- In this video, i will show you a TRICK all the Pros use to kill weeds.
Have you tried various herbicides, but nothing seems to be working effectively? Well, we have a solution for you! Adding ammonium sulfate to your herbicide can greatly enhance its efficacy and ensure that you kill all of those pesky weeds once and for all.
Ammonium sulfate is a chemical compound that is commonly used as a fertilizer due to its fast acting high nitrogen content. However, it also has another lesser known use, which is as an adjuvant for herbicides. An adjuvant is a substance that is added to a herbicide to improve its performance by enhancing its ability to be absorbed more effectively.
The benefit of using ammonium sulfate is that helps to reduce the pH of the herbicide solution. This is beneficial because many herbicides are more effective in acidic conditions, and the addition of ammonium sulfate can create the ideal pH level for the herbicide to work at its best.
It is worth noting that not all herbicides can benefit from the addition of ammonium sulfate. However, for many herbicides such as 24D, Dicamba, and Quinclorac, the addition of ammonium sulfate can greatly enhance their efficacy, making them more effective at killing weeds and reducing the likelihood of weed resistance.
In conclusion, adding ammonium sulfate to your herbicide can greatly enhance its efficacy and ensure that you get the best results when it comes to weed control. So, if you're looking to get rid of those pesky weeds once and for all, consider adding ammonium sulfate to your herbicide and see the difference for yourself.

Thank you for watching! - Jak na to + styl
Love that you always show results in your videos. A lot of people can talk the talk but don't walk the walk. Another banger man!
Thanks bro! means a lot!
He's a modern day warrior
2,4-d is a synthetic auxin, as is triclopyr, quinclorac, dicamba, etc. Auxin is one of the hormones in the plant that regulate growth. It plays a large role in the ability for plant leaves to track the sun. By giving the plant an overdose of auxin is disrupts this process. Any high nitrogen source will accelerate that process. This is why it works especially well with group 4 herbicides. While the ph plays a small role here, there are more factors at play. It's a really good tip though and one usually only the pros utilize. 👍
Thanks for sharing boss! im not a chemist or an agronomist so i really appreciate the input you shared!
I've been watching your channel as a new comer, watching you about two weeks. I learned a lot of new tricks and how to maintain a healthy yard. I had no knowledge of about herbicides and about yard care until I watch a few videos and subscribed to your channel. You are one of the very best!
the fact of adding rush into the video alone, more points to the video
It also makes your herbicide work better! 👍
I was about to bail til I saw your comment than had to stick around for the Rush lol.
Thank you!!!!!
I now know why my efforts were less than ideal. I have the confidence to really make our yard pretty this year!
😂 I didn’t have the volume loud enough. I heard “weak a$$ herbicide” instead of “weak acid herbicide”. 😂 1:08
Lmao I heard that too when editing 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Another excellently produced, quality video, George!
Thank you so much!
George, I mean this in the kindest way. You are such an unassuming guy but boy do you deliver the goods. Keep up the good work at keeping us informed on lawn care. 👍
I appreciate that sir! you just made my day 😀
Morning coffee and a chat with George. That's the start of a great day!
😊
Morning Ian! Enjoying a cup of Joe myself 😃
Have a great day!
Super information - I love how you really dig into things and give a real education of what and WHY. Excellent.
Hi George,Neil here also from NW Suburbs Chicago, love all your video and pls continue to make videos related to lawn care...helps new home owner and newbie to lawn like me...just followed this recipe and totally nuke the dreaded clover weeds...
George, your impressing the heck out of me with your videos. I’m learning all kinds of things. Thank you young man
No problem Larry! Appreciate the nice comment 😃
Thanks for this great tip. Ive been using AS for years and never never knew this. Will tri it tonight here on the Cape
great advice. been preaching this for a very long time.
Thanks ginja 🫡
Appreciate you stoppin by bro
So proud to be a subscriber and follower of you, George! I have only one weed in my lawn, POA, but TONS of it!!. I’ve watched every one of your videos and am preparing to spray a combination of Pyrex, quinclorac and ammonia sulfate to decrease ph. I will also add methylated deed oil. Do I also need to add surfactant if I use the seed oil? What are your thoughts? Would you use other ingredients or do it differently? I live in your area north of Chicago, so similar lawn. Thank you for such excellent videos and always replying!
thank you so much neighbor! POA is tough and even though your applying that extreme combo i wouldnt have the expectation that it will control it, it will fursure cause damage but still may come back next season
Excellent, straight-to-the-point videos. Keep up the good work. I am now a subscriber.
Appreciate the sub guy!
see ya around!
Good work brother. I'm getting more and more into your channel. I see you got the Milwaukee sprayer you were talking about awhile back.
Thanks bro! and yea we just got it a few days ago, liking it so far!
Oh man, that side by side comparison hit hard. LOL love the sound effects 🤣
haha thanks brian, maybe it was a bit toooo dramatic haha
Fantastic content!
I subscribed before the videos end! TY!
appreciate the sub boss!
Really appreciate the clear and complete explanations in your videos. Can the Amonium Sulphate be used in Spectracide Weedkiller for crabgrass. Didn't see it in the list on your video. Just wondering. Looking forward to more good yard advice.
Thanks for the great video. I have some patches of white clover, which I know is tough to eliminate. Would adding ammonium sulfate help kill the white clover?
Love it this Video George. I have been using Gordon’s Weed and feed. And I have had some great results with it as long as I maintain a couple sprays a year. But it is in the Bucks for a 2 1/5 gallon container
You do such a great job in your videos. Explaining and proving - awesome. Thanks.
Thank you sir 🙏
Very informative and well produced!
Much appreciated!
George, Thank you brotha 👍🏽💨you’re the man !
Appreciate that Ray! so are you!
Thank you for the info!
Are these herbicides taking the weed out genetically? Do they kill to the root?
Great presentation. Love a video based on facts and not on feelings. Keep it up.
Appreciate that!
Okay so what you didn’t mention is that when you use nitrogen with herbicides or even fertilizers is that when you’re applying them through foliar application the plant translocates the herbicide/fertilizer freely through the phloem of the plant as nitrogen does. So the plant does the work to move the herbicide freely up and down the plant. Always add a nitrogen source to any sprays. Urea and amino acids work great as well but if you need to pH down your herbicide then ammonium nitrate/sulfate will do it well! Using a wetting agent works to make your foliar applications stick so you end up using less herbicide which is more money in your pocket. Excellent video
Thanks for sharing your expertise boss! What are your thoughts on adding AMS to Tenacity? Reason i ask is because there alot of people in the comments asking and i've read dif opinions on it.
@@PrincessCutLawnCare the same principles apply. You can cut your tenacity by 25-50% and add in your NH42SO4 at 1% should be plenty do some test plots like you did in this video.
great job I have beed putting liquid fertilizer in my weed killer for 3 seasons but now I know why it works and what better to use
Good stuff man, learned a new trick. Got some weeds in the neighbors lawns I need to spray out.
sweeet! your a good neighbor!
We add ammonia sulphate ( ams ) to herbicide applications spray crop fields as well. Spray grade ams is sold in 51# bags for the ag industry. Balancing your water is important as well. High alkalinity water will also benefit from acids such as citric and others.
thanks for sharing your experience sir!
always nice to hear from the farmers
Awesome job george!
Thanks Ben!
"Never kill weeds like before" or "kill weeds like never before?" 🤔 sorry cant help myself, but i love your content I'm a subscriber.
😂 Thank you sir 🙏
Democrats let illegals in like never before and created the worst economy like never before.
I came for the info….. 0:42 I stayed for the Tom Sawyer! 👍🇨🇦🍺
Hey it got you to leave a comment about it so it worked
@jay doe 😂
Thank you so much!
Great video, thanks!!
Thanks for sharing!
After applying herbicide weed killer, how many days should I wait to water the lawn?
Nicely done George, The heat exceleration helps crush those weeds👊
Thanks Chris!
Always great info thanks again brother
good morning Allen! and thank you!
What are your thoughts on vinegar/epson salt/dish soap, organic spray vs. all these chemicals? Ever tried it?
I ordered my bag and look forward to using it soon!
Sweet!
George if I live in south Florida with saint Augustine grass can I still follow you videos thanks
George, great stuff man. Does this method work for the pro grade herbicides too? So I’m safe to dose my Speedzone/Tenacity cocktail?
Thanks! and yes it will work fine with that combo.
it will be great for the speedzone but will have little effect on the tenacity (unless you have hard water)
Just wanted to say your method of killing weeds with Weed B Gone and ammonia sulfate worked wonders for me in my situation. I've been trying to get rid of these nasty clovers and red glovers for years. This method worked marvelously for me. I noticed next day how they all shriveled to almost nothing in a day. Yes I guess I could have called in a professional to rid them from my yard but I enjoy working on my lawn. Thank you very very very much!
no problem Scott! Happy to hear that!
Nice to finally watch a video (from anyone) about weed control that's applicable for us folks up here Canada. Thanks George!
No problem sir!
Hopefully we can add a little spiciness to your guys weak selection
Is it because he played the intro to Tom Sawyer?
@@rwmullis79 one of the best if not THE BEST rock band ever to come out of Canada. RIP Neil Peart
Curious about that seed head that still developed after being sprayed with the super killer.
Thank you, very helpful 😊
So glad!
Got some speedzone with Lawn Life recommendation now gotta get ammonium sulfate with Princess Cut recommendation 😊🔥🤙🏾🙏🏾 Banger! 😊🤙🏾
oh man speedzone + AMS...
that sounds like a killer combo!
How much Ammonium Sulfate do you need to use? You have the best videos! I'm really happy they are applicable to Minnesota too!
He says in the video 😉
Love your videos. Super informative and detailed...plus I love how you show results too. I have a quick question I was hoping you could give me your opinion on. I live up in Niagara Falls Canada (Zone 6) and I am a pretty avid gardener. I try to practice organic farming methods as much as possible. One of these methods is to make my own compost. To do so, I need a high nitrogen organic source to mix with my organic carbon source. The source I use is grass clippings. Along with being an avid gardener, I really take pride in making sure my lawn looks awesome! Well, because I use my lawn clips to make my compost, I don't spray my lawn anymore with herbicides. Do you know how long herbicides stay (in traces) into the plants that they are designed to kill or the surrounding grass that it does not target? Do you know if in fact the herbicides leech into the soil and stay present for years (this is what I have read) and finally, if the herbicide does stay in the soil, do the plants planted into the soil take up that herbicide? I'm trying to be as heath conscious for me and my family as possible...but sometimes I wonder if it is all BS. I mean, you can get your hands on compost from your local regional municipality every year for free and they cannot guarantee the grass that was brought it did not have herbicides sprayed onto them. Your opinion or advice would be amazing. Thanks again and keep up the great work.
that you so much! it really all depends what herbicides you use, some stay in the soil for longer than others
when it comes to general broadleaf weeds control you will want to stay away from 24D as it can be mobile in the soil for up to 2 weeks although i suspect a bit longer
If you're looking for a general broadleaf control that has (relatively) low toxicity than your best bet would be triclopyr and mesotrione, they are excellent at controlling weeds and are not as soil mobile as 24D, you can even use them when seeding new grass
@@PrincessCutLawnCare Thank you for the information!!! That is great to know which herbicides stick around longer than others and which ones a more toxic. My main goal or want would be to use something I can apply in the middle of the summer (like now) for the next month, and have it do its thing but be gone from my grass and soil by the following spring. This way I can begin to use my grass again for my compost needs at the end of the winter and spring and do the herbicide thing again in early to middle of July net year. Can you confirm that is the case with both of these you recommended?
How would one do this with a hose end sprayer? I have acres, a pump sprayer is a no go.
Been trying to take control on my yard.. the weeds have taken if due to neglect, (my medical issues).
In South Florida St. Augustine what Herbiside would you recommend..
Is there another YT'r you could recommend in the Sunny Hot South where all we have is St. Augustine and Weeds, that has information like you share ?
Your Videos and INformation is great -- 2 Thumps Up !
Great video. Can I add this to round up to enhance it? Actually, I buy the TSC brand which is the same stuff but, if I can add that extra knock out punch it would be great.
Thanks! Yes, it work’s especially well with round up 👍
I wonder if vinegar would do as well (thinking back to Jerry Baker's 'recipe')
What if i just mix diesel exhaust fluid in with my herbicides? Thank you. Skip McCain
I dig the groovy Rush samples in your video.
RUSH makes your herbicide work faster! 👍
@Princess Cut Lawn Care What is mixer paddle that you use ?
I like how you used the beginning of Tom Sawyer by Rush as you change clips 😊
Thanks! 😊
What would be the result if you just used more herbicide, equal to the added amount of other chemical ?
brilliant! as always thanks! 👊
Thanks!
What is the sprayer that you're using obviously in Milwaukee battery powered and what kind of warranty is on them price price and anything else I should know about it?
George, great video! Any suggestions for dealing with quack grass?
Thanks Chris!
Quack grass is tough.. your best bet is to round it up and reseed. I know that’s probably not what you wanted to hear!
@@PrincessCutLawnCare yep kinda bummed out about having to go with the nuclear option but thank you for letting me know your thoughts.
I tried this on my lawn this past Sunday.
It’s Tuesday and I am already seeing results.
Thank you👊🍺
Great to hear boss!
Great video, did you add surfactant to both batches and if you did not would you recommend a surfactant to make herbicide more effective ?
thanks! no surfactant was used at all.
normally i would add it but to keep things to the T for the video i did not as the label does not call for it.
But yes, normally i would def recommend it.
Thanks George
No problem Doc! Have a great day!
I wanna see in the next video for the 3 different types of surfactant/adjuvants... and then more specifically surfactant for fertilizer and then clay compaction... summer heat etc etc
Great content idea! jotting them down in my notebook now!
appreciate you sharing!
I’ve used clear ammonia for many years, cheap and easy to find.
Have used triclopyr 8 oz/ 1 gallon water during heat of the day for Trumpet vine/ Tree of heaven for years now. Fertilome brush and stump killer brand is the only thing that will faze these! Will try adding A.S. into next batch, thanks for tip!
No problem Bill! Good luck!
What is the best way for insect control?
Thanks for the great video's 😊
No problem! what type of insects?
Another option and some more insight into what the commercial guys do is add a product like LESCO Spreader-Sticker which helps the wetting and sticking capability of what you’re putting down.
great point! we actually have a video about surfactants coming up
appreciate you sharing! i noticed you have a channel, nice to meet you man, just subbed 😀
Thank you! I have some horrible weed here in Southern California, it has some kind of thistle and a purple flower. It's horrible! I'm new with this and I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm going to add this ingredient to my concoction 😺
No problem! Good luck! You got this!
This is great!
Thanks Robert!
Why do you use Ortho weed killer? I use Spectracide's Weed Stop since it's label claims to kill about twice the number of weeds as Ortho? I mix mine with Sedge Ender (I fight nutsegde in my flower bed) or glyphosate depending on where I'm spraying. I have started using dawn as a surfactant and per your advise I will try the ammonium sulfate in 2024. Thanks for all the videos. I enjoy them.
Best part of AS is that it's cheap! Great video!
Morning chuck! And thank you 🙏
Yes truly helpful video and cool to see the difference great job George!
@@vinnypinatelli221 Thanks Vin!
Good info, but the best thing about this video is the repeated Rush Tom Sawyer bits. Nice!
How are you liking the Milwaukee sprayer after having it for some time? I saw pretty mixed reviews for it so curious on your thoughts. New sub here, appreciate your content as I recently decided to tackle my own lawn care program.
Hi Eric, we like the sprayer except for one thing, the tank opening is very small and it is pretty inconvenient to premix solutions and pour them in there using a funnel. We have since sold it and are actually in the market for a new sprayer
Got this confused with ferrous sulfate, is this used in the exact same way/results?
Great info
thanks!
George, can the ammonium sulfate be used when you're doing a blanket spray of your lawn or would it just be for spot weed spraying?
yes no problem 👍
Always great videos but I'm loving the Rush music
Good ear Robert!
Love the channel 1st and foremost.
But one thing I didn’t notice is that surfactant was not mentioned. Did you use it on this application? Doesn’t look like it was needed if you didn’t nice job. Just asking because I need to do this to My Lawn.
Appreciate that Ryan!
I did not use a surfactant as it was not required per the label and I wanted to keep things to the T for this experiment. However I normally would use a surfactant so please feel free to do so with your application 👍
Can you add Ammonium Sulfate to the DIY weed killers / vinegar, salt, dish washing liquid etc. ?
only use it with the herbicides listed at the end of the video
I just occasionally watch your videos and I like them. I had plenty of weeds in my front and back yard. In the front I just got rid of the grass and mosquitoes and other insects were gone like magic! In the back yard I use vinegar salt and dish soap and that kills the weed in 3-4 hours which is better than your results but you need full sun to get those results. Just my humble opinion..
Tks George. In your opinion, can i use this with Tenacity as a pre-emergent?
No problem! i would not use with tenacity nor any pre emergents,
I bought some spectracide concentrate that I was planning spraying through my end hose sprayer. How would you go about adding ammonium sulfate to the mixture? Thanks in advance!
I would only use this method in a backpack sprayer
Can you add ammonium sulfate to the weed killer that connects directly to a hose? I have a very large area (multiple acres) to kill weeds in and using a sprayer like you are using will not work for me.
Can i add this to tenacity?? I ordered it and it would be nice to actually use it😮
Does this (or surfactant) work with FEHEDTA? Concentrated iron seems like a pretty weak herbicide, wondering if it's missing something like AMS or if that would just make it harm the grass more
Rush was a nice touch. Would a surfactant improve results?
Thanks! And yes absolutely 👍
My lawn doesn’t have many weeds, but does have violets now. And they spread quickly. Can I use this for them? Or are these just for a broad leaf weeds? Thanks, enjoy your videos
Yes you can use it with triclopyr which the the herbicide to use to control violets
Can you tell me the type of sprayer you were using in this video?
Hi Debbie! its the Milwaukee M12 12-Volt 2 Gal. Lithium-Ion Cordless Handheld Sprayer
Do you live in Illinois? Saw your story about Tim Wallace Landscaping and I thought, hey I know where that is…. Great channel
Thanks neighbor! And yes, I live right down the block from Tim
@@PrincessCutLawnCare awesome I’ve driven past that place 100 times and I’m gonna go get myself some screened topsoil. Thanks to you.
Do you think this will make fungicides more effect too? I've contimplated on using them. Pete from GCI sells some but it's a bit different than this and requires a pH test every application. Not trying to over complicate things
Reel, no AS would not generally help fungicides although a good surfactant would by increasing coverage, most of the older insecticide chemistries needed buffering of the water( Malathion ie.) however most of the newer insecticides like the pyrethroids( Bifenthrin) and neonicticoids (Merit) are not especially ph sensitive. In the Ag world Ammonium Sulfate is used as a water conditioner for the Roundup chemistries as they are easily neutralized by hard water and dust while spraying. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info. I have a lot of chain link fencing and am only interested in ground clearers, sterilants. Will this amplify my results?
will not work well with sterilizers however it works especially well with ground clearers such as glyphosate and pelargonic acid just keep in mind those 2 will not sterilize the soil
Would you have a recommendation for a really good sterilant? Thanks for the quick response.
Have you ever dealt with 'whitetop' - a.k.a. Hoary Cress?
It spreads with rhizomes and has an extensive root system.
My experience has been that some of it will die in the first spraying but the areas that have gotten really established for years and build up strength will die when sprayed in the spring and will go away all summer but will come back in the fall, so you kill it again and then it will come back in the spring. Eventually after enough years of spraying it will die but it doesn't seem like the chemical is getting all the way down to the deepest roots in the well-established part of the weed patch.
Very true, that’s a tough one to kill !
I have good results adding epsom salt, also encouraged plant uptake!
Interesting! Thanks for sharing!
@@PrincessCutLawnCare I gained this information from a old hippie. Sometimes nature can surprise scientists.
If you add a surfactant to this mix would it make it better?
This reminds me of spraying a corn field full of weeds years ago. Didn't spray before we planted, time was short. Weeds were bad and corn was 10-12 inches high, but the weeds were growing faster. I spayed 24D and Atrazine mixed with straight 28% liquid urea. By the end of the week it look bad, everything was yellow and laying down. 2nd week the corn was starting to perk up. 3rd week, lush dark green corn knee high, brown dead weeds on the ground.
Dicamba was much better than 2,4,D
@@robertreznik9330 Don't recall hearing of it back in the 70's.
@@Mr-Corey-June It was the active ingredient in Banvel. Worked great when corn was in V1. I used it as a directed spray later.
I was adding ammonium nitrate (33.5-0-0) to roundup as a leaf fertilizer to speed weed killer circulation to the roots. It seems that you are doing something more to that. (I know pure ammonium nitrate is an explosive enhancer but in my place is sold as fertilizer)
This is amazing! I am in zone 5 and will be using a combo of SpeedZone and Tenacity on my lawn this weekend. I can't find pure ammonium sulfate. Could I use a 15-0-0 liquid fertilizer that contains ammonium hydroxide, urea and 6% iron sulfate instead?
thanks! and yes but ammonium sulfate will be more effective
@@PrincessCutLawnCare Thanks for such a quick reply! Then I will keep looking for the ammonium sulfate!
Add a couple drops of dish soap to make the herbicides stick better
