    I do not take sides with either competitor but I fell in love with the looks of it. The design is not only so awesome to look at but also more practical from a manufacturing perspective. What someone should attempt is a minimalistic case on this theme that compliments its looks. Linus is right on the cost, they should have released it for a bit less or make a 8GB variant. In any case, we do have a choice. We can opt to be ripped by either Nvidia or AMD.

    Here from the future!
    My Radeon VII has aged beautifully compared to the 2080.
    1: I still have enough VRAM to run games at max textures at 1440p (something the 2080 can no longer do with new titles)
    2: Ray Tracing on the 20 series ended up being a joke. Most users still.used rasterized lighting do to the hit on performance.
    3: My card supports FSR 2 (technically, so can the 2080) which runs much better than DLSS1 and honestly on par with DLSS2.
    Much happier with my purchase these days seeing that the card has aged like a fine wine in comparison to the 20 series equivalent

      @falloutnewvegasboy Před 11 měsíci +2

      @metalchungus6241 Yes, it is a viable upgrade, and the price you've found it at is very low. Though, honestly, it's sort of more of a collectors card and is starting to show its age in newer games for me.
      If you were to upgrade, I would highly recommend something newer just so you get more time out of it. Don't get me wrong, I can still run everything at 1440p 60fps max textures, but there is no Ray Tracing and the card is already 4 years old.

      How in the world has the Radeon VII aged better than the 2080??? That's not true. I bought a 5700XT when it came out and it beat the Radeon VII for a fraction of the price. It still beats the Radeon VII and costs around $200 used. The 5700XT is around 2070 Super performance, the Radeon VII has around 2060 Super performance. Unless of course what you're doing benefits from its RAM. You really should upgrade, I went for a 3090 for $750. Next year prices will drop even more. Radeon VII is too hot for the little performance it gives compared to cards still a fraction of its price used. I suppose there's no harm in still using it, but I would never recommend anyone buy one today.

    • @mycelia_ow

      @@metalchungus6241 The 5700XT costs around $200 used and vastly outperforms the Radeon VII in gaming. Literally zero reason to buy this card, especially used. Back when I had a lot of stock charts going on (Flash or HTML5 graphing stuff), Chrome (and sometimes my computer) would crash when I hit a certain amount of tabs. It was beneficial to leave them up so that I could quickly flip between them and compare. After jumping from a 2GB card to a 6GB card, I could roughly double the amount. (Probably closer to a triple, but who knows - I was eagle eyeing it.) After the upgrade I could immediately add hundreds more to my saved session without chrome and my computer crashing. System memory was 32GB in both cases.
      Your GPU is now used to accelerate all sorts of web stuff, including just compositing the page, drawing fonts/characters, etc.; even drawing a white square in the background is likely now handled by the GPU rather than the CPU, at least for many web browsers on some OS's.
      I'm wrong about the amount of tabs, though. In my own testing, 6GB cards support about 800 before windows gets crazy unstable. In theory 16GB cards could approach the 2000 tab level. At that point Chrome will be gobbling closer to 64GB of system RAM. Just 600-800 tabs already consumes well over 20GB in my experience.

      HBM2 and 4 stacks of 4gb gives the user twice the bandwidth no matter how many GB he is using. It's not about how much memory it's about how to double the speed it reads and writes. Like people who want a cpu that clocks 5Gig or ram that clocks 3466GHz. Like people who pay a premium for quad memory. I don't run 4x8GB sticks of ram because I need more than 16GB total memory. It's because quad is faster than dual channel memory. Radeon VII memory: Utube reviewers cover up the advantage of 16GB of HBM2 by talking only about how much ram do up need. Your letting them think for you. A year after Ryzen 6 core cpus launch and Intel has 6/8 core cpus, Utube reviewers mention a 6 core Ryzen stomps an Intel 4 core at gamming if you stream at the same time. Hide the feature by hammering on something else.

    Go on eBay and take the chance. I'm seeing them as low as $260 US ($320 CAN) per card so for $520 US ($640 CAN) you can get all the GPU cores (4096 cores per card) and a total 16 gigs of VRAM for your gaming AND you work-related vlog editing tasks! few months ago I bought a GIGABYTE R7 25XOC 2GB GDD5, which was making blue screen ,freezes or crash,(display driver crashed and had to recover) mostly when opening steam , or when I was playing Ghost Recon wild-lands.
    after a while it got stable, and could play GRW without crashing , but on steam couldn't play ,used to crash all the time.
    the reason I have it is because it is one of the very few cards that fits with my cpu (i5 660) without bottleneck.
    and seemed to be powerful enough for what I need and could afford.
    I noticed that if I install the radeon driver as it is, the radeon program makes it freeze too, so on youtube someone posted that it is better to do a manual setup using 7zip, which helped and stopped it from crashing from the RADEON prog' . but still kept crashing with steam and games I tried to play from steam.
    the last crashing started few days ago , when trying to play mafia 3, at start I could play, but then I unplugged the HDMI cable ,left with the vga cable only, and since then ...I crashed the game everytime.
    tried to uninstall and reinstall drivers ,the game , steam ... nothing helps.... no idea what to do

      @Lolled9991 They're clearly not using their superior architecture to beat Nvidia. Not in gaming, at least. And even in serious workstation loads most are going with Nvidia. There may be some all around edge cases of people who do a lot of both workloads, but there aren't enough people out there with those specific cases to make AMD a threat currently. Hopefully someday they get it together and can compete again in graphics and drive down price, but at this point its hard to justify investing in an AMD card, since If im doing those kinds of workloads I can either A, afford two specialized systems, or B, have a workstation at the office to deal with those other workloads than gaming and if I need to do something on mine at home I can afford the extra time given that its not the primary use of my machine anyways. Idk, its a confusing play by AMD, maybe just trying to get within punching distance, but theyre not there yet, and I'm willing to bet Nvidia, even if you took away their head start of releasing months ago will far and away outsell with just 2080s vs Radeon VII from today forward, and that obviously doesnt include all the other cards in their lineups.

Like AMD has Advanced Media Framework Encoder as their version of NVENC and actually have something that NVIDIA still doesn't has. Being able to tune/change your color, saturation, contrasdt and so on in the game and in any way you want. I just find it frustrationg to just compare things to NVIDIA "Bulletpoints" and think it is not really representing the actual product if the AMD side of features (even if not superior) isn't even mentioned. Also personally speaking. I had only problems with using H.264 on my 1050 Ti OC + self OC. So it might be cool for the high end but not so much for the lower consumer grade products even while pushed to their outer limits. But still.. Thanks for taking your time replying to my comment. • @KingHalbatorix
      @KingHalbatorix Před 5 lety +31

      Saboth literally would have cost more for them to do that than not to. If you didn't know, the HBM stacks are integrated on the GPU die itself, and the GPU actually needs all 4 stacks populated with hbm in order to even function, because of the memory bus design. A gpu with 2 hbm stacks would have required a hefty redesign which would have cost a lot for RND, so the cost savings would have been minimal to nonexistent and you'd be releasing a lower capability card for the same price.
      The reason amd couldn't have designed it for 8gb hbm2 is because it's just a low binning instinct gpu in the first place. Radeon vii is a low cost radeon instinct that didn't bin well, and because instinct is a creator card it needs the 16gb hbm2. Radeon vii is AMD saying fuckit and finding at least some way to recoup the lost profit from the few instinct gpus that didn't bin high enough to make it into pro cards. This was never meant to be a real gaming card or a competitor to the RTX, it's just a stopgap for Navi.

I think it would be best to keep the product in question (Radeon VII in this case) displayed at the top of the graph and immediately below it are the other comparison products. This way, the viewer won't need to find where the product being reviewed is for every slide. Even if in this case, the Radeon VII is highlighted, I needed to wander about and pause the video to see the comparison. Having the product always be at the top is a quick way to deliver performance comparison info.
