Finally! Someone who doesn't make it look easy! I am terrible at drywall, but with contractor pricing in Maryland I will stick to doing it myself.

I drywalled 1 basement with my dad and I have probably patched/reworked drywall another 50 or so times.
What I've learned is exactly what you've said here: DIY drywall is possible but almost never worth the hassle.
The dust alone is its own monster (it hangs around for months!)
I've seen pros complete a room with 0 sanding at all, just some light scraping with an 8" knife.
Unless you're just patching small damage, hire a pro!!!

Wow, I'm the first of the viewers. Imagine how much better you feel saving the thousands of USD's by doing it yourself and the free experience which means when you do your next house you will do it faster and better. Though since you know about those tube videos I guess you already watched them and know as much as they do now. Great work and you cleaned up the mess nicely. I used a vacuum machine to catch the dust as the sanding progressed -- you missed that video huh! I can't wait to see the ceiling and floor and tour all the rooms when all done. Have a great day.

Hi Patrick - Exactly! I just wanted the satisfaction of doing the whole thing myself. And I hear you on the sanding dust lol. Thanks for the support!

Drywall and fire taping before the drop ceiling would of helped tremendously in fire protection

I know many people who build new homes without the basement and then do it themselves 1 year later so they don't pay property tax on extra "living space"

How high is your unfinished ceiling and how high is the clearance under the ductwork pre/post drywalling around the ducts?
we are doing a similar project, but mostly considering using dryfall black for the ceiling instead of a drop ceiling.

Are you able to add fiberglass insulation rolls before you drywall? Or is that not done in basements?

Curious the reason you hang drywall from the top down...I'm starting to finish my basement and would like to know the reason. Thanks!

Starting from the top down is standard practice. Always board your cieling first and butt up wall sheets to support cieling corners and prevent cracks. Use largest sheets you can get in to prevent unnecessary butt joints. Always run sheets across floor joists on cieling. Avoid installing sheets vertically on wood framing were joints meet can cause cracks in future. Never have joints above doors they will crack. 4 screws per stud on wall sheets 5 screws on cieling joists install 7 screws at every tape joint to prevent cracks.

Would this be considered level 3 or level 4 finish? I’m finishing a basement and plan to hang the drywall myself and hire the finish.

It’s obvious you have a lot to offer the do it yourselfers. Unfortunately for me the speed at which your work is done in the videos ruins the “take aways” a novice like me needs. I would rather see a project being videotaped in real time than the high speed that you use to give a “start to finish” 9-11 minute video even if showing the complete project in 3-4 videos. I love what you do and your finished projects, but they are helpful to me as they are rushed to put out a video.
