Doerr Motorsport 12C GT3 sets lap record at the Nurburgring 24 Hours

In the build up to the final Blancpain Endurance Series round of the 2014 season, the Nurburgring 100kms, we look back at the 12C GT3 around the fearsome Nordschleife circuit.
Earlier this year, McLaren GT factory driver Kevin Estre qualified the Doerr Motorsport 12C GT3 on pole position for the Nurburgring 24 Hours. The onboard footage shows the Frenchman's blistering pace throughout the session, setting a record lap time of 8m 10.921s - more than 6 seconds quicker than the previous record, and 2.5s clear of his nearest rival.

Kevin Estre That was the most impressive onboard I've ever seen on the Nordschleife. Commitment at every corner! 180 degrees of oposite lock and you're still fighting the throttle, thats what I call confidence in the car and on its own habilities.
Oh, and as high downforce cars are always highly sprung even on bumpy circuits, they always produce great onboard videos!
Great drive - you've convinced me there is a place for flappy paddles - it makes for an extreme level of commitment!
What were the conditions like? I want to start up iRacing to see where I stand ;)

Greg A P1's lap time is of course just under 7 min but on a 20km lap.
This is Nurburgring 24H it includes the GP circuit the total length is about 25km.
golferchin76 Thank you, I'm familiar with the various configurations, but I'm confused as to your level of certainty that the P1 lapped the Nordschleife under 7 mins. What is your source?

Wow, the entire Nordschleife portion was covered in just 6:28, 30 sec faster than a Porsche 918 ! You mean that even a 525 HP GT3 12C is so much faster than 900 HP road cars? So it's all about the grip.
I wonder what the P1 GTR would do here...
Update : the P1 LM did a 6:42. Damn! That means the GT3 car is still 14 sec faster! This itself ought to show just how insane these GT3 cars are.
This car was tested and developed at the Dunsfold test track i.e. Top Gear Test Track. So, it'll have insane handling.
Also, let's not forget about the aventador sv.
RacerGamer2 This is not the road car. This is a full fledged race car with 525 HP that goes much faster than the fastest road car. It's all about the grip.

sick driving... this car has insane downforce and the best breaking system i've ever seen. His breaking points are way behind the usuall spots i've seen on YT. Sad thing that this vibration-noise persisted for 8:28 min

great lap! however is there a need to turn in multiple times to get the right line for a corner? i understand on exit as the car is pitching around but i can't help but think he would be faster being smoother....
He's trying to get the thing turned in. The Ring is bumpy as hell. The commitment here is outrageous.

Guy took the 493hp intake restricted GT3 race car with a top speed of just around 260km/h, ran the GP circuit for like 1 minute 50 seconds, then spent time transit to the north loop and finished everything at 8m10.921. Fast, but people kept on bringing up MacLaren P1's sub 6:30 minute lap time did on a much shorter track length....
golferchin76 The P1 didn't do a 6 30 at all. Mclaren didn't reveal it but most are sure they didn't beat the 918. As this video shows the GT3 covered it in 6:28 with just 500 HP. Slick tires, ridiculous downforce and a track focussed setup matter for lap times. Top speed is only relevant on the straights

Peeps are forgetting the p1 will run on a different layout compared to these GT cars also the p1 is cable of running in excess of 500kg of downforce just on the rear alone meaning it easily runs GT3 levels of downforce and with 903bhp and pretty much the same weight as the GT3 12C the p1 should be faster around the normal ring layout only thing that would hold it back massively would be the road tyres for lack of grip compared to slicks.

The record time around the endurance layout, which includes the Nordschleife and part of the GP Circuit ;)

anyway the gt3 car is probably faster. Less power, but much more aero and mechanical grip.
Alistair Jackson The old track portion was done in 6:28. That's 30 sec faster than the 918. This is a complete track car.
Lot of comments below seem surprised that the GT3 is so much faster than a hypercar with twice or even thrice the HP, but that's how it works. And if that is fast, you haven't seen DTM. A BMW DTM with a mere 480 HP with a passenger and not at the limit did it in 6:14, and the story is that the qualifying record is a 6:03 !!!

Tempted to test the video with a stopwatch and compare the lap time vs video time.
I was just at the 'Ring a couple weeks ago in a 991 911 GT3 Taxi. That was slower, but still ridiculously fast. This is not sped up.

According to one owner the P1 GTR has been a couple of seconds slower than a GT3 car at most circuits although it monsters them on the straights. Tbe reason is that these are still not full fledged racing cars and they are supposed to be easy enough for average guys and journalists to drive. The GT3 cars have way more downforce and are proper racing beasts.
