I bought a Sony STR-7065 back in the '70s, loved it for decades. No one who isn't around my age can appreciate what FM radio was like in SoCal back in the early '70s. FM was mostly a vast wasteland of empty air with a few stations clustered at either end of the dial but those stations were legendary for playing full LPs, new ones just hitting the shelves too. No annoying commercials every few minutes, just laid back music and sometimes interviews with musicians/bands. The interviews were laid back too.

Unbelievable sound - strongest kicking bass you've ever heard due to their patented HDAMs, organic midrange like their legendary old receivers, clear treble.

I have been partial to belt drive tables - I have had a Linn Axis with a Basik Plus tone arm. To go with the turntable, I have used an Audible Illusions Modulus 2C preamp; and now I use an AkitikA PR-102 preamp. The former is tube and the latter is solid state and their phono sections are excellent.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, I have used streaming - and the DAC is *key* - started with Schiit Bifrost 2 and then an Ares II - and then Geshelli Labs. J2 AKM4493, then J2S, then J2S 4499 - and I am keeping my Dayzee! No need to move on from this - LPS and Sparkos 2590, and I am home!
AkitikA GT-104 is the best amp I have heard.

As a teenager in the late 70’s I had a Saturday job in a famous UK HiFi chain. One week I was tasked with setting up a new product from Technics… It was the forerunner of the famous SL-1200. It was called the SL-110. A direct drive (first on the market I think) it came without an arm but a removable arm board allowed for almost any arm of the day to be fitted, in this case I fitted an SME 3009 with sure V15 cartridge. It was stunning! Both visually and sonically. Being the first model of its type it was seriously over engineered with a superb bearing. I fell in love, but it was way out of my meagre pays league. That moment of revelation stuck with me for years, until finally some 25 years later I stumbled across someone selling one locally for what I thought was a bargain price. It had a Rega RB-300 arm fitted with a Nagaoka MP-200 cartridge. It has been my pride and joy ever since…

Agree that the Marantz 2215B is a special receiver. I don't have the same nostalgic connection, but I managed to snag one at an estate sale about a year ago for a pretty good price. And it was from the original owner, so it was all original and nobody has been messing around inside it. It's a beautiful example of peak 70's hi-fi.

Meadowlark Kestrel speakers. Had them for about 22years now. Beautifully hand built in America time and phase coherent, transmission line speakers. Even to this day I have no want for anything else. They are paired up with my Antique Sound Labs AQ 1001DT stereo tube amp. Also from over 20 years ago. Although the Kestrels love the tubes they are more than happy with all the other sources. Part of 4.1 theatre system... Topping Topping E70 Velvet for a simple DVD player for CD enjoyment. It all come back to those amazing Kestrels. I feel sorry for people that perpetually change speakers since they just haven't found the ones for them.

Good morning, I am Dutch, did somebody say we couldn't argue with something... Here we go...
Receivers av or otherwise are always inferior to seperates... But those are more expensive? Nop. Bought a Marantz 7702 for 400€, just for Atmos duty. Did you ever notice that if you want an avr with enough channels you get more powerful amplification? I dislike that, my speakers don't want that much or that sort of power. And why would you want to power amplifier modules that don't get used?

Problem became what am I going to do with them. So that is why I bought a third pair and the Atmos processor.. I am spending my way out of it. Plus the wife said she wants to do movie evenings . So now it's all her fault 😈😇😎

I love my Cornwalls but the only reason I could afford them was finding a pair in an estate sale that needed rebuilding. Lately, I've been looking at the Technics 1200 line with curious eyes. I have to thin the TT herd first. I run a Marantz 2330 which sounds great but getting it fixed isn't easy and it weighs 60 pounds. Ironically, those McIntosh receivers now cost less per watt than the Marantz. I'm currently building a set of OJAS inspired "Artbook" clones only with different drivers and a set of Onken design speakers because someone sent the wrong drivers in an auction but didn't want to pay to have them sent back.

Being a individual that was a dealer in the old days, starting in 1968, and personally knowing the old man, Klipsch is just a empty shell of what they were before Fred took over from Paul. Also, I would not consider any of the stuff you've discussed "audiophile" more mid fi in my opinion, and thats what all this is, simply opinion. And BTW, I used to own a Pair of custom made teakwood Belle Klipsch that Paul personally selected the Veneers for, The Belle Klipsch was named after his wife. I've upgraded from those quite a bit... but I only have one item in my system made after 1995, most new stuff, again in my opinion, is junk, unless you pay absolutely absurd amounts of money. Also, the big consolidations that happened in the industry just crushed any innovation, Samsung owning Harmon, what a effing joke. Sorry, I don't want to be a bomb thrower, but the HiFi industry has utterly collapsed from what it was prior to 1995.

I got an EAR 834 valve phono stage clone from Ali express. Great sound Ran it for 4 years changed the valves out etc. before upgrading to a Hagerman trumpet MC.
I've also had Douk audio and FX audio DACs around the £100 mark that sounded excellent.
I have a BRZHIFI X10 amp around £85 that sounds as good as an Arcam a39
My current DAC is a xiang sheng DA- O5B II with a valve output
My current preamp is a Doge 8 clarity ( admittedly this is not affordable "chi fi" but the sound is gorgeous)
      🎸🎧🎵

Gold tonearm??? Now I love my Technics tables (4 vintage linear trackers from the 80s in the house right now) but I draw the line at a gold tonearm. Silver, check, Black, check. Gold?? Noooooooooo.
Technics, and you, Bob, should be ashamed. Just looking at it makes me feel dirty inside, much like the last time I went to Trump Turnberry (I talk here about the bling, not the politics...)

That technics amp with that big, old-school thick metal face, and those analog VU meters, all brought to us by the United States of analog channel… And… It’s class D. What a massive letdown.👎🏼

You should have more than 11k followers. I too love my Forte IVs. I’m running them with a handmade in the USA Frenzel 4472 tube amp, amazing…I like you. Not in a gay way (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

I love my Carver AV 705X 5 channel power amplifier. Quiet as a church mouse, runs cool even after hours of high level listening ( 95+ dB) had mine for 21years already purchased used ($450) Ebay
