The darksaber is a significantly worse symbol for Mandalore than the mask for one simple reason: Mandalorians are known for their helmets, the Jedi for their lightsabers. If anything should ever symbolize the unity and strength of Mandalore, it's the beskar armor that defends and protects them, not the stolen weapons of their enemies. That being said, I'm hoping they can unite as one not under the banner of a symbol, but under their shared culture and resilience. And maybe a kickass mythosaur to ride :D

Well, not just that, there are a couple of hints in both _Rebels_ and _The Mandalorian_ that even in Canon, the Darksaber was traditionally the symbol of the head of House Vizsla, not the Mandalore. Theory - the Deathwatch eventually conflated the two titles.
Notable evidence I can think of:
-In _Rebels,_ Fenn Rau, the Protector of Concord Dawn, saying that with the Darksaber, Sabine Wren could unite all of the Clans within House Vizsla.
-In _The Mandalorian,_ (technically _Book of Boba Fett,_ but that episode was really _Mandalorian_ Season 2.5) the member of Clan Vizsla within the Children of the Watch challenges Din Djarin for the Darksaber, claiming that it was his right because his ancestor forged it. No other members of the Children of the Watch challenge Din because [I wanna say Paz?] was the only Vizsla within the group.

  • @Snappybiscuits
    @Snappybiscuits Pƙed rokem +16

The handle might be the only part that's broken. I highly doubt Gideon had the strength to crush a lightsaber crystal and a unique one at that with that suit of his. But even if he did I'm fine with it being gone. If they do however bring it back I'm hoping that grogu obtained it and uses it to create a lightsaber. Grogu making his own lightsaber from it would make a lot of sense story wise as they don't know the location of other crystals and Luke wouldn't give up the location either. The original handle and blade length would be too unwieldy for grogu to actually use properly. So im thinking that he'll create his own lightsaber to fit his size and also use that favorite piece of the razor crest as part of the lightsaber hilt thus combining the mandalorian/jedi/ and father figure into one entity.

The Dark Saber is an allegory to other mystic weapons like Excalibur and Mjolnir. Though they had to be earned through great effort, Arthur was still, through right of honor, still king of the Britons, and Thor was still the god of thunder. Point being, in a meritocracy like the Mandalorians, courage, honor, sacrifice, and tenacity are what make a good leader, not some blade. The blade is merely a figurehead. What Bo Katan should know is that the blade doesn’t make the leader, the heart does.

I prefer the Mask of Mandalore for the reasons stated in the video but also because it is just a more practical choice. Without the Force it is incredibly difficult to use a lightsaber and doubly so for the darksaber. They are definitely better off with it destroyed and needing a new method of choosing their rulers. Perhaps they could go with choosing based off merit, whoever proves they can lead better than the rest. That could actually facilitate a somewhat NATO like command system, though adapted to their culture. It would definitely make things go more smoothly than they would otherwise go.

Whole mandalorians, and their bobbles, and idea of a spiritual emperor essentially who actually does represent interest of their people reminds me a lot of klingons and the whole plot arc with clone of Kahless(their Og mandalore essentially).
When all wraps up, warf stuck in crisis of faith because basically seen his version of their mandalore but turned out to be a “dont meet your heroes” event. In end, question of his faith is whether or not kahless will return like he was raised to believe. To which the clone remarks something to effect of, “who cares if he never returns, maybe it is not the man who is important, but the words he said that matters”
Ie, yeah. Dark saber (again, theres an equivalent in trek for klingons, sword of khaless), or the mask or this or that. Can lose all of it, but what has made mandolorians, mandolorian, by this point? Can never be lost. Besides, societies that love trinkets just find a fill in eventually, afterall, kinda is part of being mandalorian, cos actually believe in taking care of things they own versus “oh, we’ll just exploit another rim world and make more” mentality of both republic and empire.

An wanted both a leader that was competent, confident an ALSO wasn't gonna be weak, dumb or have anything other then the Mandalorians as a whole's interests at heart concerning them. Something only seemed to be matched by how "Lord of the Rings'" "One Ring" existed to serve Saurons' interests of Evil an only thing it did for itself was try an get back to him.. Imagine if the Darksaber or say any other powerful Force User's blade like Kenobi's, Yoda's or Luke's took on a similar semi sentience like these BUT AND actively SEARCHED out worthy users. Even if one didn't at first appear or even themselves see themselves as worthy.. could be interesting to see

What I like about the darksaber is that it's tied to the in-universe space magic of The Force.
As, not just a lightsaber, but a particularly difficult lightsaber, wielding the darksaber competently would require the same traits it takes to be an effective leader, for good or evil.
Strength of will, sense of self, clarity, resoluteness, ect.
And wielding the darksaber incompetently, along with any other grievances, would make a leader's shortfalls plain to see.
Plus wielding the saber poorly would make defeat at the hands of a successor more likely.
I think it's a fantastic re-envisioning of the Excalibur, gram, or a blade of kings trope in a scifi setting.

The Darksaber is quite divisive, especially if the fandom ends up asking who between the main characters who should be allies are going to survive a fight to the death, but the mask seems to make leadership too open. I mean, is leadership something that should be decided by chance? The mask may have a different story, but it seems to have the same risks as the Darksaber.

Legends>Canon. Sure the darksaber is cooler than a mask, until you know more lore with masks in the Star Wars expanded universe. There are ways to write this stuff so Disney doesn't have to disrespect everything that built the universe it intends to capitalize on and destroy as it converts into a universe more cringe with our own nonsense and erroneous issues they intend to make everyone's issue. I remember growing up with a Disney that made products that could bring families together rather than divide families over issues that are barely real in our universe shoehorned into a universe that could be used to resolve or how to see past these issues, like star trek tried to. But Disney would rather just destroy legacy characters for profit. Destroy the greatest franchise in cinematic history to spread false ideology that has no foundation in genuine reality or perception of what it would do with tomorrow. I just look to San Francisco whenever I think about Disneys stance in their political views. And all these people who cause all this will retire wealthier than any human could require and will sleep like a baby. This is happening in real world politics as well. The world diminishes while those who were in trusted with the future have thrown away any competent approach and just seek profit before they allow it to implode. In my opinion these are the greatest enemies of humans in existence. Until they cease to be the world will diminish more and more everyday whether we are allowed to see it or not. There are no sides in this other than those who see themselves as elites over those who they see as too insignificant to rank on their radar as worthy of human rights. These people are the enemy of humanity and will eradicate it's future just for self gain. When you are starving to death watching your loved ones accept their end without hope, remember how they brainwashed society into accepting their totalitarian self interests with complete pathetic complacency and accept your part in our end.

The saber is clearly better, it's cooler, it can fight against Lightsabers, and unlike the mask, you have to actually earn it. With the mask, all someone has to do is find it and then all Mandalorians have to blindly follow them. That kind of thinking led to the Mandalorian Wars and when that one Mandalorian disagreed and tried to save civilians they got killed and their mask was recovered by Revan who promised to avenge him and stop this bloodshed. I mean if you go with the mask ideology then when Gideon had the saber he could have made the Mandalorians do anything he wants, but the Mandalorians weren't stupid so they didn't follow Gideon just because he had the saber. Some random shumk can't just take charge of things just because they happened to find the mask. The saber, despite some flaws in its ideology, at least has to be earned in some way shape, or form. I appreciate that. I'm not just going to blindly follow someone just because they have something, even something cool like that mask, you have to do something to earn my loyalty and prove yourself so I know you're more qualified and better than me. You did that, Geetsly. I love Star Wars, but just making Star Wars videos isn't enough to gain my favor, they have to be actually good and sometimes thought-provoking, and maybe demonstrate a large knowledge of the lore that goes beyond what I know(proving you know more than me), which is exactly what most of you're videos do, Geetsly. That is why I am loyal to you Grand Master Geetsly, and why you're the only Star Wars CZcamsr I subscribe to (not the only one I watch mind you, but the only one I think is worthy of subscribing too), this lowly Padawan has much to learn from you. Even if I still completely disagree with how harsh you are with the Republic, but since I'm more following saber ideology than mask ideology I don't have to blindly follow you, I'm allowed to challenge you on things and still be mostly loyal.

I would prefer it if Disney stops shiting over George Lucas's legacy Yeah but I actually prefer the dark saver because it's one of the only light savers wielded by non force users..
