  • Which is tastiest: a juicy air fryer meatloaf recipe or the classic oven meatloaf recipe? I’ll show you how to make meatloaf in the oven vs. air fryer - and of course I’ll share which one is my favorite!
First up is the traditional easy meatloaf recipe for the oven, made with the classic breadcrumbs, flavorings, and some veggies baked in. And, I’ll show you how to make meatloaf sauce with just a few basic ingredients!
Next is the oh-so-trendy (but not as convenient) AIR FRYER meatloaf + my even-simpler 2-ingredient meatloaf glaze recipe. This is a tasty, juicy, healthy meatloaf recipe with plenty of veggies snuck into the mix! But, when cooking meatloaf in the air fryer you can’t use a loaf pan, so you’ve got to form the loaf with your hands.
Which is the best meatloaf recipe of them all? And which homemade meatloaf recipe are you most excited to try? Leave a comment below and let me know!

Not everyone has air conditioning. And, while the air fryer does put off a limited amount of external heat, it does not put off the amount of heat an oven will create. The oven heat will linger for some time. The air fryer heat dissipates much more quickly. This is why I have an air fryer.

Air fryer over oven pros: you don’t have to preheat, your house doesn’t get hot like it does when you use an oven, if you’re not cooking for many people you don’t have to turn on a whole ass oven to make food

I have an air fryer oven and I use it all the time. Came with a basket (which I don't use much) and a spit (which I use LOTS) and racks. Easy to clean, just soak racks in warm soapy water for a few minutes and they wipe clean. There are tons of reasons why I like this appliance, I do everything from steaks, to roasts to pies and cakes in mine. And the appeal of it not heating up the kitchen a ton in summer is just bonus.

  • @outsanely

Definitely an interesting comparison! My thoughts-
    1. I always make my meatloaf free-form anyway, so doing do for the air fryer isn't a huge deal for me
    2. I like that the air fryer heats up faster than my oven
    3. I think the air fryer is good for things that you'd make in the oven, but are small enough that heating up the whole oven wouldn't make sense. For example: I like to steam spaghetti squash in my instant pot, so while that's going, I roast up the seeds from the squash in the air fryer. Other options include roasting a veggie side (green beans are a favorite, but it's also good for things like potatoes), or reheating leftovers (I throw leftover pizza in mine for about 5 minutes and it turns out soooo much better than reheating in the microwave). Your single-serve cookies would probably work out well in the air fryer, as well, without needing to heat up the oven.

I like that you don't have to heat up the whole house. You can air fry outside!! I love doing full sweet potatoes in the air fryer until they get kind of sugary. Takes about 25-30 min for 5 potatoes. Much faster and delicious. I don't need to turn them like in the oven as well. Also, tofu is delicious in the Air fryer! I cut extra firm tofu into cubes after patting dry, soak then with Braggs aminos or coconut aminos and fry until crispy about 20 min at 390.

I love meatloaf.... one of my all time fave meals! I don't have an air fryer, but I'm not really sold on getting one other than some things don't take as much time and it uses less energy (smaller space to heat up). That said, yeah, I'd still like to see "oven vs air fryer" videos. It's always interesting to see the difference in things so people can make more informed decisions. Honestly, I think the real reason why I haven't gotten one yet is that it's just one more small appliance taking up space in my really small kitchen.

Absolutely HAIR GOALS!!!! My oven takes forever to preheat, makes my living room scorching hot, and sometimes food comes out dry and flavor need to be added afterwards. Air fryer and instapot foods are loaded with flavor because everything is trapped inside and comes out exactly the same every time, its one pot for everything so no multiple dishes and I have a nonstick inner pot which makes clean up a breeze. No after cook aroma the next day when I walk in the door because instapot traps all odors im pot, meal preps way easier with one dish to down and all foods easy to preheat next day. It's a winner!

  • @vindab06

The advantage of using an air fryer for the meatloaf or any other meat you'd cook in the oven, is that in the hotter days, you won't heat up the kitchen by using your standard oven.

  • @MollyGraceItaly

My mom bought me an air fryer because she thought it could be a nice addition to my house, and even if it's the smallest I've ever seen, I love it! Sadly it's not big enough to cook more than a handful of stuff at a time. I've got to say, though, that I only use it to cook the occasional pre-cooked/frozen foods, and I think that's where it really shines!
I don't have to preheat my oven for a long period of time and frozen foods - especially fries/tater tots - taste, in my opinion, very much just like straight out of a fryer, without the hassle of hot oil and with no lingering smells in my house!

When I need to make chicken wings, yes I do have to make it batches when making more than 12, I just eat what I have already done and then do the next batch, but by the time I eat all 12 from the first I’m full. The air fryer does keep me from using a lot of oil as well.

What I prefer with the air fryer (or counter too conventional oven, I suppose) is the smaller size and how it crisps things up. I live alone so heating the whole oven for my recipes is generally overkill.
I've yet to try it extensively but things like cauliflower bites, wings, anything breaded apparently come out crisper, including when reheating. I'm open to more air fryer or even pressure cooker (or maybe simple recipes using both?)

The air fryer meatloaf was clearly more browned on top than the oven meatloaf before she added the glaze so you can’t claim the thiner glaze is why the air fryer one browned better also by thinning out the glaze/ ketchup with all that balsamic vinegar lowered the sugar content which would make that glaze harder to caramelize.
People who live in hot climates like air fryers because you don’t have to run a large your oven for an hour to bake a 2 pound meatloaf heating up the house that you are paying a lot of money to air condition. Also if you shape your meatloaf a little wider and thinner and cook it at a slightly higher temperature you still get a moist meatloaf in about half the time it takes to bake it in the oven and instead of making. a foil pan which kind of defeats the purpose of using the air fryer anyway just place the meatloaf in a sprayed air fryer basket and a huge amount of the fat will drip away and the sides and bottom of your meatloaf will have a nice” crust” to it just like the top. The nonstick baskets are easy to clean, usually just wipe out the grease in the bottom pan with paper towels and put it in the dishwasher or if anything is stuck after a 10 minute soak in warm water it easily rinses away.

I consider the fact that I don't have to pre-heat an air fryer a big plus. Also our oven is marked 50°c 60, 75, 180, 200 but not at even intervals, so an air-fryer is more precise.

We've been doing out Meatloaves in our Crockpot our oven doesn't reliably stay at proper temperature. The recipe we've been using was also easily converted to be Vegan. It was important that the meatloaf came out super tender so my mom could eat it, we don't own an air fryer so I'm curious how soft it would be compared to the crockpot.

New to the airfryer but i use it instead of the pan honestly... Cause i was really getting tired of havin to clean (almost) the whole kitchen after frying anything in a pan.. And the fries (also veggie fries) are getting a lot crispier than in the oven. Also cleaning the airfrier is waay easier than cleaning the oven... And it's also a convenience thing, cause at least the consori comes with pretty decent working programs so you actually really can reduce time spent in kitchen (homeoffice gal, cooking for 3, at least twice per day since rona hit.)

The air fryer uses less power than the oven and is quicker to heat up. In my family of 6, the temperature of the whole house gets so high with the oven but the air fryer doesn’t make us all sweat. Also I find it to be faster than the oven and is easier to get a crispier surface of the food. Often my family makes our own food so making one serving or one piece of meat in the oven is such a waste. An air fryer is essential for me and my household.

the oven in my apartment is old, and terrible. If you have a nice new convection oven, then yeah it might work as well as the airfryer. Your oven uses more energy, and you might not be cooking more than would fit in the more efficient, smaller sized air fryer.
long story short; energy conservation is probably the only reason why the airfryer would be a good choice for you-- but thats also because you have a nice, new, convection oven.

@MindOverMunch I'd've thought that you would've made the SAME meatloaf recipe for both, for it to be a TRUE comparison. How can you compare the results from the oven vs the air fryer if your recipes are not the same. Using 2 different recipes is like comparing apples to oranges and therefore can't really BE a comparison. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

The main appeal is the less heat factor in the summer kitchen. I have the instant pot/slow cooker/air fryer combo so it’s a multi use piece of equipment for me. It’s also nice when the toaster oven is making a pancake bake to get the chicken meal prepped without making my kitchen 9 billion degrees…
