In December of 2020, China and Nepal made a joint announcement about a new measurement for Mount Everest: 8,849 meters. This is just the latest of several different surveys of Everest since the first measurement was taken in 1855. The reasons why the height has fluctuated have to do with surveying methodology, challenges in determining sea level, and the people who have historically been able to measure Everest.
We mention this NOAA post in the end tag of the video, which addresses another way to measure the height of mountains: oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/h...
NOAA has more information about the geoid here: oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/g...

K2 doesn't actually have a proper name, because the letter-number combination was just a way a survey at the time (not sure if it was the same one talked about in the video) categorised mountains. It is so remote that it is unknown whether anybody had ever actually seen the mountain before the surveyors did, and climbing K2 is so much deadlier than climbing Everest that it is rather fitting that it's simply known as K2, rather than being given a name that humanises it.

Surprised this video doesn't mention the intentional inaccuracy of the first measurement. When the British Officer Andrew Scott Waugh first measured and calculated the height of Mt. Everest, his result was exactly 29,000 feet. Not wanting people to think he made a rounding error, he added two feet to get the declared result of 29,002 feet.
It also means Waugh can be said to be the first person to ever put his two feet on Mt. Everest ;)
