MTA Long Island Rail Road [LIRR] Conductor Gets Mad And Flips Me Off For Filming Trains (9/13/19)

  • READ:
Definitely not good for publicity, considering the LIRR literally just tweeted asking for people to take pictures of the M9 train LOL.
    www.facebook.co...
Thanks for keeping me entertained though.
This clip was featured on NBC news, as recorded by my friend here: • NBC BOIIIIIII
    EDIT:
So some of you are having a hard time hearing this guy, so here are captions:
"Yo, stop filming. Don't film me either."
"YOO, I told you twice already to stop filming; the cops are on their way, alright?" (flips me off, lmao)
The best part of this is that I wasn't even filming him, just the trains. If he had ignored me and not said anything at all, this video would never even exist. But notice that on the M9 (he was deadheading, not part of the M9 crew), he pushed the on-duty crew members out of the way to get to the window just to drop it, yell at me, and flip me off. Peak professionalism right here.
It's unfortunate, because most LIRR personnel I meet are very friendly and professional at their jobs.
Recorded at Nostrand Avenue at 0911a and 0945a.
If you are unsatisfied with this admittedly choppy edit and need further context, here is the full video from Nostrand this morning (spoilers, you're not going to see much more in this video): • MTA Long Island Rail R...

But there are MANY other times where there's a camera literally pointed right at your face which gets annoying over time. Film the trains, not the people operating. It's rude.

Generally I consider train stations private property so i only photo trains if on an open platform like what you are doing. I usually have the problem with carspotting (though very rarely, and only had 3 police encounters, none with arrest and one move-on). Most times, cops either say try another street, but they knew I am not a scammer, but a tourist who enjoys taking pics. It is easier said but confrontations are extremely rare given that I focus on non-foot traffic, and often if the owner wants a conversation indicates they are fine with it. But its public property so they don't have a choice.

Always carry a copy of whatever the equivalent to the Code of Conduct is for your transit system. That way, if you ever get questioned, you can flash it in their face.

I got that attitude too, from two TTC drivers when I took a picture of their bus. One shouted at me behind closed doors, and one gave me "the finger". Though typical operators, can't get enough of them. TBH, most of the time I do, they don't even care, so even like too.

I'm now a train operator for over a year, and I don't mind people recording as long as it is for the purpose of entertainment and educational purposes only. This guy just _had_ to ruin the fun, huh? Glad that he served the punishment he deserves as this is definitely a fire-able offense.

That's professional from the Rail driver. Can't he understand that there are Enthusiast all over the world. Plus today society we carry a camera where ever we go. Whether it's big or small. If the driver stayed in his cab and have his cab windows closed, then we wouldn't be in shot lool. Some people take it too far some times. I will say that I enjoy your video content. Keep it up Bro

There are plenty of transit employees who are unaware that photography is perfectly legal. I've ran into a few Self Appointed Homeland Security Officers myself including a LIRR operator at Jamaica, who yelled at me. The last time I was in Chicago, a motorman on the El asked me if I had permission to take pictures when the CTA website clearly states that it's OK just as long as you don't get in anyone's way. I really let him have it in my voice for stupid people where I enunciate every syllable. I will continue to photograph and video record trains if this pandemic ever ends but even though it's legal, I'll be constantly looking over my shoulder.
