  • This is the last Sunday morning in August and after what has been a largely disappointing summer the weather gods really delivered today. We had some close racing and fantastic sailing conditions and a course that really suited the Blaze dinghy
    We make these films just for fun, and we hope that you have enjoyed watching them however we have been asked on a couple of occasions now if we have a Patreon account. We don’t want to do that at this stage as we feel it would turn the channel into a business, and as we said at the beginning, this is all just for fun. However if you would like to support us and feel you could help contribute to the cost of making these films then you can do that via our PayPal account here. A big thank you to everyone that has already done this, its a great help.

    One of your BEST! Thanks! Reminds me of my days of dinghy racing in Kansas (US).

    I like the racing and you do a great job of covering it!

    Excellent job! Great camera work. Nice ode' to Peter Gunn' esque music for a mercifully short stint. Loved the break for a "Gods eye view" of the race, with strategy breakdown. One of your best works Sir. Keep it up.

    Oh the Blaze is so much fun on the Medway on a day like that.

    Thanks for sharing. Your cameras work out great. Nice report and good view on handling all those lines. How much time did the race take? And didnt you get cold?

      I don't recall exactly. I think it was close to 2 hrs in the end as the wind died and there was a strong tide against us, but no, we didn't get cold. For the UK it was a great day to go sailing

    Looks like you need a new spot gasket. That’s if blazes have them

    • @SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily
      @SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily  Před 8 měsíci +2

      They do but because they also have a very shallow deck at that point nothing stops the torrent of water. A traditional boat has a centre board case to control the water spouts. Doesn't slow them up at all though :-)

      @@SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily makes sense. I guess it’s quite similar to my phantom then

    I see water coming up the centreboard well at speed. Can you apply sail repair tape on the edge of the hull slot around the board so that it is pushed aside by the board but seals behind the trailing edge? The drag there looks significant. Cheers from Aus.

      Hi ya. It has a slot gasket its just that the deck is so narrow at that point, and they don't have a centre board case of any size to contain the spray so you cant help but get that torrent of water. Good to hear from you though, do you have many boats along the lines of a Blaze? (hiking single hander with racks or wide wings

    Does the Blaze have a slot gasket? I saw a fountain from the centreboard at times.

      @SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily  Před 9 měsíci +2

      It does but with the blade part up, and travelling at speed, and the very shallow hull at that point you cant stop it getting in

    Looks like a fun boat. What is the best and heaviest crew weights on a Blaze to sail them competitively?

    • @laser4398
      @laser4398 Před 9 měsíci +3

      100kg, it has a big sail so can take the weight. Optimum weight about 85 I'd say, it helps if you are tall. If you are above 100kg try it anyway , it can take it better than many boats.

      I'm only 68kg and can be competitive, as it gets breezier though I struggle to hang onto the heavier guys upwind

      It can be, although its big enough and stable enough that you don't have to move around so much
