Why self-branding is so hard for graphic designers but so much easier when I design for clients? As a graphic designer, self-branding is always one of the toughest graphic design briefs to conquer.
Committing to one graphic design brand identity route allows your business and personal brand to remain consistent for potential clients and creates brand trust.
When rebranding your personal brand, there are some important brand identity questions to ask yourself:
- Why do I want to rebrand myself?
- What is the purpose of this brand identity rebrand?
- How will a personal branding rebrand benefit my business and I?
- Who is my target audience?
- Where will this rebrand live?
- And from this, what elements need to be created for this brand identity? For example, a primary logo, secondary logo (like a compact logo, logotype or favicon for your website), brand colours, brand fonts, brand pattern, email signature, business quote and invoice templates, youtube channel art, website, social media assets and so on.
Remember:
- Your brand logo should represent your personality and business.
- Your logo and branding should speak for you when you’re not there.
- You must think about trends: am I just following a design trend or is this a timeless logo & branding. Personally, it’s always best to go for the timeless route. You need to create a logo that is timeless and relevant.
- What is the timeline? When do you want to have this all launched?
- Timeless over trendy logo designs
- Less is more in graphic design
- Keep your designs simple: As much as a love crazy, busy, colourful explosions, many graphic design clients aren’t about that vibe for their branding. So for me, I’d rather keep it simple, short and sweet and let my projects and work do all that talking for me.
