I finally played portal today and it is wild that this video was when food theory came out. Matpat just put out his retirement vid and these portal vids have taken me down memory lane.

I propose: Character theory, where you study the mental and physical being of characters to better understand them and their decisions. It would be really nice because it would help us understand why they made the decisions they did and sort of put things into place.
I was also thinking about a psychological topic, analyzing video game/movie characters sounds really interesting because we (usually) get a lot of backstory for them

my second answer: if the metal rod is stiff, it will completely stop the falling portal, keeping it in it's original position.
question D: what will happen if you now close both portals? will it get cut? or will it return to a normal pole?
my answer: the portals have no insides, whatever comes in is going to come out in the other portal. it will snap, leaving the top part as the bottom part, and the bottom part sticked to the top part will be the top part.
it will get cut from both sides
it may also just crumble up
question b answer: as orange moves down pole is pushed out from blue and if the pole is weak it gets squished but if it’s strong it stops the portal
I'm just glad that my gut reactions of "it would accelerate forever, get compressed, and be severed" were correct
in game: would get pushed out of the portal

in game: if the portal moves, it either closes or breaks the game's engine
real world: compresses stuff
And the result is a pole destroying the universe. Terrifying.
I'm very pleased the physics in this video checks out. I got a little nervous at first, but you did great.
My theory:
Say we apply the same logic to Chell, she's in a corridor the same height as her, she places two portals on the ceiling and floor, and proceeds to grab her foot, then she decides to super glue her foot.
If she were to get out of the portals, she would be bent over, as her hand remains on her foot.
Therefore, i assume as the more you weld the pole, the more it bends, and when its fully welded, its bended completely.
What about "Conspiracy Theory?" Exploring different conspiracies and explaining how they gained traction, any truth that may exist in them, and disproving them if possible.
U had the same idea I had. It would be pretty funny to have a channel dedicated to different weird conspiracy theories, and exposing any truths in them

That would not work because so many already did those, so many channels are dedicated to conspiracy theories that their content topics are the same, so Food Theory makes sense as fewer or no channels tackle those stuff...

A while back he made a joke about “comic theory” and it was blue. Could always go with that one.
In that case, I think this works with the whole "Book theory" where he does literature of all sorts. Comics included (think how Film Theory sometimes does TV)
You can basically get away with anything in conic books though. The creators of Rick and morty said they won’t mess with time travel cause it’s gets messy to be able to tie everything together and anything can happen for little to no reason or the equivalent to ending the world.

1) Yes, gravity will make it accelerate downwards.
(It will also start moving around slightly in the other two dimensions and eventually hit the sides, denting it in the process, possibly even shaving off bits off it by the edge of the blue portal)
2) Lowering the yellow portal would first make the pole tilt and eventually either...
a) Jam the mechanism by applying force from the side (if the lowering mechanism is weaker than the pole).
b) Start shaving off the sides of the pole by the edge of the blue portal (if the pole is weaker).
c) Start deforming/flattening the pole.
3) Changing placement of one of the portals should simply cut the rod off and spit it out of the yellow portal at high velocity.
Since the puzzle is based on things the engine can't do (like merging two surfaces that are clearly defined as being a specific distance from each other), the spit-it-back-out-on-one-side mechanic should be disregarded.
Also, the rod is basically a 4-dimensional torus with finite length.

So, for perpetual motion and infinite energy, all you need to do is keep reopening and closing the portals every so often. If you had a machine that after, let's say, every 5 passes an object does through the portal then it closes it and opens a new one and the same on the bottom portal then, you could have infinite energy without the inmediate possibility of a black bole. While very dangerous, still possible.
Watching this 3 years in the future and food theory is verified amazing, so glad you decided to broaden your theory horizons

With the pole I’m pretty sure it will actually stay still because the petals are atomically thin, as it is bending space to connect the room to itself, like a pole dancing pole stays still(some of them as othered are made to spin) because it is solidly connected to both the roof and floor, and the pole in here is solid connected to the roof and floor as it is connected to itself like a circle but instead of it being bent the world is instead being bent around it, also if the pole is affected by gravity like that through the portal then there would be air rushing through the portals at it’s terminal velocity due to the fact that gravity would be pulling it though the blue portal
Watching more I realize the way your saying will make the pole melt due to the heat generated by friction due to the fact that it won’t stop therefore generating a constant friction ergo a constant source of heat

Ok i have a few suggestions for the next theory:
- Book theory ( a channel dedicated to books and comic theory)
- Psychology theory ( a channel explaining why and how human do the things they do)
-Life theory ( a theory channel giving you advice about life like how to study well, how to stay happy, etc)
- Philosophical & politic theory ( looking at philsophy and politics, discussing about what is the right thing to do)
-Sport theory (looking at the maximum physical ability of human and also explaining how to win in sport match)
- Conspiracy theory ( debunking or confirming crazy conspiracy theory like was the moon landing fake? )

But what if you make an infinite waterfall from orange to blue, to power a water wheel for one day, then an infinite waterfall from blue to orange the next day, and keep alternating?
The energy involved in creating and destroying the mass associated with each portal end must ultimately come from the batteries in the portal gun, I guess.
Also, two things occurred to me regarding the falling 'infinite pole'. It will eventually reach terminal velocity because of friction with the air... but that much friction will heat the air, and pole, to what temperature? I imagine the air could become plasma, the pole could melt, and you have a whole mess of other problems then.
And when it gets really fast, relativity will start to say some funny things. Relative to the portals, which are stationary, a fast-moving pole will get shorter. A shorter pole forced to occupy a longer space will be stretched. Relative to the pole at terminal velocity - travelling at a constant speed, this is just as valid a frame of reference - the portal ends will appear closer, and the pole will be compressed to fit in the space it occupies.

This was actually only seen if the portals were spatially separated.
What they don't seem to be, however, were they not functioning as a wormhole in the sun. If they did not have the same position in space, i.e. a space exists between them, the player also had to cross it, which is not the case in the game.
The two ends are spatially in the same position. It's more like a tire where the two sides are two different colors.
Because the two portals are next to each other, the negative mass and the positive mass balance each other out. The portal remains stable. No matter how much mass goes through or not.

after 2 years of aging and picking up this sweet sweet game again, i realized something...
on question b it is theorized to get compressed, which can also happen, but what I've noticed is that if you move a portal by moving the surface its, well attached to, it will disappear without coming back, which deactivates the portal that was not moved and the other portal by making it disappear
essentially both portals just disappear and you get a rod that's sliced on both ends

The game kind of compensates for the mass addition and subtraction. If you put a cube into a portal on the floor so it comes out a portal on the ceiling, the cube moves ever so slightly until it hits the edge of the portal and bounces out. So the portal prevents an overload of mass by taking into consideration the initial force used to insert the cube into the portal.
the cube moving slightly and then hitting the portal and bouncing out is literally just because the portals arent perfectly placed. if the portals were in the absolute perfect place the cube would fall forever with no negative affects whatsoever

6:41, I actually speculate it would NOT fall straight down but slowly start falling to one side while it is falling down, eventually it would hit the portal edge and bounce towards the other edge instead, still falling down, eventually it would pick up enough momentum while falling that it's bounces would become rather frequent, enough to shave away at it eventually breaking it in half.
Assuming you tried to move the portals closer together while it was falling I speculate the forces of it pressing against itself would break it faster, especially as it would not be dead straight so it would have somewhere to break towards (which a straight pole can do more easily than a curved pole I might add... assuming the bend was against the curve that is).
Finally assuming that you managed to move the portal before it broke while it was being pressed down I speculate that it would simply be cut by the portal closing and the pole would just shoot out like a dart before crashing into the wall or just falling onto the ground.
Imagine how different portal would be if you could shoot portals through portals

One of the laws in portal is that portals can’t be moved. There is only one location in the games that this doesn’t not happen, in which the game devs needed to make a completely separate script to make it happen. They also said that they knew that it was against the continuity but hoped that the cool scene would cover this problem.

Book theories could be really time consuming, though. What Mat does is already a lot of work and takes a lot of time, but if he had to read a bunch of books in order to theorize about them it would take up a lot. Spending a few hours on a game or a movie is only a few hours, but a book can take a lot longer. Besides, he's already been dragged into reading the FNAF novels

It would weigh the same, because as MatPat says in this video, there isn't infinite pole, it's the same amount of pole, it's just seeing the pole from infinite perspective, so it would weigh the same.
