels more like 10. FF-16 is my first Soken game and there is so much music in this game that I am dying of happiness, it seems like he tripled or quadrupled what Yoko has done in her last 2 or 3 games.
I actually still really like all her new music, and her PS2 era stuff is literal legend on Ueamatsu levels at times. It might not even be her fault that she only writes 3 songs per game now, it could be some mandate or maybe she's partially retired like Uematsu, which is totally fine.
I guess after FF 15 which at launch was a huge disappointment to me, and KH 3 which was also a huge disappointment again, and she was the main composer for those two games and they had so little music compared to what 16 has just done.

I truly love the first minute of this OST, it sent chills down my spine. Ultima's leitmotif was done in such an intimidating way, especially at 0:32, I remember quickly saying "Oh this is not going to go well".
What a crazy final hour, this game was great.
Ultima's leitmotif is genuinely incredible. An absolute masterwork from Soken. The Typhon fight is so hype because of it.
I truly felt we were fighting God as Final Boss and the situation was hopeless.
Soken and the visuals team are Gods.

Honestly speaking. I wish Shiva was there fighting with Ifrit and Phoenix. The Childhood friends fighting against the evil god of the world.
Dion shouting "ONLY FORGIVNESS" has me full of Goosebumps.
2:11 this part of the song and Ifrit and Ultima slugging it out was legendary
This scene was probably the most badass scene in the entire game.
And in a game like this, that says everything.
I like these QTE fight, you can just watch film and listen to epic music that is perfectly synchronized with every action, especially the scene of the sacrifice of bahamut.
My one issue with the end was that I had no control during this fight. The cinematics are great, but let me give Ultima the hands. Don't give me an HP bar and it just be for show.
Dion is the real hero because if he couldn’t control Bahamut the ending is way darker
Tri-disaster is probably the strongest attack ever created in a ff game in both, numbers wise and lore wise
its a move from FF7 Kujata uses it
infact I think thats called Tetra Disaster
@@xeonaught6942that's a different attack entirely, as kujata just creates four small-scale *natural* disasters as part of a multi-elemental attack, while tri-disaster here is the result of three fully powered eikons each using cataclysmic attacks that all combine into one.

This was truly the start of a final battle, and this all truly gave a sense of hopefulness and hopelessness at the same time and I love it

This section gave me such anxiety bcz I was so scared for the three but man Dion was such a cool character the whole time

I'm kinda confused. It definitely feels classical with this theme. Now, with certain others, such as Titan Lost, Typhon, and such, yes, It was absolutely different and fucking incredible.

Dion/Bahamuth were no doubt the star of this fight. He carried the team so hardfor the entirety of this battle and his sacrifice ensured the brothers' survival and Clive's eventual victory over Ultima. Dion/Bahamuth were so cool in this game.
Not to mention that suicide attack caught even Ultima off-guard.
He wasn't expecting him to pull off something like that.
Dion was honestly my favorite character, he could easily have been the protag.
These trio are op af.. no nations around the world would dare to take it over..

No one mentioned it, but Ultima is kinda a badass here ngl. Three of the strongest eikons and he is literally countering all of their attacks in the most stylish way possible. The eikon boys are all cool too ofc

Dion is arguably one of the greatest characters in Final Fantasy XVI, and his story is fucking incredible. He's a real one for going up against Ultima.
This scene along with the music had my jaw so far onto the floor that my rubber band for my braces popped out and I was just in such disbelief as to what I was seeing and listening to
This right here cemented Dion as the GOAT.
It's a good thing he needed to fight us in Clive's mindscape, because physically Ultima kicked our collective ass's.

As an FFXIV SMN, I was screaming I'm going loose my mind if they do a Tri disaster. Boom Tri Disaster this was such an excellent game.

@@Bahamut3525 I have playing 14 since 1.0. I would say now is a good time to grab it as they have a nice free trial that lets you play one of the game's best expansions.
@Nico35454 The way the story is delivered is pretty similar: slow and deliberate with huge emotional payoffs. The later expansions utilized more cinematic camera angles like in XVI. The gameplay is more focused on dodging AOEs (like you see in Titan and Ultimalius) while doing a rotation of cooldown abilities. I recommend it, but it's a slow burn type of game; there's a reason so many XIV players say, "It gets good after you get to Heavensward(first expansion)"
You can play most dungeons solo (soon to be all), and the community is extremely welcoming to new players.

This theme has a very Uematsu feel to it. They did pretty good in this game with the music.
Dion promised some NPCs to comeback alive to gets his more redemption and rebuilding his homeland. They three all alive as well.
Dion is probably the best Dragoon and Bahamut of the series. period.
Imo its not even close, best mix of power, actual character development, iconic battle/moment, flashy enough. Other Baha's might exceed better at 1 of these aspects but not all combined
Best bahamut ok , but personally I think the best dragoon is Kain from FFIV

Kain and Estinien got the dragoon title, and FFX has the best Bahamut. This isn’t even a question. Just facts.
Obviously it wouldn't be possible because most of the other dominants were evil or diluted but this makes me wish we got all of the Eikons together going against Ultima. I know the ending fight sort of did that through Clive but it still would have been nice to see all the Eikons going toe to toe against Ultima.
