i was a prefect in St.Augustine's R.C. school in Huyton. i used to shout at a small lad with sticky out ears who just wanted to run with his footie kit and get out to the school field.'stop running Reid!'...that was me 1970. 15 years later I was roaring him on at wembley and Rotterdam in two finals and saluting him as the league trophy paraded Goodison. his brother lived in our road and one day he was mowing his front lawn in the England shirt that PETER WORE IN THE WORLD CUP! happy HUYTONIAN and EVERTONIAN days. I saw Peter Reid playing for Bolton not long after Peter Thompson had arrived from Liverpool. AlthoughReidy showed promise and craft he wasnt in same class as the very talented Thompson. With them both and Big Sam centre half they went on to be promoted to the old 1st division. Thomo hung up his boots and Reid went on to develop into an England player (wth Everton)

There was a time kids, when Everton were actually better than Liverpool. It was a sunny Saturday afternoon in May, mid 80s to my recollection. I remember, because it was the same day that I choked on a piece of steak at the shock of the moment.

Liverpool have been ahead of Everton for decades now. Everton even at their best were not better than Liverpool. Liverpool always had better players, managers, more trophies

​@@sib1930 Not entirely true now, is it? The Everton side of 84/85 were far better than the Liverpool side of same season. Won the title, Cup Winners Cup, and were pipped in the FA Cup final. They were regarded as the best team in Europe at the time.

​@@lfcspectre4335 I'm referring to that particular season. In fact, Everton should have won the double in '86, not Liverpool. Everton, drew or lost their penultimate game of the season, which ultimately cost them the title. In the FA Cup Final, Neville Southall wasn't available. Probably would have won the European Cup if there hadn't been the ban. They also won the title in '87.
