I remember a video of him from a few years BEFORE Witcher came out, and he comments on how he's learning to play the lute. Either he'd been cast well in advance, or that was some crazy luck.

@@diegosotomiranda4107 I'm curious to see how much of his book characterization and actions they add into the adaptation. The end of season 2 has me hopeful for some things but I guess we'll see how accurate it is, considering how many things they changed in that one season alone.
I still think they have a long way to go tbh, jaskier wasn't as present in season 2 as he was 1 and they're still just toeing the line into serious jaskier. I really hope they give him more time in season 3 and maybe take him more seriously, Joey is an amazing actor and deserves more impactful dialogue.

joey batey’s ad-libs are probably my favorite part of the show. knowing that the “if i _shover_ it up your- geralt.” was improvised just makes that line (and so many others) even better. it adds so _much_ to jaskier’s character that we wouldn’t have gotten without joey. absolutely loved this video!
Jaskier is the perfect balance of everything! He can even choose to be completely comical, or chaotic, or serious, emotional or anything really and yet it would still be a perfect balance! These are the characters we need. Specially when the main character is so specific… we need the flexibility of the other ones

Jaskier is the best. I was surprised to see how jaded and edgy he was this season. But the change suits him. Makes his humor even better. More biting and sarcastic. I loved his character development. And his new dynamic with Geralt and him establishing the terms of the friendship was nice to see. Also seeing him and Yen work off of each other was a delight.

While I adore Joey and his portrayal of Jaskier, I really want the writers to show us the cunning, intelligent side of Jaskier. He’s so much more than just comic relief. Seasons 1 and 2 didn’t have much of that writing wise. Joey brought in so many layers with subtlety in his acting, and imagine what he will be able to do with better writing!
I know what you mean, even though I'm unfamiliar with the source material: In a 1982 adaptation of Sir Walter Scott's classic _Ivanhoe,_ there was a jester by the name of Wamba who, in that adaptation, was played as a simpering, cowardly idiot. But in the original novel, he was, just as you describe Jaskier, far more cunning and intelligent than people around him gave him credit for. Wamba would use this cunning, in his position as "Foole", to plant seeds of troublesome ideas and to subtly insult high-borns to their faces, but get away with it all because he was "just a Fool", and a noble getting angry at the words of a Fool was seen as a weakness.

@@sarroumarbeu6810 Agreed! It's great that Jaskier had a new purpose this season and was using his wits to help the elves. But even then, they made him come across as petty and self-serving, which contradicts everything that Joey says in interviews that Jaskier is an empathetic character who feels others' pain. They did him a dirty this season, and the only reason I still love and adore Jaskier is because of Joey. Joey is perfection.

Jaskier is hands down the best part of the show for me. I hope season 3 continues in giving Jaskier more depth. I love him for the comic relief and his sass but there's so much potential there for a deeper character and Joey portrays him so perfectly. Jaskier was the deciding character for me in the series, his interactions with Geralt made the show. Season Two Jaskier was so much more, so multifaceted, and I can’t wait to see more of him in the following seasons. Thank you to the amazing Joey Batey!

Second season Jaskier was so great I actually went back to see the first season again and I found Jaskier there even more loveable than before. Joeyis always wonderful but the writing of his character was better in the second season in my opinion.

I was really disappointed how they wrote his dialogue for the last episode. He just became a comic relief while there was so much potential to open him up and show us his different side. Up until the last episode everything was so much better than season one but alas, here we are.
I agree 100%. Feels like they hadn't put any thought into what Jaskier's role in the last episode could've been :'D Especially with the random rock Yennefer gave him, which ended up feeling like a forced way to make him involved lol

OMG AGREED! That particular interaction between him and Lambert towards the end made me cringe so hard. Like why? Why was that scene added? It wasn't funny at all. It made me feel bad for Jaskier, who is never taken seriously.

What a lovely character study! We need more of these!!!! As much as I LOVE Henry as Geralt, I COMPLETELY LOVE Joey Batey. Every time he is on screen, hubby listens to me say "God, I love that man." EVERY SINGLE TIME he's on screen. And his Jaskier is such perfection that I refer to him AS Jaskier - like that is his real name. Joey is just an alias. LOL Their chemistry is just so amazing and they are so perfect together and can't get enough of them in the seasons.
This was soooo good! I would have loved to have heard Joey talk about the scene where he had to freeze his pants off in the water. That couldn't have been easy to have shot. I love listening to him talk about the show and the character -- you can hear how much he loves Jaskier as a character when he talks about him.
It’s a shame all the chemistry he has with Henry will be gone in season 4…
Seeing Jaskier's courage & self-worth glowup - so that he's gone from merely a swishy adventurer + an inveterate doormat, to a flamboyant _hero_ + someone with real standards for the treatment he's willing to accept - was my single favourite thing about season 2.
Also the song "Burn Butcher Burn" which (as well as, to a lesser degree, "Whoreson Prison Blues") is IMHO right up there with greats such as "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor, "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morrisette, "Cry Me A River" by Justin Timberlake , "I Hate You So Much Right Now" by Kelis, "There You Go" by Pink, & "Rolling In The Deep" by Adele in the Best Angry Breakup Songs Ever Written category.

Thank you for new Jaskier/Joey Batey content! He was the perfect casting choice for Jaskier, and stole nearly every scene he was in during season 1. While it was a treat seeing some further exploration of Jaskier without his relationship to Geralt to define him, it still does feel like the writers dropped the ball a number of times with this character in season 2. Hopefully, we’ll get much more of the competent, take-no-s#!t Jaskier in season 3.
I always thought the wordplay in "... if I shoved it up your Geralt" perfectly sums up what Jaskier thinks about Geralt between leaving him on the mountain and being freed from prison by him

So awesome they made the comic relief aspect of season one a strength.
It worked well initially, it didn't really clash but there was this building tension. You wondered why Jaskier would put up with the grumpiness and seemingly being unwanted and kept on bringing the positive mood. It couldn't have worked much longer. At the same time, the adventure and wonder slowly changing to a less fun world to live in.
This was written so well, the frustration of being underappreciated and not taken seriously gave actual character growth. And eventually this makes for a better bond, a more equal friendship.
but i bet despite the cold shivering weather , that scene and energy with singing and playing made quite the warmth , i personally feel like that when i play my guitar and i'm not even singing , so yeah i can relate ;)
Jaskier was a jack of all trades man. This interview only showed how much he cared about his role in the show. This is an acting masterpiece imo but thats just me

I'd love more Uncle Jaskier and Ciri in season three. I think it'd be a nice way to get Ciri to enjoy things more instead of the brooding Geralt. Jennifer may be like a mother figure but she's suffered a lot too. So I think Jaskier would be able to show a different perspective on life to her, maybe even play on that with Geralt some more. Jaskier's smart, and the show could show more of that. We got to see that with how he helped the elves, but with Djiskstra going after him could be the thing to so just that. Of course Geralt always saves him in the games, but I'm not sure if the books were the same way? They could have him dealing with it or running away and Geralt shows up to help. I don't know, we got back stories on the others and Jaskier deserves something else. Definitely room to grow as Joey says he's already starting. Will be interesting to see how the show progresses

The show has some very big differences to the books, but Joey and Henry combine the book characters with the show version of them so beautifully. They add so much dimension and this is one of the first book series where I can genuinely say I enjoy the adaptation, and a lot of that can be contributed to the chemistry between these amazing actors

I'm thrilled with the way Joey played Jaskier, he's an incredibly talented actor. Jaskier in the series is just a ray of light among the darkness, just for the sake of him (well, and the plot), I watched the series. I really hope for further character development in the third season
Heard complaints about the series, but watched and loved it. I will say I was a little saddened that during the final 'family' scene with Ciri, Yen, and Geralt looking over the bridge a part of me had hoped there would have been a shot of uncle Jaskier there as well. He is a main character in my opinion and basically Geralt's best friend.

When I read a couple of the books (after watching season 1) I was surprised with how badass Jaskiers character was in the series. If I remember, he was a pretty amazing spy, and in one scene was even a pretty cagey fighter. Not to mention he fought for good causes on his own accord.
