As a Black American. CULTURALLY we take in troubled kids, neighbors kids, friends kids, etc. most of us have childhood friends that had a bad home situation and they literally became our family. A lot of those kids went on to become GREAT. There is no applause. There is no movie. There is no awards. Just people with a caring heart, and compassion. Just how it goes in our community ❤

I came from the children's home across the street from my grandmother who used to work there. She told my Mom and Dad about this sweet little girl who sat quietly in the corner(I am a black woman for the record)and some months later I was adopted. Never did I ever feel that I was not wanted or loved. I saw my family take care of friends and neighbors kids as well. So I totally agree with you.

I'm a white guy and I saw through the BS when that movie came out and everyone was ranting and raving about how uplifting it was etc. And yes, the scene where the sassy and fearless white woman went into the hood ALONE to assert herself was absolutely ridiculous. That family absolutely exploited Michael and they knew full well what they were doing which is why they went silent and had their lawyer speak for them. If you have nothing to hide you speak the truth when asked. And now that they're exposed they have nowhere to hide. Much respect for Michael and hopefully he wins his case. Because he deserves to.

They put trust in them that they would be honest and take care of things while we were gone and didn't find out until months later when we come home, find their accounts drained. This is so sad. As an adoptee this movie gave me so much hope growing up. The stigma around interracial adoption is hanging by a thread because of the undertones of the white saviour complex. While these issues are real not all adoptions represent this. That’s why this movie moved me because it seemingly showcased an unadulterated love that one can find for someone different from oneself. This is the grossest example of exploitation I have ever seen. I always side-eyed this situation. so much so that I haven't even seen the movie "The Blind Side". Something about this family rubbed me the wrong way, and it looks like my hunch was right. P.S. I recently read his first book, I BEAT THE ODDS (2011). In that book, he detailed the many false things that he said were in the movie. He took MAJOR issue with how he was depicted in the movie (his honor roll student status in college strongly suggests that he is NOT an idiot, but merely his very chaotic childhood led to denied educational opportunities). Even through the book, I got the sense that he was estranged from the Tuohys at that point (e.g., using a third person to settle a situation between him and Mrs. Tuohy re: something she said in an interview which rubbed him the wrong way, which leaves readers wondering why he didn't just contact his "mom").

When author Michael Lewis was writing the Blind Side book, he interviewed Michael Oher's teachers, coaches, school administrators, social workers, etc. They all described him *exactly* like the film showed him. Barely speaking, looking down at his feet constantly and not responding to direct questions. His Briarcrest teachers all claim he had the reading skills of an elementary school child and he would hand in tests blank. By chance the one teacher realized that he would do better if she read the tests to him, and that's when he began to improve.
In 14 years, not one of these people have ever come forward, claimed that they were misquoted, and backed Michael Oher's criticisms about the way he was portrayed in the movie. So when he protests and says "I wasn't like that!"..... sorry Michael, but apparently these people all agree that back in high school, you most certainly *were* like that. His enormous *ego* can't handle it, but he is the only one who saw things differently.

They are covering this story on different news channels and a lot of the comments online, especially from Yt people, are saying he is being ungrateful and just looking for a handout because his money has run out. They are basically saying that if those people hadn't taken him in, he would be on the streets or in jail, and he owes his success to them. While it is true that they took him in, the fact that they never adopted him, didn't give him a cent from the movie or even ask for his input in the movie, and still have him in in a conservatorship though he is nearly 40 is pretty fishy to me.
