  • This is part 1 of my Supertramp camper truck camper tour. In this video, I will walk you through my 2022 Ford F250 Tremor pickup truck and all the modifications I made to turn it into an expedition vehicle. This truck is carrying a 2023 Supertramp Flagship LT camper full-time.
In 2022, I started out putting together an expedition vehicle that should be able to travel off-road and to remote places while at the same time providing me with certain creature comforts and allowing me to work remotely via Starlink Satellite Internet.

This is awesome! I have always wondered why we don't see too many tray / flatbed builds in the US. I have wanted to do one for a while and you have now shown me that it is as great of an idea as I had hoped!

I can tell you, it took me a while to be ready to cut the Super Duty into pieces and convert it to a flatbed. There is no turning back and you are committed at that point. However, I am really glad I did. The extra storage is well worth it.

@@dtadventure4x4 how long did it take the shop from the day that the first parts were ordered until the final product was delivered to you?

@@IdentifyAsRetired It was done in stages. I got the truck in August of 2022. Then I ordered the camper which had a 12 month lead time. I made changes and upgrades gradually based on my learnings.

I am looking at these but will not go over the top with mods on truck or camper. I was looking at a ford king ranch 250 crew with 6.5 bed and 7.3 gas engine. I’m sure that’s good payload for this camper. I hate to modify truck. I like the options your ordered but there are a few I don’t need. The extra extra options I have no need for. All in all looks great. I just want a nice truck that will fit just right and add no truck modifications.

This is the setup i want godzilla F250. Love it. Will be following your trips. Would it be better with starlink?

I tried the regular Starlink and then switched to the high-performance in-motion dish and it is so much better. Should have done that in the first place.

    Very nice setup!
The boxes are also from MITS Alloy? What was the delivery time through Basil's? I agree the tray at the stock height is too high. Not bad if running an Australian-style canopy, but too tall with the slide-in camper. Your solution is much better. Did you loose any functionality or wheel travel by lowering the tray?

Thank you. I lost the centered storage drawer under the bed, but I had not used it at all, so it did not feel I lost anything. The Supertramp camper has its own storage drawer as well.
The lower boxes are Mits, the upper boxes are Mule Expedition. They were designed for a Four-Wheel Camper, but fit my camper perfectly. I would assume they fit most slide-in campers.
Basil did a great job. Mits was not that supportive when it came to lowering the flatbed and Basil and his crew did fantastic work. Looking at the tray and the brackets - I think there is a great opportunity for someone to come in and fill the void.

This is a super nice setup! +1 Do you have any details on the price on the components? I am considering something similar on an F350 gas platform. It will be very helpful. Also, did you consider four wheel campers instead of super tramp? Cheers!

Thank you. I am working on putting a video together about what this whole thing cost to build.
I looked at Four Wheel Campers, OEV, and Alu-Cab + a few others and then settled on the Supertramp. Initially, I was not ready to go flatbed and that kept me away from FWC as the Hawk model just does not offer much storage (even now the newer model is still limited in my opinion). Same thought applies to OEV. The Alu-Cab is good for camping trips, but not to "live" inside and work from it. If I would have known how much I like the flatbed I may have ended up with a FWC Hawk Flatbed, but I am super happy about the storage I have now - which would still be missing from the Hawk Flatbed.

Would you mind sharing what the mpg is with the current setup? I know you said it brings you to tears lol, but super curious how bad it is. thanks and great video!

I recently averaged 9.5 mpg on a road trip up the 395 here in California going all the way to Mammoth. That was a mix of highway driving and a good amount of off-road driving as well - very little city driving during that trip. In the city when at home it goes below 9. But having the 58 Gallon tank pretty much stopped me from paying attention to MPG.

That is nice, but can kiss good bye to that truck a soon as you cross the Mexico border, you never are going to cross Mexico with that truck, don’t recommend it..

Fair point. In general I will start with a few trips to Baja and then take it from there. Other people are making it down to Panama and beyond - so will I.
