Proponents of two-state solution must 'explain to Israel' how Palestinian state will ensure security
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 21. 05. 2024
- The announcement by Ireland, Spain and Norway on the recognition of a Palestinian state is perceived by Israel as a major blow. Nomi Bar-Yaacov, international negotiator and Senior Research Fellow in the International Law Programme at Chatham House tells FRANCE 24's Mark Owen that the key missing element from their respective speeches in recognition of the Palestinian state is explaining to Israel how the existence of a Palestinian state will make Israel more secure.

Promises were made to Palestinian leaders at the time when Isreal was made a state in 1948. Nothing was followed up. This is long overdue.
The analyst Nomi Bar-Yakoov does not seem to have listened to the statement of the Irish PM. He is saying precisely the things about Hamas and the hostages that she claims are not in the statement.

I consider the establishment of Palestinian rights and statehood as THE solution. Israel has had all the time in the world to come to a resolution but they have repeatedly shown that they are simply not interested. Quite the contrary. Their security is important but it cannot come at the expense of the perpetual oppression of Palestinians. Period. Congratulations to these European countries. Nomi is rather disingenuous if not naive. Does she really think that the war would end if the hostages were returned? If Nomi knows that this is helpful to Israel, why the emphasis on the explanation? Does she really think that the Israelis want to listen to anyone on anything? Pull the other one Nomi.

We are just offering Palestinians the same thing we offered Israel - state recognition. Literally every country on the planet has already either recognises Palestinian statehood, or supports it in principle as part of a two-state solution.

With people like her, there will likely be no peace agreement. If Oct 7 was horrendous, then what happened to all the Palestinians jailed without trial. What about all the Palestinians living in an open air concentration camp. I would like to see Israelis live in such conditions for 3 months. if Israeli public is traumatized, what about the Palestinian public? US and Israel are not interested in two state solution or one state solution unless it is a Jewish state.
So if these countries recognize Palestine, does that mean they also concede that Palestinians living there are no longer refugees, but citizens of their own country and any other Palestinians living outside of Palestine have the right of return to Palestine, not Israel?

I do not agree with the statement that '' the new countries that had recognised the state of Palestine '' have the RESPONSIBILITY to explain to israel, how the process will/should be done ! Israel had enough time to decide, yet it didn't, what kind of statue as citizens the palestinians should have ! They failed so miserably, for the past 45 years, and now frustrated are throwing a tantrum for all the world to see them and solved their situation, simply because they can't accept any condition other than theirs !
Perhaps if Nomi bothered to actually listen to the statement made by the Irish Taoiseach, she would know that the hostages were very much indeed mentioned and it was stated that they need to be released.

For 100 years the Palestinians have been offered a state of their own, a two state solution, accepted by Israel and the rest of the world; and for 100 years the Palestinians have rejected it. What right do any countries have to impose their will on either Israel or Palestine? Western powers drew the lines on the map of the Middle East 106 years ago to suit their own interests. Until the people of the Middle East are allowed to decide their own fates, this conflict will never end.
We Hope that both South Korea and Japan will follow suit to recognized Palestine as Independent and sovereign state
Where is it, who rules it and is it peaceful? In 1947, 2000 and 2008 the palestinians rejected a state. Israel have not yet annexed it, why?
Personally I can't see what Palestinian statehood has got to do with Israel, Palestine has been where it is for centuries. I don't know why the west keep asking the Israelis, the Americans or the British, it has nothing to do with them, it's about Palestine and Palestinians.

What your outlet needs to remember is that the Law Based World Order has not yet been replaced by the "Rules Based World Order".
International Law says that as an illegally occupied place the people of Gaza and Palestine have a right to armed resistance.
The occupiers have duties of care towards the occupied people which is not met by bombing and starving women and children. This is not self defense.
Genocide is not excused because your religious texts say it is. Humanity and civilisation are more important than organised religion.
Okay, now, we have to understand; we are talking about a country -- Israel -- that regularly thumbs its nose at international law. That because it has America under its thumb, treats the rest of the world's expectations with disgust. Why should any country trust a nation's goodwill that keeps still another people's land? This Israeli leadership is trying to ethnically cleanse Gaza! It's obvious what their long term intent is. It's not a two state solution! There is absolutely no reason, for any nation to delay giving the Palestinian nationality what it rightly deserves, recognition of their own state!
Israeli government doesn't have to explain what their "day after plan" entails, but countries that recognize Palestine HAVE to explain to Israel why they did...đ
Fox news and skynews media isn't happy with this
These recognition could jeopardize US settlement expansion in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The nations that will recognize Palestine will entitle them to legal, financial, reconstruction and human rights abilities for statehood, Europe has a powerful legal abilities that Palestinians can access on the world stage, the EU and Arab states will construct a mega Palestinian state as a symbol of world peace.
I remember when Kosovo was forcefully taken out of Yoguslavia without consultation same thing with the creation of Israel why do Palestinians have to secure permission from Israel to have a state?
Make 2 state solution, go back to 1967 borders. Then build walls around the border.
2 state solution with division of territory according to population %
And when Hamas or Islamic Jihad launch rockets can Israel invade and expel them all?
